This ban has grated me since I saw it back in October of last year. I'm aware it was at a time a few months before the release of our new moderation tools and warning system, a time when we outright banned for most infractions of the TOS, but it was always a weak ban at best. To make matters worse, Trainwiz sent in an unban request a week or so later in which 2 staff members agreed he should be allowed back, but a third judgement was never made (3 staff need to agree before a banned member can return). The unban request remains still open and unactioned. I myself was away in Greece for 3 weeks at the time and I assume it was a time when lots of moderators were out of action or away. That's our fault.

 

Since then we've had to regularly check for duplicate and suspicious accounts, lots of Trainwiz's mods are on the Nexus handled in proxy by other members, a few bridges have been burnt between Trainwiz and other mod authors, and there's been some sort of silly superiorirty complex shown in regards to some areas by Trainwiz on his blog and other places. But I feel partly responsible for the results considering the above; a weak ban and an unban request that should have been actioned but wasn't. While I don't want to endorse people getting banned and then taking a dump on everyone because they didn't get unbanned, because 95% of the unban requests we receive are pants-on-head-stupid and don't deserve to ever be actioned. But this one did deserve to be actioned, and should have been, and as such I'll accept responsibility for some of what has happened because of it.

 

I am going to action an unban based on the original ban and see what happens.

 

Since then our policies have changed greatly. And definitely for the better. Trainwiz has a fan base who enjoy his mods but he's also burnt bridges with plenty in this community as well, which will mean this ban will rankle with some, and not least some of the moderators here, which means (I assume) that Trainwiz will be under some close scrutiny.

 

Follow our rules, keep your mouth shut if you've got nothing good to say (lets face it, you have plenty of opinions, lots of them aren't nice, and lots of us aren't going to care what those opinions are!), and don't give the moderation team a reason to think you're taking the piss and everything will be absolutely fine.
