Alsiae: City of Cold and Frost (Latin)

Ok last spring i made an attempt to start a city project called Glacia...now not only am I changing the name of it...I am changing my processes for undertaking it. There is still alot of stuff I need to know and that I want to know in order to get this thing done and have it be original (which is everyone's aim) basically, it is a eternally winter-set city, its people a pale blue skinned elf. It is a city in a format that I plan to be organized like the imperial city, into districts, only on a much smaller scale. Like most projects... i plan to have the city nestled somewhere in the mountains. It will be urbanized. The architecture will be unique. I am thinking it will need to be something sharp and icy...cold and harsh looking, so nothing strikes me as more imposing as the architecture of Gothic Churches. Lots of spires, would look nice in an icy texture. Not much in the city should be made of stone. If it is... it will probably be like that of bruma, a cold granite gray. The people there will undoubtedl have their own religion, lore, and they might possibly speak latin (I heart Latin!) probably not though, because no one understands it and that is what the world lacks in my opnion aside from world peace...

For now, while i am trying to model the new srchitectural style, I need some help. How does one specify which faces are being displayed in a mesh? (I am using blender and am not sure if it is an exporting thing or not...using Blender) which brings me to: how do you create an INSIDE of a house/building? Then if there are any easy strategies to add collision to them. With a new city comes the need for new clothing and armor, things in Alsiae are sharp and icy, the dress and weapons should reflect that. This opens up a lot of creative possibilities. I love landscaping despite my lack of real talent for it. If anyone wants to join, please I need all the help i can get.

One more question...is there any way to make icy trees? I am making my own textures for everything, so that is at least something that I can handle.

I hope some people can be as interested in this project as I am. even with all my school work (dang AP classes) i hope to invest a significant amount of time in this, because it is one of the few things i am able to do in such a hectic schedule that is actually fun!

Ideas and comments (though hopefully not detrimental!) are welcome. Help is always greatly appreciated. And any modeler, programmer, animator... whatever! is cordially invited to join this currently one-person team.

ok...ran into problem #1. First of many to be sure. I am contructing the ice walls from the city's boundaries, and after i applied an subsurface modifier to the mesh to get it how i wanted, saved the uv map, applied the texture, and exported the nif. Then i brought it up in NifSkope to view it and then apply its collision data so i could be done with that part. To my not entirely surprise, something or another happened...and the subsurf is not being shown. neither for that matter i believe, is the smoothing. Now it just kind of looks like a sharp (in the worst way) very angular piece of awkward geometry.

Can someone tell me how i can make the mesh from blender actually be the mesh i want in the game?

And on that note, how does the scaling work? Like...how can i be sure that the walls are not going to be miniature. Initial angles and stuff like that. That is what i need to know! (along with how to smooth it out by keeping the subsurface and smoothing.

:wallbash: :thanks:

Next problem... adding the collision. Now, i know there are a lot of ways to do this. But i would really like to use the most simple of them for time's sake. If someone could tell me how to set up some simple collision, that would be ideal. I do not want to have to go through tha whole thing where you take another object, strip it of its information, and then add in the information of my mesh. SO TIME CONSUMING!!! If no one knows... i guess i will just use that way... what a pain!

Ok i got it to work! Not that hard I guess... anyway...soon i will be off trying to figure out in what kind of houses/ architecture i want the town to have. anyone have any concepts? I looked up some gothic...WAY TO INTRICATE for my blender skills. I really wanted the people to live underground... but that is kind of off topic. They should have a certain type of house to be sure. I just cant be sure exactly what kind it should be.

This is the picture which will undoubtedly serve as the central theme for the city. It is a superb mix of architecture and just plain old glacier wilderness. I am starting to build the landmass which has been proving problematic, but hey its worth it...just look how cool that is!!! And if anyone has any idea where i might find some good snow and ice textures to spring board with (NOT USE!!!) that would be greatly helpful. I already have made a whole bunch of icy ones, but none of them are really suited to the ground really. I can always use more though! More pictures to turn into textures are always neccessary!
