I don't know that I care about not having a boss fight. If he were wearing advanced power armor with jump jets and shields or something I could see there being such a thing, but the guy was practically naked as far as bullets are concerned. I'd rather have an epic battle leading up to a finale, which I got fighting the Enclave troops outside the building- running through a gauntlet of absolute carnage (those artillery shells are insta-gibs if you get smacked in the face by one, BTW) then having a good 'ol shoot-and-cover against a superior enemy was enough of a boss fight for me; I was rather glad to be able to just put a bullet in the Big Bad's head and laugh for a change.

It was a very Indiana Jones moment- he'd just gotten past the "and now you die" bit when I shrugged my shoulders and VATS-ed him in the noggin with my trusty .44. His bodyguards weren't happy, but secretly I think they were grinning because the boss was "too cool for armor." So was I, but I was quicker on the draw. :)

I am somewhat dissapointed with the rushed feeling I got from the very last leg of the main questline. To summarize:

-meeting "president" Eden. A computer, nice touch, liked that one. What I didn't like was the following conversation (paraphrased):

Me: "What you are doing is wrong, you should off yourself. Oh, and while you're at it, blow up the base, I can't be bothered with finding the main reactor in this maze."

Eden: "Sure thing!"

*kaboom*

I mean, what the hell? Were the writers suffering from a bad case of Burnout at the time they were writing the dialogue for this one? I have never seen such an inconsistent character... I mean, a science roll having a "Quickly open the front panel and yank some wires out" dialogue choice would be more fun and more believable than the above!

-final fight: took Autumns leg off with a plasma rifle. Melted his body guards. Took me and my trusty minigun-totting mutant friend circa five seconds to do that. But the giant robot spewing anti-communism paroles together with laser blasts was fun.

-end recap. That was simply lame, except the thinly veiled suggestion of sequels. War never changes. Good, more stuff to shoot. But there was no mention of what happened to Megaton, or what happened with them crazy ghouls at Tenpenny, or what happened with notable characters I've met during the game.

It feels weird - like the ending was deliberately rushed. The rest of the game, the sidequests and locales are very well done and quite enjoyable. I've spent more than 40 hours on my first playthrough and haven't even explored half of what the game has to offer. So it feels strange to have such a poorly paced and executed climax and ending when its compated to such a fleshed out game world. Maybe they left it unsaid because they want us to discover that on our own during sequels, but it means missing out on the crown jewel of previous Fallout games.

Well I spend good money on this disappointing what they call game. If they think I will buy any sequels to this game they are sadly mistaken. I Should have waited until more reviews were available. Oh well my loss........... Back to Oblivion...

I was very disappointed in how short the game was, but I have to agree on here that the side quests where pretty fun. I can't Bethsda made the game so short, I've played for about 30 hours now and the game's over, and can't continue, I was just starting to have fun. Hopefully, once the SDK tools are released, someone will fix this, as it would make a lot of people happy.

How is the game short? I logged 106 hours into the game before I finished, covering every corner of the map, and even missing out on some quests I read about in the Strategy Guide after beating it. *I dont want to spoil things so I read it after the first playthrough.

I find myself however, reluctant to play over because of the dissapointing ending. I was thinking of something major happening with Oasis, saving Harold and putting him into advanced growth. I would have at least wanted THAT quest to be in the ending, not Lincoln's fanboy slaves. What seems more influential, the possibility of giving the ENTIRE wasteland the possibility of seeing green plant life again, (possibily in conjunction with the NEW FRESH WATER) or a side quest about relocating slaves? It seems that seeing nature return to normal/or staying in isolation, and the life giving properties of fresh water would have been the focus points.

I loved the gameplay, but the ending was subpar.

it told me that i was the nemesis of the wastes and lost the path never to retun or somin... hell i was VERY good... mublemuble

for me there was no ending or end scene... plain as that. showing some sepia photos and a serious voice telling me how much i suck just doesnt cut it... i would at least have wanted to see a green wasteland or somin... and why the heck did i have to sacrifice myself for dads crazy mindfork anyway? shall doc li suicide if she needs it so bad... i did the same by setting harold free, hell green the place in no time and without nasty terraforming crap... thus no need to die!

but if you listen between the lines there are some occasions where the npc or storytellers refer seemingly to zenimax or whatever the publisher is as the reason the wastes are so screwed...

overall well made game...

many good features were dropped once again... (see myself in the menu? speech mini games? spears? etc)

some new (well not new but new for beth) were implemented (crafting and gore),

the stories are overall fun and offer quite some choices even though sometimes kinda limited in difference,

the quests suck totally as you always run here and run there and run some more and then you run back again... exceptions like daves election make the rule...

the scripted events deepened the atmosphere alot

too much pre war junk in top condition... lol sure skeletons survive 200 yrs in a fricking cheap us wooden house which is just as old... hillarious...

ghouls suck

Yeah i must admit i found the main quest a little short, but it was relatively fun, i get a bit annoyed when people say 'this is a waste' and 'not worth it' and all this crap, it isnt quite like fallout 1 or 2 but i think its still a pretty neat game and its not even the same creators, i think ive clocked up a few days worth of gaming over three characters and am finding it quite enjoyable, i am however annoyed of the fact that the end isnt open gameplay, i can accept it if you become a human glowstick but if you didnt make yourself into a luminous torch you should still be able to play!

With any luck mods will help this game become more enjoyable, i mean, if i played vanilla oblivion now i would be like WTF... give it time for mods to make the game more enjoyable

Are the endinngs different depending on your karma at the end? I was neutral and I didnt notice any "he was really good" or "he was evil" comments, but maybe that was because i was neutral.

And what are you talking about with the references to the publishers? what were they?

Well after playing just 18 hours I have come to the end of the game. When I got to the project Purity where I had to activate the water purification system, I needed to input the code. I have the code and after you input this code I died. I even went and restarted from a save just before this and let the other person do it and it is still the same ending. It seems after you start this purification system you are at the end of the game. Oh yes you do get a nice little speech on how you saved wasteland, but the game is over. By the way I did not do too many side quest. So if you want this game to last longer, then I guess you need to do all the silly little side quest. Unless anyone can prove me otherwise I think this game does not even come close to OBLIVION .

This for me was Oblivion with guns, but a lot shorter. So for now I will put this game to rest and wait until there are some decent mods for it.

You have got to be kidding me!

It has a "GAME OVER" ENDING! how lame is that.

Now I know I'm not buying it without mods available.

(Modeler99 have a kudo for giving me the warning, thanks)
