Whenever i start a new game everything goes ok until i have to make my character. I am female so i want to play female but if i choose female, the pc shuts dowmn. If i choose male, i can keep going, no issues. I have a new pc 8 gig mem, nvidea 560 gtx, 2 tb harddrive. I have taken off all mods, and retried, the only way for me to play as a woman is to download someone elses save game female game.

This also happens at the face changing lady in riften. :wallbash:

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Your computer shuts down? Like.. literally? I'm afraid I have to double check on that because it sounds so weird.

Did you change anything in your game? Did you add any mods or change settings in the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini?

The only thing i have done was to put on SKSE. But today i had to format my pc due to it being hacked so SKSE is not yet and it still plays up. Thank you for your reply

Having too many hair mods can cause your game to crash to desktop when choosing a female at startup. This is especially true of the Apachii Sky Hair mod. What you do then is disable all of your hair mods and create your character. After leaving Helgen Keep re-enable your hair mods and use ShowRaceMenu Alternative to finish your character.

Note that this doesn't explain why it is that your machine shuts down or why it crashes at Riften. That I have no answer for especially being a new computer.

When you say "shuts down" do you mean your pc completely shuts down as in turns off on it's own or crashes to desktop? And are you using any custom female races? I had an issue with ctd's in character creation due to one of those. And like Rabbit said, too many mods for creation choices can be more than your pc can handle. Extended Slider Colors is another that is very tough on some peoples games as well.

Do you remember Which one it was? I had something similar happen last night with the temptress race, Lunari and Ashen seemed ok. Temptress for some reason would CTD on the character creation process, and yes I also experienced the too much hair mods CTD as well, but I wasn't having my PC go totally south, just a CTD.

It's been a while back and while I can't swear to which it was I do remember it was either Drow or Temptress. Sorry I can't be more specific but if I remember I will let you know.

If your machine is shutting down it has either encountered an unrecoverable Kernal error, a CMOS issue, or a hardware/power failure (assuming you have no virus like activity)

My first guess, since most of the female types in the Character lab have vastly increased graphic intense requirements is that you have a video card problem. If you are overclocking, you have exceeded what is safe. If you are not, listen for fans in your PC to increase in speed. If they are already on high output, heat can be a problem. thermal shutdowns can happen within milliseconds of there buildup. Most video cards are not working at peak performance until the additional shaders, cores and rendering. Resolution of your monitor will also play a role in stability if your card is older.

Here is a good program to test your system. This will really put it through a series of events and let you know exactly where your system sits. If you have a problem with hardware, this will at least bring it to the foreground. If you encounter no problems running this, then it is something else. Be aware, that once your system resources start being utilized, the power requirements of your power supply will come into play. An under powered system can be damaging to your hardware. You will get arcing across contact, solder joints and connectors.

Good luck :)
