Ok guys...here is a question for you.

I don't really consider myself a gamer. I played Oblivion for a long time now but it took me some time to master. I play Morrowind some. I have played a couple of consule RPG games (Baldur's Gate, etc) but never any 1st person shooter type games.

Would I like Fallout 3?

I like Sci-FI and that kind of storyline...but I am seem to be a bit....intimidated...by the looks of this game.

Would I like it? Should I spend the money (and give up say...food) and try it out?

:)

Hard to say, not knowing you and everything.

You might love it you might hate it. Maybe try another (cheaper) game first that has a similar feel and see if you like the mechanics of that. Because most FPS games are exactly the same in terms of gameplay, visual style etc.

The only thing that would be different about Fallout would be the RPG elements and the storyline.

Basicly I would try another FPS (one from a friend, child, for free etc) and see if you like FPSs at all.

If you are not sure, hold off for a couple of weeks and let the reviews cool down. Right now its like a new toy and everyone playing it is enamored with it's newness. In a few weeks, the real reviews will be out and you can make a better decision.

After playing for a couple of hours i can give you a different opinion Dez. I would say it all depends on if you like shooting things or not, as its impossible to avoid in this game unlike Oblivion.

If you dont mind having to shoot things then you should love this game as it a lot of great |friendly| features that oblivion had

I would recommend that you get it but don't expect it to be heaven until they release mod tools. Just like Oblivion it has a lot of little nuances that need to be adjusted to the individual. This game has a lot of modding potential and if you get the funds before they release the SDK get it but like Woogie said don't give up food for it. Once the SDK is out then you can go hungry to have the means to mod in a Sci-Fi setting. Oh boy , I can't wait.

so..maybe i´ll be the only person who is really disappointed somehow..playing oblivion for a long time i expected a lot more from Fallout 3. Not concerning the graphics...but he PC and the movement. playing in 3rd person mod in found myself playing morrowind (years ago!!) so it seems oblivion didn´t ever exist. the pc is walking the same way knotted like in morrowind and got the same look also ! bad quality compared to oblivion. sorry to say that. i really wonder how they could release a game two years AFTER Oblivion with the quality of morrowind (as is said: concerning only the PC !) i don´t know if YOU or somebody else will like the game but i myself will sell it to the next person who likes to play it.. (needless to say for a cheaper price :( )

Yeah i agree with test, playing in 3rd person is definitely a no-no.... Player actions/movements are just horrible, its only good for the vanity-cam, and even that sucks.

You can easily ignore it and play it 1st person tho, I only use the other view to see what i look like now and again.

Third-person is amusing enough- the 'normal' animations are still a little off, but the limping animations are fun to watch. I question the over-the-shoulder camera, though; in 3P it always feels like I'm running diagonally. That aside, I really can't think of an RPG or hybrid offhand that has really good character animations- that still seems to be a shooter-specific thing.

The jumping animations are quite a bit better than Oblivion's, even though they're still not perfect. Try vaulting over a high counter in 3P to see what I mean; your character will plant his/her foot on the edge and kick off it if the object is just slightly higher than to allow a 'clean' jump over it. That's a big improvement over just bouncing off the collision box and falling back, and a huge improvement over stiffly clipping up over the top from momentum (as in Oblivion). The sidestep and sneaking animations are also much better looking than before, IMHO.

I do wish there were some manner of animation for turning around- Mechsims have been doing it for years with legged models; I'm no code-head but I don't understand why F/TPSs and RPGs still release without that bit of detail. It is really weird to play a current-gen game and yet still see your character pivot around in place like they were standing on a turntable with a pole up their arse. A standing-in-place turning animation isn't too much to ask for, is it? It isn't a game-breaker, but it is one of those little things that really should be there but isn't- and damn near every game I've played to date is guilty of it. I would also really like to see more games where the player model is visible in 1P perspective.

Hi Lisnpuppy,All i can say is,i'm enjoying it a lot but i'm a 3d addict lol. It's both first and 3rd person, like Oblivion. To me it has its own feel and look. You leave the safety of your vault and find yourself in a post war world with only reminders of what that world must have been like.A very dangerous place where scavenging is a way of life and very powerful mutations abound.

Hmm,giving up food, yeah 50 bucks,i know what you mean.I had an extra 50 so....Had i not had i would be saving up for this one because i do like to eat. :) Like others i am,somewhat, disappointed but my imagination is,almost, never satisfied by reality.

There are some problems,i've had some freeze ups that kind of thing but that's comp gaming for you.You might want to wait for a patch and i'm sure that there will be several more to wait for after that one  .I really like the graphic design in this one.It reminds me of what people in the 50s thought the future would look like. Some of the clothing are right out of the 50s.All in all i think you would enjoy it.Take care.
