3DS Max or Blender for Character Meshes?

Honestly either would be fine to for regular ol' modelling. Anyone who can model well is going to say the same thing> What is going to count for nearly all of your final result is whether or not you have good modelling skill and understanding of anatomy. The best program is the one you are most competent with.

I reckon if you're not going 'professional', go with Blender (because it's free), and while I'll admit to certain deficiencies of Blender, in general you won't run into problems for it.

Of course, if you, or could get, a student license for 3DS Max, try both. Some prefer 3DS Max's interface, I preferred Blender's. Both are more than suitable for the job.

Started working with Blender but the interface was very difficult to get use to as I'm sure a lot would agree with. It does look like 3DS is becoming standard for professionals and modders. I have had the student license which Autodesk was happy to provide which I have to say is amazing seeing as the full version goes for $4,000 USD. I think I'll stick with 3DS because of the simpler interface also because I have some more experience with it than I do Blender.

So here is another question to go along with full mesh creation. What modeling technique is the best when it comes to making meshes for games like Skyrim? I've been doing poly modeling in order to keep the poly count down.
