Seekirus
Title description pretty much says it all. If I made a soundtrack for skyrim to replace the current one would it be illegal to host on the nexus if say it was from a cartoon show or from a movie? I'm guessing it would be but I just wanted clarification.
AnkhAscendant
If you don't hold the copyright to the music (like in your examples) then yes. You can't redistribute anything you don't own.
LargeStyle
You can't redistribute anything you don't own ... unless you have written approval from the copyright owner, which Nexus moderators will ask to see proof of (as they could be held liable for copyright infringement). Although this is totally understandable, yes is frustrating as I have replaced the Skyrim soundtrack with various film music, including Lord of The Rings and various other "epic" material, which I think suits the game perfectly, but I can't share it. Georgiegril
Well, you can share it, in the sense that you can post "hey these songs sound great with Skyrim." Then people can get them legally if they are wanting to add to their soundtrack. As a musician, I can tell you those tiny royalty checks do matter. When I think of LOTR soundtrack, I think of the 2nd oboe player in the symphony...If you love the music, it's worth supporting the musicians who made it. Well, yes, but I figured that since we're not going to get permission from Warner Brothers I didn't think that was an issue :P But of course that's true. bben46
We do ban for uploading copyrighted music. Nearly every tune on the internet is copyrighted - and even the ones from so called free music sites - they are lying if they say any music or soundtrack from a TV, movie or other published source is free to use. We do allow uploading any music you created yourself - that does not mean things like remixes as that is just another form of copying and not creating. We do allow uploading any music that you can get the copyright holder to allow you to upload - we may ask for proof. Why are we so strict? Ask the people from Megaupload what happened to them. http://www.nbcnews.c...rs-seized-84897 Ask Jamie Thomas what happened to her. http://en.wikipedia....pitol_v._ThomasAsk Joel Tenenbaum http://en.wikipedia....MG_v._Tenenbaum Now ask yourself if you want your name or The Nexus added to that list. LargeStyle
Well, yes, but I figured that since we're not going to get permission from Warner Brothers I didn't think that was an issue Yeah, sorry, I was being pedantic  We do allow uploading any music you created yourself Glad to hear this, and hope there won't be any concerns with any claims of music being self-composed. I say this as I'm a composer of orchestral music and have been contemplating writing an alternative soundtrack for Skyrim, but I don't wont to go to potentially months of effort on something I can't share with others! Either way, thanks for recognising and respecting not only the law, but musicians' hard work.
bben46
If it is self composed, then YOU are the copyright holder. And you decide who gets to upload it where. Looking forward to hearing your work.
LargeStyle
@bben46: Good to know, and thanks for the clarification. Haven't even started on music yet as I'm in final stages of my soon-to-be-released lighting / weather mod. Too much work and not enough time ;D
