Akrid
Why cant peoples money just be thier money? Why does a certain % always have to be taken away as if you didnt work for it. The whole concept of income tax sounds stupid to me, why not also tax people for how much air they breath? You can tax cancer causeing tobacco, but you cant tax weed cause anyone can grow it and process it. You can tax beer but you cant tax moonshine, cause anyone can make moonshine. So if you cant tax it its illeagal, Funny, is it this way everywhere in the world or just where I live?
Abramul
How about this, then: T=SQRT(I-E)*PWhere:T=Tax, in currency unitsI=Income, ""E=Exemption, ""P=Percentage, in % Exemption and percentage would be the same for everyone, although could change from year to year. Anyone with a basic calculator could come up with their tax. I'm sure all the accountants could find new jobs.

How will we pay for our roads, how will be pay for our educations, how will we pay for our healthcare, how will we pay for our security, how will we pay for our clean streets, how will we pay for our government? There's so much people take for granted. The reason why taxes become so high is because countries become depend on services that they may not need -- things like the smoking division in the NHS. We don't need it, but for some reason the country feels a need to pay billions of pounds each year to try and save the pricks who smoke too much and get cancer and then expect healthcare, knowing full well what they were doing to their body. Akrid
I guess taxes have been around sinse the begging of civiliazation :cry2: I just wish the world where diffrent. What if thier where independent colonys that where self suffient(sp?) and they got nothing from the goverment and gave nothing back. maybee thier is indian reservations, but you have to be a at least 50% native american, so its not a option for anyone. I could do without cars and roads and everything else and live out in the woods, provided I had the know how. Maybe the answer is a better system of desiding what to do with tax money, but I still feel that the world is set up to drain you and make life more difficult than nessesary. Maybe a cut off point could be introduced now. And it could be extended to those who ignore warnings on alcohol consumption and diet. Maximum 28 units a week guys (21 for women). NO MORE PIZZA! Not to mention the daily exercise! It does raise some questions though. Whilst smoking certainly can lead to lung cancer and other diseases it is not the only cause. There is also the problem of passive smoking. Perhaps a pollution tax of £2 per inhalation would work. You'd fit a small attachment to the back of a person's throat and it would act like a black box recorder. If you needed hospital tratement for anything, they'd check the box and charge in advance for the treatment. E.g. you breathed in 2000 carcinogenic breaths, ate four thousand Big Macs with extra cheese and took 30,000 swallows of alcohol, that will be....:laugh2: Not serious of course. I agree with your principle but I'm not sure I can yet see how to put it equitably into practice!
Mojlnir
I think the healt care system, in any country, could be funded in part by luxury taxes on unhealthy items. I say tax the hell out of cigarettes, booze and fatty foods. Throw in candy, soda pop, and snack foods as well. A person would have to be brain dead not to have heard of the nasty health risks things in this category cause. I don't think I should have to pay for some guy who ate at McDonald's 6 times a week and ended up with heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. It's his damn problem and he can figure out how to pay for it. And he can't sue the burger joint either, they don't hide what they're pushing and again, you'd have to be an idiot to think french fries are health carbs. The same thing holds true for people who drive drunk or without insurance. Again, people like me are paying for a bunch of asswipes to go out illegally and crash into something. I don't have a magic fix all solution, but I do know the system "as is" is broken.
