mikekearn
I can't (or at least won't) argue with your logic. I do think that PC developers are gimping themselves when they try to stop that pirating. I know plenty of people who won't buy any copy-protected games at all, because the anti-piracy measures annoy and restrict them as legitimate users. Consoles are harder to pirate for because a pirated game generally requires a modded console, while any PC user can use a pirated game. Given that copy-protection has yet to stop anyone from pirating a protected game, I think they should just give it up and try to appeal to a broader market by having totally open games, rather than heavily restricted games. I myself played many PC games before consoles became as mainstream as they are today, but got my start playing NES and SNES. So I understand that many PC fans are very die hard, hardcore, loving gamers who will defend their computers harshly, but it really irks me to see consoles being condescended to. vash1985
alot of copies are bought on steam, and some how electronic distrebution is not factored in when they do their little statistic count for PC vs console i would imagin as with most games, the actual stats come down to PC outnumbering console sales
Armadous
I do think that PC developers are gimping themselves when they try to stop that pirating. You hit the nail on the head right there. DRM is a blight on PC gaming. It only hurts legitimate users and pirates get off easy. They use their cracked exes of skip right over the copy protection. Game DRM is a multi-million dollar sink annually. That's money that could be far better spent on the game, instead of punishing us for buying it. Or even lowering the cost of the game. I bet more reasonably priced games would do more to curtail rampant piracy than anything else ever has, which so far would be pretty damn easy. Piracy has done nothing but expand over the years. rpsnow
I think I will add with a side comment here since we are talking about DRM. I just installed F3 on my PC and that bloody securom is stopping it from running, and this is despite the fact that I have removed any (ie clone DVD, ultraiso & nero image) software that may conflict with it. Edit: I just got a working DL of the UK securom fix from their site, I am now playing F3 like everyone else Oh & Garthok!, FYI, every time I tried to run the Fallout3.exe the DVD was accessed & the launcher tried to run with the usual securom emu error. I am guessing that the game forces the launcher to run first time for settting up any GFX options etc. Rich
garthnok
I will give you a little secret. Fallout 3 does not have copy protection (unless you got starforce). To skip copy protection, all you have to do is run the fallout3.exe and not the launcher. Copy protection... gone. I am not sure how the patch is gonna impact that but the original game has NO copy protection, only the launcher has it.
Kruniac
Consoles are a joke, quite simply. No mods, no patches (although this has changed). Consoles are for casual gamers and kids. PCs are for those who spend 18 hours a day playing Darklands, or Civ 4. Gunning down caravans in Fallout 2, or building magic skills in Dungeon Master 2. PCs are for hardcore gamers. The only reason to get a console (I have a PS2 and PS3) is for specific console-only titles, or to avoid sloppy ports to PC (Silent Hill 5)
mikekearn
A post like that screams "troll" to me, Kruniac. I don't know if you meant it that, and I hope you didn't, but just putting down a whole lot people that way are pretty harsh words. What about the people who spend hundreds of hours playing games online? Or who hunt down and find every last secret to a game? My own main character of Oblivion on my Xbox 360 has at least a hundred hours I've spent finishing all the major questlines and doing otherwise meaningless exploring. Simply because you don't like consoles for their lack of mod support or a keyboard and mouse is not reason to insult them, and insinuate that anyone who plays them isn't a real gamer. jaysus
consoles = a party, a bunch of people and some play tekken = good; well super mario world rocked too... but there is honestly nothing that a console does better than a pc... maybe being a communist the only realy preference they have is an easy to use and handle controller so you can sit back on your couch pc = anything goes its just a bitsch to carry around but since laptops are kinda cheap now you can go to any lan you want... probably being an anarchist its like changing ones home where one can do anything for an asylum where only one thing goes at a time... as to sales... theses sales numbers are not the end consumer buys but those of the shops... thus they dont reflect the actual customer will but that of tesco and gamestore... money for beth but if tesco and co wont sell enough beth must pay i assume and they usually dont release that bill openly on their homepageand as said before it doesnt count in electronic sales and seeing how much they crippled their game developing again to appeal to the console market with its 5 brghtly coloured buttons... or 5 brightly black coloured buttons on the very serious psx ;)...whats the point of removing features from an existing engine so it becomes playable on a console? communism!!! the worlds most famous nemesis right after islamic terrorists... THE COMMUNISTIC CONSOLE!!!! RUN!!! :D
JFSOCC
these sales figures are discs sold to retailers, not to the end-user. and are thus skewed. I know that the shop near me has run out of PC disks, but is still providing plenty XboX ones. also, I bought my copy through steam.
Denamic
My PC has more juice than my PS3, so PC it is.Plus, I don't want to play first person games on a controller.Looking around is such a pain with analogue sticks.
