Follower thinks that she is following me

So i was having serana follow me for a while and sent brelyna (my wife) back home. Now i sent serana home and wanted to get brelyna back following me but when i go back to my house shes there and walking around the house and everything correctly, except when i talk to her, all my dialog options suggest that she is already following my. (I can ask her to part ways but not to join me)

Does anyone know how to reset the dialog options to allow her to follow me again? (terminal command?)

I had big dialog overhaul installed but removed it a while ago, so that may be the culprit? I cant find it on the nexus site anymore so i cant redownload it and try asking her to follow me.

Any help would be great!

I have seen this before.

Try this : open the console and type "set playerfollowercount 0"

This will remove any "ghost" followers and reset the counter. You may have to leave the area and come back. See if that helps out. :)

Make a save game before console editing just in case something goes amiss.

thanks, i tried that but she still acts like she is not my follower, but has dialog options that suggest she currently is following me! i even used the show playerfollowercount command and it shows 0.0000 .

is there a way to merely reset the dialog? I tried the resetai command and the disable/enable commands too...

Thanks for any help

You don't want to dismiss her and then ask her to join you again? Does something bad happen when you do that, like she loses anything you gave her? Or can you ask her to wait, then ask her to follow again? I have a follower mod, so I'm not sure what commands are available normally, but I think you can do those. Otherwise, try bringing up the console, selecting her, then writing down the ID you see. Go where you want to go, then bring the console up again, type "prid <id you wrote down>", then hit enter key, followed by the command "moveto player". That will bring her to you, and she might suddenly wake up and realize what she is supposed to be doing. I have to teleport Lydia around a lot using that strategy, because she either gets stuck, won't jump off a cliff to follow, stumbles onto a confusing navmesh and just stands there with a blank look on her face, simply loses interest in following for no apparent reason, or spontaneously decides to remain in the tavern boozing it up. well i did dismiss her at first, then she went home like expected. but when i went up to her again later, the only thing i could say was "i think we should part ways" again. so shes technically dismissed, but her dialog thinks she is following me. I tried everything you said but non the less there is still no "follow me" option in her dialog, just "lets part ways".

Is there a way to type "follow me" into console? or use the creation kit to make the "follow me" option available all the times? (even if she is already following me)? i even did things like "resetai"

Changing the PlayerFollowerCount only changes the game's tally of followers, not the actual "status". You may be in some sort of limbo state with the follower such that the game is confused over the discrepancies across SEVERAL variables that determine follower status, dialogue, etc. Your best bet is to "reset" the follower by removing the follower completely as a "follower" and then re-recruiting.

Click on the misbehaving follower in the console to get the follower's PRID (reference ID in-game).

Once you have that, do a console "removefac 5c84e", without the quotes and hit enter. This removes the follower from the FACTION, and this setting is what, in part, determines the dialogue options you see when speaking with the follower.

You'll also probably want to "Addfac 5c84c", which is the "Dismissed" follower faction.

Finally, you'll need to do a "SetPlayerTeammate 0". This is what controls the follower drawing weapons, going into sneak, etc.

Note that the above relates to FOLLOWERS, not hirelings. For hirelings, follow the same process but also make sure you get the various hireling factions.

Note also that you may need to take additional steps depending on the follower framework mod you use, if any. This is because the framework mods tend to store the followers in aliases, and some clear automatically under certain circumstances, others don't.
