Hearthfire is out for PC!

The Unofficial Skyrim Patch doesn't play well with Hearthfire. I got a CTD every time I tried to enter Breezehome until I disabled USP. So, I emptied Breezehome and moved all my stuff (courtesy of my horse) to my shiny new home in Falkreath, and then re-enabled USP.

There's going to be a LOT of compatibility bugs with various mods, I suspect. No big surprise, the price of being able to mod.

Scripted mods are taking the hardest hits. Until SKSE is updated they are pretty useless right now. Hit me so hard that my save game became corrupted and wasn't able to load. Be warned mod downloaders!

EDIT: Beware of the Thirteen Oranges "Places: Oakwood" mod. Game will crash and has a compatibility issue with the Navmesh where you build your home in Hearthfire. It may also corrupt your game save file if you save near there. Take caution.

Well you can still buy it and download it. LOL! If you have already downloaded and installed Hearthfire and don't want to disrupt your previous game (before the DLC) without disabling any mods or scripts...I suggest just unclicking the "Hearthfire.esm" on your NMM. Until SKSE and mods start updating its not gonna work properly with a lot of them and could mess up or corrupt your save files.

I'm sure SKSE will be updated (as it states on the SKSE site: Compatibility: SKSE will support the latest version of Skyrim available on Steam, and only this version (currently 1.7.7.0). When a new version is released, we will update as soon as possible; please be patient.).

They did with Dawnguard. There are always fixes to these tiny issues. The issues aren't anything major, and if anything they should be expected, just like with Dawnguard. Everything was straightened out in a matter of days. So I have no worries.

HF will likely conflict with more mods than DG did, since it makes changes to all of the vanilla houses and most of the smaller towns, whereas the new areas added by DG are off the beaten track. Official fixes by Bethesda and the SKSE team will only be able to do so much to prevent that. That said, I agree that we should expect to see some updates in the not-too-distant future that will work out some of these kinks.

I wasn't too enthusiastic about HF to begin with, and all these conflict reports aren't doing much to shake my perception that this DLC is a bit of a middle finger to the modding community. From Beth's point of view, I'm sure that's just collateral damage, but it's a pain in the butt nonetheless. Here's hoping that whatever they release next adds a new worldspace, à la Bloodmoon or Shivering Isles. I can't see many conflicts coming from something like that.

I actually have a modded house in my game and it played with no problems after installing Hearthfire. So the DLC plays no conflicts really with modded houses (might be a different story for "Build Your Own House" mod), as far as I could tell. Load doors and everything else worked as it did before. It seems the problems going on with the DLC is compatibility issues with the new areas Hearthfire uses and also with scripting (which also happened with Dawnguard). Saving the game with script issues sucked though. It took forever to save and in a few instances corrupted a few of my save files and I was unable to load the game from those files again. Other than that I saw no other major issues running the game.

I am in accord with most of what JanusForbeare says, as usual. I don't think of HF exactly as a middle finger, but I am not sure Beth would be at all concerned about the problems HF causes the modding community. Which seems kind of weird, what with the creation and fairly heavy promotion of the Steam Workshop. There are a lot more first-time modders (both authors and users) there, and I am guessing they will have even more issues than the modders over here.

Maybe that's a benefit of the Workshop--the outcry over there from compatibility issues may be heard and responded to more quickly.

I just received an email from Ian Paterson (from SKSE) and he claims:

"A new version of SKSE is not required to use Hearthfire."

Interesting. I guess the modders of those scripted mods are going to have to update their mods to be compatible with Hearthfire. Well that kind of sucks! LOL! You hear that modders? Your on your own!
