What happen icestorm's

Yeah... that's kinda normal. As soon as your mod is getting liked by the community. Some a*holes will pirate it and redistribute it somewhere else.

I made the same experience years ago. I also thought about cancelling modding and pulling my mods, but in the end, I didn't do it, because I like what I do. I love to distribute my work with others. The participation in a community, building together and making a good game better.

That's more or less my thoughts. Anything of any value released on the internet is going to disperse around it. The damage is done pretty much the moment it is uploaded. That's just the unfortunate reality of the internet. I keep my stuff up and keep creating because I want those people who want legitimate, safe access to have it. And because my attitude toward creation is essentially 'what's the point of putting in all the effort if nobody else is going to experience it?'

That said, if someone is frustrated and wants to pull their stuff, that's all up to them. I find it unfortunate, but I can understand the reasoning.

If a website blatantly copies stuff from the original creator, the creator can

1. Complain to Google

2. Flag the website

3. If enough people complain or you are super lucky, Google actually investigates, the website disappears from the search engine.

4. Those people must be damn stupid to pay for free mods

5. Honestly, fewer and fewer people are still playing Fallout 4 (I play because of settlement building).

6. I donate money to mod authors but it is so little he/she can only buy a packet of coffee in the supermarket.

7. If McDonalds charge me $$$ to go to toilet, I will pee in the car park to protest, ya huh.

Yeah. I knew that stuff like that would happen some time.

Iâm always thinking that there must be someone who pays for these pirated mods. I mean, otherwise nobody would upload them behind a paywall anymore.

But piracy wasnât the reason I pulled my mods (just to clarify).

My mods had a bunch of issues and there where to many people trolling and also insulting me (and now do because Iâve pulled my mods). Sorry, but you may understand that, I have better things to do if people act like this.

And yeah. It looks like the modding community for FO4 is slowly breaking apart. Really sad.

People were insulting you? Your mods were great! Some people have too much time on their hands, and not enough brains in their skulls.

Peace and Good luck.

It's funny how you twisted the story to make yourself look like the victim, when in reality there were more experienced modders willingly offering their time and advice to you on how to improve your work and optimize your work better for FO4.

You ported in a 200,000 polygon vest into a game that can barely handle 50,000 poly as it is. You were irresponsible on top of this and put no warnings up, even went as far as porting it to XB1 and when it inevitably started crashing people's games and consoles you literally blamed everything but yourself and acted like your work was perfection incarnate. You even talked down to modders who had more experience than you in creating their own assets for FO4, as if what they had to say to you was completely incorrect.

For anyone curious, this is icestorm's vest. From the files themselves.

You literally self admitted that you are too lazy to retopologize your meshes which is a horridly poor excuse for putting in models that the game can't handle in gameplay. If you're gonna be out here releasing work, you should be doing the bare minimum to make sure that it doesn't cause lag, crashing or other issues for people using it. Reality is your models are not optimized for gameplay and the game cannot handle it. you acting is if more experienced modders are wrong for telling you this shows that you don't want to take any steps to improve your work or do better.

You even admitted to knowing that your extreme high poly count was bad for games, yet you still put it out. That is beyond irresponsible. You turned down numerous tutorials and modders willing to help you because you think you can do no wrong and it's absolutely sad.

Tbh, The only person responsible for icestorm leaving is icestorm. If they can't handle the heat of criticism and want to have a cocky attitude and believe they are above people with far more experience then them, that's on them. It's sad to lose content, but at the same time, I have no sympathy for someone who literally has done nothing to help themselves, talked down to people trying to help them then turns around and plays victim.

Edit: More shots below if icestorm twisting the story and playing victim.

Well, at first I wanted to move over to Beth.net exclusively. But after uploading new mods there and getting the same insulting (not criticizing) response as here via PM, I pulled the plug.

I’m not talking about criticism on my unoptimized meshes. If that would be the case I would’ve deleted all my stuff much earlier. I was even working on a complete re-topo for my weapon mods. Got my MP5 already down to 30k polys for the whole weapon with all attachments (from 350k).

And the game can barely handle 50k polys? I’ve made a different experience (maybe it’s true for consoles). The game can easily handle millions of polys.

But think what you want...it doesn’t matter anymore.

Context is important. Keep in mind when I say the game can barely handle 50,000 poly I mean concentrated onto one character - You would note this since you know people were experiencing crashes with your work on attempts to do anything in normal gameplay (Render blood, render effects, etc)

I knew what you've meant. But even that is no issue for that game and won't make it crash. I've tested it.

I'm always playing with my own mods and I know at least two others, doing that too. Neither they, nor I experience those problems.

But for the luck of the modding community, my mods vanished now and the problems with it.

Except you are literally disregarding the difference in systems and that not everyone around has the exact specs you have, not to mention the fact that you uploaded an asset unpotimized knowing it was terrible for the game and want to blame everyone having issues with your mod because "I can run it, so obviously it's not a problem". To make matters worse, you knew your work was bad for the game, you knew XB1 systems are not the best graphically and your content may not work outside of your specs, yet you still uploaded to XB1 users, You literally broke numerous people's games, and for what? Cause it seems you only did this for the popularity cause quality jumped out the window here sis.

I'm sorry but your complete attitude, coupled with your total irresponsibility and inability to take any form of criticism without playing the victim just shows you clearly have no regard for anything but your own selfish desires. You had people willingly trying to put their time and effort to help you improve your work and you constantly turned it down, thinking yourself better than people who have more experience than you do, and people who have made their own assets, not bought them or ported them from other places... You have no one here to blame but you for the issues you ran into.
