Not sure why but i notcied my motherboard, videocard, even cpu reaching max temperture when only playing this game. i have allot of games but they never given me this type of dangerous problem. Is there some setting in skyrim that is causing temperture to rise rapidly like this ???

This happens even when i lower game settings to lowest. So i take this game has major prolems.

Skyrim uses a lot of power and resources, but it would not cause your computer to overheat, unless there were an issue with your computer.

Have you run a stress test? THis would show you if it were truly "just" skyrim or that skyrim happens to use enough resources for the problem to show up.

Also, you may want to reinstall your video drivers according to this method. If you have a corrupt driver install, it could cause serious GPU overheating by incorrect clocking and loss of fan control that could heat up your other components as well. I use the beta drivers and they work great for me and others, but you will need a completely clean install, which the link will help you achieve.

Uh... this may sound like stating the obvious and you certainly did this already but... I had the same problem too for a while (i7, 6Gb RAM, nVidia 360, Realtek) until I opened my PC and did a thorough dusting off all fans. They did not look dusty but probably some tiny particle was preventing the fans to do their jobs because it all stopped overheating after that.

No it doesn't many don't even know how dust can kill the longivity of your pc. But i always made sure my room remianed clean and always dust off my pc every 3 to 6 months.

I think it was some kind driver error. I remmebered i installed newer version of Nvdia after driver 2.95 something.. Guess i will have to do this new the way. Thanks for tip.

btw any tips on how to set the fan speed for Nvidia i see the manuarer made it to auo at 30% but i think it was getting to hot before the fan even started to work to cool the videoard. i already have 3 other fans to cool my case. on in the front to blow in clean air the back to suck out the air and one at a side to cool it more efficiently

Also what is acceptible temperture ?? i think the way it was getting near 90 degrees celsius. Witch is way too high.

Do you know who manufactures your card? I have an EVGA card and so I use EVGA's precision to set clocks, fps, and fan algorithm. I really like it.

However, depending on your manufacturer you may prefer Afterburner, or Riva Tuner. One of the biggest issues with the driver update procedure change fiasco is that the fan control was lost, and so they would not heat properly, so before worrying about the fan, I'd so the complete clean reinstall of the drivers. It's only a bit of a pain the first time. Also, really I haven't heard anyone with any problems with the beta drivers, so you might skip the most recent WHQL version and go for the beta.

PS, I just looked up your cards max temp, it's 99c. if your fan is at 30% when your card is running at 90C, there is definitely an issue there.

@ dzorro: nope, sorry, I don't have any tip for you about how you could set your fan speed but have you googled that question or tried YouTube? My GPU is too old and does not have that feature. I just know I did not dowload the latest driver about a couple of weeks ago because reports on the internet were not that great - I'm still running on the previous version, some 2 or 3 months older and have had no problems at all so far. But that could not be the same driver as yours, your GPU is much more recent than mine. Don't know if it would be such a good advice, but have you tried to downgrade to the previous driver?

And about the temperature itself, when my GPU overheated it could sometimes reach 105° Celsius before I had any CTB. Now, on a very hot day, it can still go up to 95° with fan at 90% - but it more usually stays around 65 or 70°, with fan at 70%. (nVidia GT 360).

If you're constant at 90° - and like Georgiegril says, if your fan is not going full speed at that temperature, then there is definitely a problem, which may actually be with the fan itself. On the other hand, if your fan is at full speed when you're reaching 90°, that means it is still trying to do its job - or it is set to go full speed but does not really because something in there slows it down - in that case, clean it up again if you haven't done it in a few months - in the summer, we tend to live with our windows open and lots of dust and micro particles can get in (being a smoker, I sure knwo about it!..)

A friend of mine had a similar problem lately (not nVidia though) and it turned out to be a hardware problem. Have you contacted your local dealer to ask about this?

Sorry I can't help more than that... Hope you'll find a solution quickly. Be careful about overheating too much, if your CPU is too close, it's not really good for it either...
