urza4315 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 You've seen this, whenever you are talking to one of the Daedric Princes (or that big ball of light under the College of Winterhold) you can't skip the conversation, you just have to sit there and wait for them to finish. The problem is even worse because so many of them have a tendency to speak veeeeery sloooooowly. Is there a reason why this is? Is it a technical restriction on Skyrim's part or is it by design?
Brandy1123 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 For same reason you are unable to skip the intro 10 minutes of rediculous scripted monotony. It counts towards the "Hours" of game play companies can boast about. I am not saying here that on the first few runs through it is not entertaining or does not fit in or give you really good history/storyline/quest info. I am just implying that it should not be forced on the player to have to sit through it time and again if the player so wishes. The game was written for a game console. they are limited on what they can do. The ported thing we call a PC version has the same limitations. It never was written for PC users and it never was the intent to give the PC community a product of todays technology or g aming options. (menu's, input devices, mouse, AA/rendering.. on and on) Yes I find a lot of things "face-palmish" and yes the game is a really good game. It could have been a Great game.
Moraevik Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Because the developers wanted to force you to experience the awesome voice-acting, maybe? It's not just the Daedra. There are quite a few situations in which the game forces you to listen to someone talk and there's no way to escape out of it. I honestly don't know why the devs did this, and can think of no reason to do it, except that some of those monologs are necessary to convey vital information to the player. In the case of the Daedra, most of us who have played the game several times probably just go to the kitchen for coffee and donuts, rather than sit and listen to something we probably already know by heart.

What does any of the above have to do with the question? You're not seriously suggesting that the reason you can't skip dialogues is because the game was designed for consoles? Sounds like just another excuse to get in a personal rant.
Goliatron Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Obviously no one here knows why they don't allow the stupidest, slowest dialogue in the game to be interrupted. I don't either. The answer given in this post is silly. While the dialogue seems like eternity to the player, it is really only a few minutes and is not going to make a tiny difference the hours played. Also, there is simply no legit reason that a game written for a console cannot allow the dialogue to be interrupted. That's ridiculous. The game was written on PCs, folks. Xbox is an x86 platform... Thus Xbox is essentially a PC (just like all Macs these days). The interface may have been tailored to game controllers, but the game was written on a PC.I really wish it could be changed, but the difference is the Daedric rants use an entirely different system than dialog with an NPC, and there seems to be no way change it to allow the user to skip through it. So we're stuck with the dumbest dialog in the game being uninterruptible, it would seem. Really poor choice by Bethesda.

EnaiSiaion Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Because when a Daedric Prince speaks, MORTALS LISTEN. :)

I get sick of this "PC Master Race" B.S. all the millennials spout. It's just immaturity and insecurity at it's worst. It's also ignorant as well. As to the original question the OP asked... I think the technical reason may be due to the files for Daedric characters being large files versus smaller ones normal NPCs use. So, the larger Daedric monologues have to play all the way through whereas normal NPC files are much smaller (shorter), so you can cut it off without any load limitations, perhaps?
Lachdonin Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I get sick of this "PC Master Race" B.S. all the millennials spout. It's just immaturity and insecurity at it's worst. It's also ignorant as well. If by 'ignorant' you mean lacking in information... well, you'd be wrong. PCs are more versatile, typically more powerful, and far more customizable than consoles could ever hope to be. In every technical sense, PCs are superior. If by 'ignorant' you actually mean arrogant and self important... Than yes, most of the "because it was made for Consoles" rants are that. Arrogant. Not ignorant. As for why... It may also have to do with the fact that the Daedra are not interactive characters like NPC's, this making it so you cannot reinitialise dialogue in case you miss something. They are more like the short cinematic scenes, like the execution at the beginning, or when you get shot with that poisoned arrow.
Urtel Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 If i am correct, in Oblivion it was pretty much the same. You was stuck in front of statue, listening to what they say. I just consider it as if i cant avoid their speech, because i can hear it in my head.
