Outer Worlds questions

I was just watching a trailer for Obsidian's Outer Worlds and I had a few questions.

1. Will there be something like Bethesda's Creation Kit and Nexus mods?

2. Will the game have useful cheat codes?

3. Will Obsidian offer DLCs?

4. Is Outer Worlds an open worlds space where you can explore all areas?

The last thought was not so much of a question but an observation. The characters seemed like an odd melding of something between Fallout 4 quality and the Emperor of the 2006 Oblivion game. Hopefully there will be mods that can improve look. Not sure how limited the Unreal 4 engine is in that regard.

Obsidian is part of Microsoft's first party studio so it will also be available in the Microsoft's store. I highly doubt there will be much modding for this game besides texture packs and minor alterations. Unreal Engine 4 isn't exactly known for supporting mods unless Obsidian somehow manages to release an editor for it. The game probably will have some cheat codes They were using some cheats when they were showing off the game at E3.

Considering how many DLCs they put out for New Vegas, we'll probably see some DLC for this but I am gonna assume it will be primarily dependent on its success.

According to Obsidian, all areas will be open unless areas are locked to the player temporarily due to story/plot reasons.

Unreal Engine 4 isn't exactly known for supporting mods ..

That's simply not true. Conan Exiles is based on UE4 and it supports modding. It has a full development kit that can be downloaded through the Epic launcher.

I tried it and as far as I remember it supports various games. Basically mods are deployed as .PAK files that you need to put in a certain directory (e.g. /Mods/).

There is also a file that determines load order. The dev kit seems to be fairly complicated and has a huge footprint (about 188 GB for Conan Exiles).

@LadyMillia Ok, let me rephrase and cite the sources I'm basing my opinion around. You need to know how unfriendly it is towards modders.

Conan Exiles is the exception and 188 GB download and knowledge of C++/UE IDE just to mod a game is not what I would consider mod friendly. If everything could be done through blueprints, things might be slightly better but even then it has some major pitfalls.

If Obsidian manages to put out a mod kit that changes this as mentioned in the article you linked, I would be happily surprised.

I've tinkered with UE3/3.5/4 and it is not an easy engine to develop for unless you already have some prior experience with it. This is one of the reasons why I personally started learning Unity a while back.
