Mookeylama
i could evn go 690 but think that's not worth the price ratio at the moment. i know i wanna use lots of texture mods so i already bought an EVGA superclocked 4gb 670, but now i'm reading that after the latest 12.7 drivers, the 7970 3gb might do a better job plus it has a higher memory bus (whatever that is lol). may go dual cards in the future, but i hear a single card works best for skyrim. so what's your opinion on the best card for this game? thanks
Rennn
Single cards do work best for Skyrim. I'm not sure how the cards you listed compare, but a single card is probably the way to go for Skyrim.

Playing on ultra with shadows on High and FXAA on I have accomplished this.

slzy
cpu is far more important tbh. an i5 or better would really serve you well. skyrim its designed for xbox and is basically just the same engine FO had. I have a 560 myself and no issues, even with the texture packs. edit: I have done some more testing and there is a problem with the 2k texture pack and markarth, the size of those stone textures are just ridiculous tho. its more this than the hardware being stretched. SFBryan18
It all depends on which gets pushed to it's limit first... I, like slzy, have a 560m, and my 2.2 ghz i7 crashes before I reach my 3gb vram limit. I have no need to worry about ram either, because I have 12gb, and the game won't use more than 4gb anyways. But, if my vram was low, and my ghz were higher, then vram would be the issue. I know it's my processor because I did several tests with ugrids on 7 and always crashed as I reached... coincidentally, Markarth. Since all other areas were loading normally, my only conclsion was that the CPU was unable to load the city fast enough and it crashed everytime. Mookeylama
so you think i'll be fine w/ a i7 3770k (3.6ghz) and a 4gb gtx 670 card? i'm gonna use LOTS of texture mods and i play on a 1080p hdtv
SFBryan18
That sounds like more than enough. Just keep in mind that you could have unlimited memory and speed, and Skyrim itself won't handle more than 4gb at once since it is a 32bit game, but I use almost every mod for the texture pack combiner, and the hd dlc, plus over 75 mods, and my game runs fine. Also, 1080i takes a lot more to run (which I use), so expect to have lower fps, but most people don't realize that anything over 30 is not noticible at all. Mookeylama
it takes a lot to run 1080i? (or did you mean P. 1080p is better than i right? my TV will do both tho). didn't think it would take that much for an hdtv since i'm reading of folks with 3 monitors and using res like 5600x blah blah.
