Essential Mods

Hey fellow modders!

I havent played skyrim for quite a long time but somehow I want to start playing again. I decided to do a hunter playtrough and would love to hear what are essential mods for skyrim (in general) and especially for hunters.

With essential mods I mean things like SkyUI or iHud, mods that everyone should use. What is out there and what do you consider essential! Please tell me.

Would be cool if i can get some feedback on what mods i should use!

Thanks!

  •
  • Frostfall and any one of the billion (okay, like 5-ish) "basic needs" eat-sleep-drink mods, for sure. Especially if you're playing a hunter who's going to be out in the wild a lot. ;) (I endorse ICMN myself.)
ICMN - Nord Needs - SkyRealism Feast and Famine - TRO
  • Take a look at Indigo Neko's page and select from the SkyRealism mods (Time and Travel and Mass and Materials are necessary for me; I tried the ENB but my computer said no-go :< )
  • Climates of Tamriel.
  • Real Wildlife Skyrim, definitely for hunting, and Harvest more food and ingredients, along with Faster Cell Respawn (I don't think I was ever naturally out of an exterior cell, say around Whiterun, long enough for it respawn with the vanilla schedule, so I needed that, but it might be a bit cheaty. That link isn't for the exact one I use since mine is from Steam and doesn't seem to be here.)
  • "Kill Them All!" (that one is a Steam link, I'm sure you can find similar here), if you want to be able to slaughter essential people (which I believe is necessary) - or if you just want to be able to smack the crap out of them without killing them, Janus Forbeare's Fighting Words.
  • The Speech Tree for when you want to stop fighting.

Those aren't quite everything I actually think is essential, but you didn't mention playing a vampire or someone particularly fascinated by the macabre, so I trimmed it down for you. :P

A couple mods I don't use but would probably be good for a hunter is some sort of house mod, like the Build Your Own Home, and the hunter's guild, but that's only about half completed.

other options are

Harvest Overhaul especially the creatures plugin if you like the idea of getting some random amounts of meat and such from animals rather than a fixed high or low value.

SkyTEST - Realistic Animals and Predators this is good because not only does it add additional animals it also gives them better behavior AI. I never had any serious problems with it. Some people have given it a bad rap because their game crashed and the last papyrus log entry was supposedly related to SkyTEST, but these people with uber rigs and tons of mods just don't want to consider that they could possibly be overtaxing their game and simply crashing due to reaching a memory cap for the game.

And another example of shameless self promotion: Nature of the beast II. You can smell your prey or be smelled (the last option will be fixed in the next update). For example the wind blows from north, you can sense the prey north of you, but you can be smelled by the prey south of you. In addition you can transform into alpha werewolf and hunt with a fellow pack of wolves/werewolves you befriended. You can even order them to attack a specific target for you. Of course the same is for your followers, you can control the same way. You can live in the beast form as long as you want or even eat, drink and sleep in the form. In short you can become not just the hunter but the top predator of Skyrim.

- Definitely the Hunter's Guild mod mentioned above, Hunting in Skyrim.

- There are several good house mods aimed toward hunters--for example Woodsman's Shack is nice and simple, while Hunter's Lake House is grander.

- A camping mod like Camping Kit of the Northern Ranger with tents and deployable traps.

- SkyTEST for more animal spawns and better AI.

- Arrows and Bolt Tweaks, or something similar.

- If you're looking for a good follower for a hunter character, my Aela the Huntress mod adds several features that could make her a good choice--like, she'll let you know when you're near a camp site.
