Naktis
Hello and welcome to the Discussion Thread for The Age of the Dragon. Here you can post your character sheets and pictures/drawings and discuss the RP and other OOC things. Please no OOC posts in the roleplay itself! The Age of the Dragon is a Dragon Age-based roleplay. You may know this from BioWare's roleplaying games Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II and from the novels like Dragon Age: Asunder, Dragon Age: The Calling and Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne. The events of The Age of the Dragon takes place in the middle of the war between Mages and Templars, after the events of Dragon Age II To help people understand what's happening in Thedas now and what happened during the Fifth Blight and Hawke's rise in power, Alaylyne and I had decided to make the Story Summary of the events: Dragon Age: Origins - Alistair is the King of Ferelden, mages in the Ferelden Circle of Magi were saved, the werewolf curse cured, Bhelen is the king in Orzammar, Anvil of the Void destroyed, Loghain killed in the Landsmeet, Andraste's ashes preserved, Morrigan's ritual preformed, the Warden helped to fight off the undead in Redcliffe, elves in the Alienage freed from the Tevinter slavers. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening - every possible recruit been recruited into the Grey Wardens, Vigil's Keep was fully upgraded, the Architect slain, Amaranthine saved. Dragon Age 2 - Hawke sided with the mages, Carver became the Grey Warden, Anders spared, Danarius killed, Hawke dueled the Arishok and Isabela came back with the Qunari book. Dragon Age 2: Legacy - Corypheus dead, Hawke sided with Larius. Here are some guidelines originally made by Lisnpuppy to help you improve your roleplaying experience. OK this is a copy/paste of some guidelines I made up in a MMO I was doing. Not all applies to forum RP but I thought this could help us and for the future. These are not written in stone and can be discussed. Also the relationship RP stuff is really more MMO for long term RP (I have been RPing with some people for 2-3 years now.) Anyway if you have questions let me know. 1) Have fun. If you are doing something, . If you are finding yourself always irritated or unhappy...then why are you here. Figure out the issue (and you know, it MAY just be you *grin*) or go do something else. 2) Never, ever forget the line between RP In Character and Out of Character and don't cross it. It is easy..especially when you have particularly intense RP to take things personally. Don't....99% of the time it isn't all about you. Even in times when perhaps (say guildies) you are Rping with someone you do not care for OOC....don't try to put over every single roleplay they engage with you...that its personal. Chances are very good it isn't. So take a time out, step out of the RP or communicate your issues OOC. 3) Start with a well made character. Have a decent background and personality to make your RP more fun and easier. Your character doesn't have to be set in stone. But having a solidly made character is important or your RP may peeter out. Have your character have likes/dislikes, goals, dreams, an arch-enemy....this will help you flesh them out even more and bring them to life. 4) Relationship RP should be the ICING not the CAKE! I am sure we all have (or will) have our characters involved in an IC relationship. However...if you make the mistake of building all your RP around this person then you won't have anything you can do with anyone else or when your RP partner is not online. Make it a side-quest if you will...not the main one. 5) You have to give a little to get a little. We all have RP storylines in which we want others to engage. That is what makes it fun, right? But if you find a friend knee-deep in a RP of their own..don't come in and hijack the RP for yourself...or refuse to participate because its not all about YOU. Have fun and throw your lot in with them! Trust me...when your time comes around...people will remember that you play well with others. Otherwise...be willing to face a lot of folks disappearing when you have something you wish to do. 6) Don't be a MaryJane! I have to admit in the games I play I am not a lore-nerd....so I don't always get it right. But don't decide that you are going to be a half-dragon or the long-lost illegitimate son of the King of Whoville. It doesn't work, it probably isn't in the lore anywhere...and it will lead only to your RP downfall. Eventually your “special” character will begin to dominate everyone else and their RP. No one will want to play with you...so make your character special in other ways. 7) No godmoding!! Remember..you only control YOUR character and not others. When you RP try not to take over the actions of other Rpers. For example: Jon casts a frostbolt at Matt knocking him back into the wall and breaking his arms. Instead try: Jon cast a frostbolt hoping to hit Matt and knocking him out of the way. This allows the other player to take action. You can have decided before hand how this will go out. You can roll to see what actions happen or how bad an injury is (I am sure there will be others writing about RP fighting and the like somewhere else *hinthint*. Just remember...if you don't leave a way for the other person to respond...it isn't RP and you will find yourself bored quickly. Soap Opera-ing. Many of us have wanted to play are character as crazy, a totally badass or having an illness or amnesia. That can all be valid and fun stories. The doom is in taking it too far or too long. These kind of stories ultimately leave little RP options for those around you. Always have movement and a goal in your RP...otherwise it goes nowhere. 9) Be willing to RP with anyone, anytime. Just because you are in a guild or Rping with a friend doesn't mean you can't include others. Walk-Up RP can lead to great things...or simply pass the time for a bit. If others don't RP EXACTLY like you...no sweat. Perhaps they are new and need some gentle guidance. So be open to everything! 10) Communication is the key. Always establish your RP boundaries when you are Rping with someone long-term. If you don't like swearing...or a particular kind of violence...or if you will take anything coming down the pike! Let others know. It avoids awkward and unpleasant conversations later. And a few more rules, specific to this RP. 11) To avoid any unpleasantries and arguments as well as being fair to everyone, roleplaying as the Hero of Ferelden and/or Champion of Kirkwall is not allowed. 12) Roleplaying as characters from the game and novels is allowed as long as the roleplayer has the basic knowledge about the character and that his or her presence makes sense. If you're unsure then please ask! 13) Being a Grey Warden is allowed, but not everyone will be able to be one. Grey Wardens are not swarming with recruits after all. 14) Rulers of the cities or anyone else who has duties that takes up most of their time like Knight-Commanders and Grand Clerics are not allowed. It doesn't make sense if the character of such important positions are at the same time adventurers. 15) Teleportation isn't allowed. It can get too OP quickly and there's no such thing in the world of Dragon Age. 16) No strong sexual content, please. It's all fine and good if your character is in a relationship but please keep the graphic stuff behind the closed doors. For those who are interested in joining but have no knowledge about DA universe, please click the spoiler tag. Thedas - the only known continent of Dragon Age universe. Link Races: humans, elves, dwarves, Kossith. Grey Wardens, Darkspawn and the Blight. Chantry, Templar Order and Mages. The Qun, Maker and Elven pantheon. Classes: there are three classes available in the Dragon Age games: warriors, rogues and mages. Each class in Origins had four unlockable specializations, Awakening (expansion of Dragon Age: Origins) added two more specializations for each class. Dragon Age II introduced a brand new specialization for mages. Warrior: Berseker, Templar, Champion, Reaver, Spirit Warrior, and Guardian. Rogue: Assassin, Bard, Duelist, Ranger, Legionnaire Scout and Shadow. Mage: Arcane Warrior, Blood Mage, Shapeshifter, Spirit Healer, Battlemage and Force Mage. Note: I skipped the Keeper specialization for mages because despite how it was in the game only the Dalish elves have Keepers and the Keepers stays with their clan as they are the leaders of the clan. Note 2: Dwarves cannot be mages. Note 3: In Dragon Age 2 some specializations are restricted to certain characters, like Swashbuckler to Isabela, Vengeance to Anders, Infiltrator to Tallis. These guidelines won't be enforced strictly unless the serious problem will raise its ugly head. Alaylyne and I are co-founders of this RP, thus we both share the right to enforce the rules if necessary. Welcome to The Age of the Dragon and have fun! When you're ready head to the RP itself, here. Edited September 1, 2012 by Naktis
Naktis
Here's an example of a character sheet. Name: Race: Gender: Age: Class: Occupation: (if a character isn't a Grey Warden, Templar, Chantry priest, Circle mage, etc. simple write none) Place of Origin: Appearance: Armor/Clothing: Weapon: Personality: History: Edited August 27, 2012 by Naktis
Alaylyne
I am so making a mage because I am addictive to spell-casters and being a mage in a mage-templar war ought to be beyond interesting  Name: Alalia Talelwa Race: Elf Gender: Female Age: 27 Class: Mage/Shapeshifter Occupation: Apostate Specialization: none Place of Origin: Kirkwall Alienage Appearance: Alalia stands 5'5" (165 cm) tall, her most eye-catching feature being her long ginger hair, who oppose narrow dark blue eyes. She looks at least few years older than she really is because she doesn't really care about her appearance, more concerned about her safety and survival. However, she cannot, by any standard, be called unattractive, even though she has very little self-confidence and tries to hide her face and ears most of the time. As any elf, Alalia has a pettite body and is physically weak, which she makes up with strong willpower and occasional cunningness. Other than her wavy ginger hair and a beauty mark below her right corner of upper lip, Alalia could be easily confused with almost every other elf. Armor/Clothing:This elf can be most often found wearing simple, commoner clothes, making her look like any other elf. She often wears a simple cape with a hood. Weapon: wooden staff and a dagger she keeps on her belt. Personality: Alalia, as her name states, is not talkative. The mage is as passive as it gets, preferring to stay in the background and speak only when she decides to. By no means is she attention-grabbing, occasionally offering her advice to friends once she feels comfortable enough around them. Neutral by nature, Alalia will not help someone if it includes endangering herself, staying alive being her top priority. History: Alalia was born in Kirkwall Alienage and lived there for a couple of years with her mother who refused to join Alalia's father. She never knew much about her father, only that he was a Dalish and that she wasn't with him because her mother didn't want to "live like a savage, eating raw rabbits for dinner". Life in Alienage never really attracted Alalia and she eventually grew curious of the "free elves", as some of the other elves from the alienage called them, dreaming of a day her father would take her away from the rude shemlen city. The day came - but not the way Alalia imagined it. Her talent for magic showed when she was 6, worrying her mother to death and causing her to bring a rash decision of sending her to Alalia's father. Some of the local thugs smuggled the young mage - for a price, of course - out of Kirkwall and instead of bringing her to the Dalish, left her in the wilds. Fortunately for the little girl, Dalish did found her after a few days, scared and starving out in the cold. It was not the same clan Alalia's father was from - for they have gone far from the wilds surrounding Kirkwall -, but she was happy nevertheless. Growing up as a Dalish, she learned how to change her shape into a wolf, a bear, a hawk, and to control her magic. Alalia later left the Dalish to visit her mother, finding Kirwall in ruins, her mother missing and herself in a middle of a war between the Templars and her own kind. I have no idea who this woman is ._. but she looks exactly the way I had imagined Alaila x3http://photos.posh24.com/p/1238131/l/style_tips/summer_style_tips_sizzle_as_a_red.jpg Edited October 11, 2012 by Alaylyne
Naktis
Ooh! What an awesome sheet! Mages are awesome! Here's mine. Name: Illadriel Race: Dalish Elf Gender: Female Age: 26 Class: Rogue/Duelist Occupation: Grey Warden Place of Origin: The Brecilian Forest Appearance: Illadriel stands at 5'4 tall, her eyes are of dark brown color, she always wears her shoulder length black hair in the same hairstyle. The Vallaslin on her face represents Elgar'nan, the God of Vengeance. Armor/Clothing: No one had ever saw her wearing clothing. She is always wearing her dark colored scout armor with grey griffons embroided on it. Weapon: Two daggers with Grey Wardens insignia on them. Personality: Illadriel is quiet but kind-hearted and treats everyone equally even if some do not treat her the same way, she is responsible and loyal but quickly angered and easily offended. The life amongst the Dalish made her strong and determined. From time to time Illadriel adds elven words as she speaks showing that no matter how some people view the Dalish elves she is proud to be one. History: Born as one of the wandering Dalish elves, Illadriel lived most of her life with her clan, constantly moving from one place to another. Unlike some other Dalish, she was always fascinated by the old tales and news from the outside world. The ones she loved the most were about the Grey Wardens and their battles against the Darkspawn. One day, when Illadriel was hunting in the woods she came across human who was battling two Wild sylvan beings and because she just couldn't stand there and watch she helped the human to fight the possessed trees. After the battle she found out that the human was a Commander of the Grey who was traveling across Thedas looking for new recruits because The Hero of Ferelden showed everyone that Grey Wardens are needed, Blight or no. The Commander was so impressed with her fighting that he offered her to join the Wardens, Illadriel gladly accepted. After she survived the Joining, the newly recruited Dalish Grey Warden spent most of the time in the Anderfels, learning many new things about the organization as well as improving her skills in battle. When the news of the destruction of the Chantry in Kirkwall reached her, she set off to the Free Marches. Edit: Here's the screenshot of Illadriel. :dance:http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/images/1943694-1337786275.jpg Edited August 31, 2012 by Naktis

Naktis
Andraste's knicker-weasels! :wallbash: I'm such a plank! Instead of editing my first post with the character sheet I quoted it! :wallbash: Anyway, since my idea failed epically, here's the sheet of my mage man. Name: Thomas a.k.a Chuckles Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 30 Class: Mage/Force Mage Occupation: Apostate Place of Origin: Nevarra/Starkhaven Appearance: Thomas is a rather tall and slim man. His white hair and silver eyes are his most unusual feature. Armor/Clothing: He always wears white or grey clothing. Weapon: Silver colored dragonbone staff and a dagger strapped to his belt which looks like an accessory rather than a weapon. Personality: Thomas is a good-natured and simple man, though his real self he hides with the mask of humor and sarcasm. History: Thomas was born to an apostate mother and a humble merchant father. When Thomas was five years old he started showing his talent of magic. His mother, Alessa who grew up in the Circle wanted her son to grow up free, thus the family left for Ferelden but they never reached their destination as the Templars tracked down Thomas' mother with her phylactery and killed her. The boy with his father returned to Nevarra. The rest of his childhood and teenage years Thomas spent reading all kinds of books and secretly practicing his magic, alone because his father loved him dearly but at the same time feared him because of the 'curse' that his son and his late wife possessed and the rest of the children harassed him because of his unusual hair and eyes colors. At the age of twenty two he left his father's home and went to Starkhaven and lived there for four years, working in the local tavern. He went to Kirkwall after hearing stories about how a Fereldan refugee made a good life and a fortune in Kirkwall. After the destruction of the Chantry, Thomas still remained in Kirkwall and helped the mages escape the wrath of the Templars. Here's the screenshot of Thomas.http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/images/1943694-1340395718.jpg @Flipout6, yay! We'd be happy to have you! Edited August 27, 2012 by Naktis

Naktis
Oooooohhhhhhhhh... so you guys made it after all then? I'm definitely joining... just give me time to think up a character :thumbsup:Yup! We finally did it! Good to have you with us, dear! The specialization thing in the character sheet is now changed into the occupation. I'm not sure if it still is fitting but I think it sounds much better than specialization. If anyone knows of a more fitting word, feel free to post it here, so I could change it. I apologize for the inconvenience.
mythicdawnmaster
 This is going to be fun XD Question, just so i can really narrow down my character to a few choices: Are we allowed to be demons? Desire demons in particular?
Alaylyne
 This is going to be fun XD Question, just so i can really narrow down my character to a few choices: Are we allowed to be demons? Desire demons in particular? You could be a demon only in the Fade (a place where all people - except dwarves - go when they dream - only mages are fully aware there) because to be in the "real" world, you'd need a body, that is, you'd have to become an abomination (most often mages fall prey to demons because of their powers). Also, you'd most likely be immediately slain by anyone who finds out about your true nature. If it's okay with Naktis, I think we could allow one abomination like Kitty, who was only about living and experiencing the world of mortals, not killing and bringing chaos. Of course, you could have short-term OC abominations who would later be slain. There sure are supposed to be a lot of them, since mages are fighting templars and turning to blood magic, thus often getting possessed. Correct me if I'm wrong, Naktis.
