Warspace Extension Discussion

I have been playing Warspace 1.63, in Classic/Marathon mode, which I know is not compatible. I won’t go into detail of the strategic problems, those have already been noted. My problems are with the tactical changes which are out of balance. I think everyone can agree that XCom Vanilla tactical is way too hard in the beginning and way too easy near the end. The game needed a chisel and Warspace 1.63 takes a sledge hammer to XCom.

 

The changes to alien accuracy versus soldier accuracy, the increased soldier weapon damage and the arc thrower in the pistol slot were perfect. As well as the changes to country panic not effecting continent panic. I still think the alien damage is a bit too high but combined with the soldier recovery for 3 weeks; one tick below armor is ridiculous. The manufacturing time for items, although a great idea, is excessive and does not balance out with country item requests. If my hover SHIV has one tick of health left, it takes 19 days to repair. I can make a new one in 9, 5 days if I have advanced construction. The map size and the movement of vanilla game was perfectly balanced in my opinion based on cover locations, changing movement based on light and heavy armor is not balanced. Also Archangel armor as heavy, really?

 

The soldier will, panic and armor needs to be seriously modified. The impression is the heavy armors are available right from the beginning and that’s not the case. I have done early missions where half my squad panics when a soldier is just poisoned. Also I am being hit (and Killed) not being flanked and in full cover. This was not happening before, and will somebody please adjust the game so Ghost armor is available earlier than 2 tactical missions before the finale.

 

But the biggest problem with Warspce1.63 was the “Late tactical game”, which was not tested properly. In order to make the tactical game more of a challenge later in XCom, this was so called “rebalanced”. I am not sure what the trigger was, but this was enabled before I had Plasma weapons or the Fusion launcher even though I did the slingshot missions. Now the alien “Groups” all attack at the same time, not accounting for need to reload. A single blood call by one Muton summons a dozen Mutons and Berserkers on the map at the same time. The game was not designed to do that and when this happens, XCom crashes.

 

I have also had instances where there is no “discovery” phase, and when reaching end turn, Heavy floaters move from a hidden part of the map into flanking positions and immediately open fire. I am not sure if this is a result of the teleport bug but that coupled with Late Tactical game and the heavy penalty for recovering soldiers makes Warspace 1.63 unplayable in my opinion.

I have the latest patched version of XCOM however after installing this mod I get "XCOM:Enemy Unknown has stopped working" pop up. Windows wants to check online for solutions.

 

What should I do?

I had the same problem, update from a working vanilla version of the game.

 

Install the latest Java and .Net updates (stopped getting the above error message after doing this)

Restart Steam in offline mode.

Play the Game.

Awesome mod. I'd like to see some sort of Facebook fan page where I can get mod news easily, pictures, etc.

 

I thought about it, but I don't think the mod is popular enough to make it worth investing time into social media. For now, you can use the mod page for "Warspace News". :)

Just re installed the game and the mod but i still have a problem with the prices on the officers training school when i start in asia. The prices seems normal and the 80% discount is not there, even placed a satalit on all the countrys in asia but the prices was not changed.

 

So is this a problem with the mod or just me?

 

Extra soldier on the squad cost 120( or 140)

and the fast recovery cost about 480.

Please double check the description. It should say the prices are changed to 80% of the original prices, which equals to a 20% discount.

Got to say i'm loving this mod so far, playing classic iron man with this mod on.

 

The difficulty is defiantly ramped up and i'm gonna be in for a long slog with this mode which i'm exceptionally excited about! usually i have been breezing through missions on classic but with this mod on i'm literally scraping to survive and not due to shitty rng lying in favour of the AI :D

 

I lost my entire sqaud on one of the first few abduction missions in... brazil maybe? basically the construction yard level floaters took the high ground 3 stories up in a ruined building and i couldn't deal with them, made a fair few bad choices and suffered for it badly! The fact soliders are injured for so long, has so far been a lot of fun for me.It means i have to rotate my troops and really take care of them as having my best sniper out of action for 60days is painful also means that i'm keeping my strongest troops out of the field and saving them for missions where i really need my A-Team out. Finally on this note i'm actually quite keen to get recruits into my sqauds from the rewards of abduction missions! something i never had any need or interest in doing before :D

 

The ship combat is a lot more fun to and an actual challenge rather than UFO awesome free resources! quite often they now escape and i gotta work hard to shoot them down!

 

All i all I'm loving this mod so far and the actual fights themselves the AI seems to behave in different way to the standard game, they are a lot more aggressive i have to try and stand back a bit and let them run into over watch etc. etc.

 

So yeah AWESOME MOD loving it :) it's s*** like this that makes me proud to be a PC gamer with a strong modding community.
