Sad face i gave away my second 24inch viewsonic for a mere 100$ to my Brother, i gave him a brake. now i am getting a 27 inch 16.10 res at 1920x1200.... Does anyone know of any really high resolution monitor brands i should look out for.. Mainly a 32inch or 27inch monitors size would be great.

Lol a 32inch would make watching blu ray worth while then http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/teehee.gif

I would prefer Viewsonic, but they only go as far as 27inches in size.

I guess 27inches it is, i rather just get a 27inch monitor that i know would work properly instead of have to go get another tv http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/teehee.gif

Also thinking of going the way of 3d. http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

Found one for a reasonable price http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

Dell actually makes some really good monitors (they use Samsung parts, so does Gateway). Newegg has a 27" one:

Expensive but it's 2560 x 1440 *drool* If I had that kinda money, I'd get that so fast lol.

Viewsonic has one but it's only 1080:

There's plenty of 27" ones on there. Dunno if you can order from them though...

Brands to ignore IMO are Acer and Hanns G. Acer ones tend to get dead pixels fast and Hanns G just have terrible backlights and colour.

As far as 3D, I don't know too much about it. I don't think they make really high resolution 3D monitors yet or of that size either.

I'm also looking at reviews to, i don't buy if its a bad review or it hasn't, its just the way i am. Apparently ati does a good job with eyefinity... So its a buy i think, hopefully they would have it in store http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/confused.gif

If you can find any witha decent review and under 300$ that would be awesome http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif Also probably going to wait till 3d goes down price, i will replace my other monitor with a 3d one. i bet in 2 years.

Not to familiar with peripherals like monitors but I would say look for one with a very high contrast ratio. My 1920-1080 has a 15,000,000 to 1. Which means that the colors are 15,000,000 x more vibrant than the black color the monitor can produce. Could be wrong but that was my understanding. I do know (or I think) that the higher this ratio the sharper the colors will be.

All the above aside, I am pretty sure Acer makes great stuff. My monitor is an Acer, I don't have any problems. Well I have one.. Sometimes the color can seem a bit uneven. The top and bottom can be bright, and the sides are a little bit dimmer. Not terribly noticeable, but I can see it.

As Illiad said Dell monitors are very nice. Quite pricey but very worth it. I have only heard good things about them.

contrast ratios are actually the worst thing to look at for a monitor. every Company evaluates their contrast ratios differently. your 15,000,000:1 ratio could be the same as another company's 20,000:1. actually, from sources ive read, the smaller the number, the more likely its a better quality monitor. high numbers sometimes indicate the company trying to get sales from customers who only look for numbers, and as such they use a different method of figuring out contrast ratio in order to produce a higher number. where as lower numbers tend to me more accurate and sometimes a better quality monitor.

Well don't I feel like a twit now..

Ok guys, I know next to nothing I guess lol. Come to think of it, I'm planning on three way monitor set up, so I will keep an eye on this board. To help me and the OP out can someone tell us what we should be looking for in a good monitor?

And Hoof does that mean that there is no monitor standard like there is for hardware?

With monitors its difficult to see through the bulls*** sometimes. It's the same with response times 2ms might not really be 2ms, this is mainly because these values can be explained in different ways.

If you need a new monitor just check reviews, forget the specs.

This is going to be my new monitor.

@ hoof:

I'm pretty sure extreme differences, like 1,000:1 and a 1,000,000:1 are because they're talking about different things. The small number is the static DR, and the large number is the dynamic DR.

Static DR is the true reflection of colour vibrance: the other is a load of *censored*, in that it's simply achieved through darkening or brightening the monitor. Of course, it's only one thing to consider when buying a monitor. You'd also consider what percent of the gamut the monitor could output (really, it's only important if you're doing sensitive colour work), reliability (my old LG's been running for over 6 years every day), and build quality.

Here's a good article. A bit overkill, but it could help you in deciding which monitor's suitable for you.

Tigerdirect was completely sold out of there 3d monitors, apparently 3d monitors are the big thing these days, and they are selling like hot cakes...

i guess i have no choice butt o order one online...

BenQ options intrigues me, they have fps counters built into the monitor itself. http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

HAAA, looks like Bestbuy has them in stock, might pick one up tomorrow or later today http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/teehee.gif
