magnanimousmudd
I posted this picture yesterday, figure now I'll post it in the forum.http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/images/979165-1348554733.jpg Could anyone enlighten me on how to let the black borders not show up?If I have to recolor from the base texture again, I can, but I'd rather not ;v Its probably something simple that I should already know, but no shame in asking

The format exported from the dump is .tga and the saved format is .png. TGA saves transparency in alpha channels, but to have transparent PNG you need to create a layer with alpha. (I'm assuming you're loading it up in Photoshop, other programs should be similar though.) What I do is I bring up the Channels palette (Window->Channels) and ctrl+click the alpha channel to select it. You can then copy all layers (Edit->Copy Merged) and paste to a new layer, then hide all the other layers. What you've got is a single layer with the right colours and transparency, and you can now just save as PNG.
magnanimousmudd
Thanks for the input. I managed to do it, though not as smoothly as I would have wanted. It'll do though
Kaffeebohnson
I too have a problem with transparency. I want to "erase" the cape on the Black Knight Armor. The lower edge of the cape is worn out via Alpha Channel. When I delete the Alpha Channel, flatten the picture and "erase" holes into it, then save as PNG,It looks nice and transparent in Windows, but shows up plain White ingame. Can anyone explain again maybe?
Kaffeebohnson
while testing around I realized; the transparency in my texture works fine, but there seems to be a mysterious white rectangle underneath the cape? Nevermind the texture, it's just for test - as you can see, the lower part of the cape "deletes" just fine, but in the upper half a white plane remains. Anyone know what's up with that? http://www.apload.de/images-i197844b2peuf.jpg Edited September 30, 2012 by Kaffeebohnson
magnanimousmudd
As far as I understand, the meshes for a lot of things still show up when you make all textures transparent. Since you cannot edit models yet, if it doesn't go invisible when you remove the textures, then theres nothing that can be done.
Kaffeebohnson
Do you know why only part of the model (mesh?) stays white, and part of it becomes transparent with no problem? It seems so random to me.
Emarrel
I appears that only certain parts of the mesh are marked for transparency. For reference, I made the entire torso part of the knight set transparent (including the arms) and only the scarf piece became entirely transparent:http://puu.sh/1acFa.jpg This makes sense, because only that area had transparency in the first place. The only conclusion to make is that the capes are probably split separately in the mesh, and only one part is marked as being able to accept transparency. Looks like I was just fortunate when I added transparency to the Crown of Dusk. Edited September 30, 2012 by Emarrel
magnanimousmudd
Honestly, I've absolutely no clue. Just some things can't be made transparent. Hopefully people can find a way to edit models from the game soon, if ever.
Kaffeebohnson
That would be nice, because the Black Knight Armor is so badass, but that ridiculous little nonmoving cape you have to stare at totally ruins it :P Thanks for your analysis...es(?). I take marking a mesh for being transparent takes up ressources of some kind, so you try to keep the areas as small as possible as a developer. Maybe I'll try to come up with a better cape instead... though I would prefer the armor to be completely capeless ^^ /edit: Heres my new cape! http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/125/ Edited October 1, 2012 by Kaffeebohnson
