Antraxx777
It seems my game runs choppier when I turn on Streamline 3.0 than without it. There are a few instances indoors where I notice an improvement, but outdoors, around heavily polygoned areas (like the new Weye village mod) it stutters quite badly. I also noticed that Streamline seems to mess with my video sliders. Not cool. I set those where I've found them to work out for me and this thing just does what it wants with it. Is Streamline really worth it? Furthermore, is it maybe my load order hindering it?

Is Streamline really worth it? Furthermore, is it maybe my load order hindering it?There are two ways to configure streamline: in game (you can reach these sets pressing Ctrl + Home keys) with several hotkeys attached to it. and .ini file you'll find into it's directory at your Oblivion install folder (not the My Documents) the later being 'definitive' changes and the former actual game changes. Stuttering may be related to mouse and/or keyboard lag and loading times more than the framerate (Stremline will too try to save and purge memory second it's defaults that you may want to change). And messing with the sliders just says it is working and trying to keep things as near the minimal framerate it is set to try and achieve. All these features are configurable and can even be disabled, and well explained in the documentation, a good place to begin searching for a solution. But the final word must be yours. If it seems to worsen things so much at the defaults, you maybe don't need it or have to go deeply at configuring it's parameters.

myrmaad
I actually installed it last time I had some time to play, (last week sometime). I had it on the lowest setting, and it didn't seem to make anything work much better. I should mention I only decided to install it, because the SI palace gives me terrible lag. What the flock is up with that? C'mon Beth, Official Content?? Well I didn't notice anything exceptionally better with streamline, but after about 2 hours I got a truly random CTD. How bout that? First truly Random CTD I can remember having, most of the time if I do get the rare CTD I can recreate it by picking up something, equipping something, entering something. So I can tell you I'm not much enamored with that, and will either give it one more shot, or bag it quickly. I'll have to wait until I can play again, which will be a while. Shadowcran
A few months ago, I was asking the same question in a thread. The exact same. I decided to stick with it. Streamline, at first, seems like it's actually HURTING your game. It truly does. You start seeing "streamsaved" way too often, and the game is, to use your word, choppy. Choppy is a good descriptive word for it,lol. However, after a while, Streamline settles down. It acts choppy and seems to hurt your game in the beginning due to the mod "mapping" each area you venture through. As it maps the area, it seems to keep it inside it's memory for future play without the mod growing in size. (wouldn't THAT be alarming, if a mod grew like a plant the more you used it?). Once it's done these initital mappings, the program ...helps. It doesn't act choppy anymore as it's already mapped out the area and smoothed it over. You can literally run through areas you used to stumble and stutter through. It's definitely a mod for those who plan on playing Oblivion over and over again...like me. If you plan to play it modded up ONCe and then put Oblivion on the shelf to gather dust, then I don't recommend it. But with all the different mods and ALL they contain, it's like playing a completely different game each and every time.
Khet
Wow, so Streamline actually DOES help? I guess the most important question now is what does it actually DO when it does this mapping?
Shadowcran
It smooths out the area so that when you return it prevents the normal stuttering so you proceed through it without interruption.
Antraxx777
Hmm... maybe I'll give it another chance then...
