I have invested 466 hours into Skyrim.

I've got that feeling with much less hours, I've started countless characters, just to find myself bored right after killing the 1st dragon, in Oblivion, well, if I could update it's tech into Skyrim's, I would still be playing it forever, Skyrim is good, but not TES Good...

I recently went back and played Oblivion and Fallout 3 (and a bit of New Vegas).

I love the Shivering Isles. It's actually better than people describe it. You just have to play it to believe it, and I had forgotten how awesome it was (last played it back in 2009). The thing about Oblivion is that nausea-inducing 3rd person camera. What the F were they thinking with all that smooth panning and tilting? I mean, seriously. I have a rock solid constitution about things like that and even I was near to vomiting after a mere two or three hours in that mode.

And speaking of playing for an extended period of time, I could actually play a single session for three or four hours in Oblivion. In Fallout 3? LOL No freaking way. I forgot how appallingly often Fallout 3 and FNV crash. I had forgotten why I had gotten in the habit of saving every 30 seconds (or more often). Ugh. Nothing kills a game faster than than crash crash crash crash crash crash... And this is AFTER I had cleaned up my ini files and made everything relatively stable.

I'm seriously tempted to try Morrowind, but I'm a little worried I'd get lost in it.

I started dabbling back into FONV, on a high-level save, a while back and was quite enjoying it. But I started a new char in FO3 the other day and "BLAMMO" (as that crazy FO3 preacher would say) I'm hooked all over again.

@GSManners: have you implemented the 4GB enabler - I think it's called "Large Address Aware" something or other - and FO3 Stutter Remover? Those may help with your FO3 stability if you haven't installed them already. (But actually, even with those things, FO3 has always been the least stable for me out of FO3, FONV and Skyrim. Though it's not too bad with those 2 mods installed.)

Believe me. I tried everything humanly possible to get FO3 working more smoothly. I even got a new mobo and a new video card. Nothing works. It's the game, not me. LOL

In any case, Skyrim plays pretty reasonably well on this exact same system, so I think the culprit is obvious. Maybe in a few years, OpenMW will get to the point where someone could work in Oblivion and then maybe FO3/FNV support. That's something to look forward to.

I'm not saying it's not the game, but that is in your particular case and certainly not a flaw inherent to the game itself. I've been playing FO3 since the day it came out all the way to now (just started another playthrough a day ago infact) and have never gotten a crash unless I tabbed over abruptly to my home screen for whatever reason. I'm not even using a good computer, a fairly old one in fact (and even at the time when it was brand new it wasn't considered "good").

Weird. I can't remember a single playthrough that didn't crash on me. Modded: crash. No mods: crash. Tweaks: crash. No tweaks: crash. Old drivers: crash. New drivers: crash. Old Windows: crash. Freshly-installed Windows: crash. To be fair, it isn't a predictable crash. It varies between ten minutes and an hour or so after I start, but it is inevitable.

Hmm. Do you have the GOTY edition? Also how full is your data? I've experienced lag related issues myself and frame rate issues when my driver was nearly full. What graphics setting do you play on btw? I know these are the basics people usually know, but it's worth mentioning nonetheless.

There are no (good) attribute mods, (good) acrobatic, degradation, or no spell creation mods proper.

Not to mention too many mods=Skyrim lags, regardless of system or tweaks.

Although yes, there are a lot of good gameplay mods that add diversity, specifically RP diversity like TC wants.

You mistake me. Not playing with mods. Making mods. The mods you say are missing, that might be your niche.

I currently have GotY edition, yes. I've tried every setting (vanilla and tweak, as I mentioned) between Low and Medium. Maybe I'm just lucky this way.
