BlackAlpha
New version 1.50 is out! Check the modpage for details. It contains some minor tweaks and some big new changes too! New easy to use installer! Dead bodies won't disappear anymore. The critically injured will penalty has been lowered, so you no longer need to execute those poor guys who went down in the field. Friendly fire when soldiers panic is now disabled for good. Text descriptions are now in line with the changes of this mod. I also added all the armor info to them, like the movement penalties/advantages and extra item slots, so no need to memorize stuff anymore. Ranks are now renamed to new ones and soldiers are now called operatives. I just didn't like the "rookie/squaddie" atmosphere. I think it feels much better when it's more authentic in that regard. I want it to feel like you are in charge of an elite special forces unit and these changes make it so.
nobody4422
Any plans to incorporate Reaction Fire into this mod? I find it a very nice addition to the tactical game. Anyways keep up the good work. Not only is this providing a great game play experience it is also providing a baseline for other mods to follow and spearheading a lot of the R&D in the community. I think it feels much better when it's more authentic in that regard. Well, they copy-pasted the rank structure straight from the original 1994 game... I think that's the only reason the ranks are named that way. It kinda has the advantage of being less pretentious. But you could always let the user decide if they want the ranks changed or not. meathead013
ok thanks. good move, the psi abilities were too strong imo so as far as you know is there any way to improve psi abilities beyond normal psi promotions? ie. in the old games the more you used a skill the higher the soldiers skills stats went up to a max for that soldier. seems like this game has predefined promotion amounts probably based on a simple rng roll instead of activity amounts, but maybe i missed something
BlackAlpha
ok thanks. good move, the psi abilities were too strong imo Not sure what you mean... so as far as you know is there any way to improve psi abilities beyond normal psi promotions? ie. in the old games the more you used a skill the higher the soldiers skills stats went up to a max for that soldier. seems like this game has predefined promotion amounts probably based on a simple rng roll instead of activity amounts, but maybe i missed something It's not possible at the moment. HEX editing does not allow it, which is what we are stuck with. Edited November 18, 2012 by BlackAlpha
goemonchan
Hi! are you preparing the 1.50HD version as well? And what about the text changes with languages other than english? do they work or conflict?
FMod
Non-English versions should either receive no text changes - they don't read that file - or get their native language reverted to English (very unlikely). Not 100%, but I'm 97% sure it's the former. There's no way for text changes to work with a different language version... I mean, would you have English in the midst of Cantonese, or have it all machine-translated - hard to tell which is worse.
BlackAlpha
Hi! are you preparing the 1.50HD version as well? It's already in the installer. And what about the text changes with languages other than english? do they work or conflict? I assume they ignore the new text changes. I'm guessing most people use English, so for now I don't intend to do other languages, unless people volunteer to help out with that.

FMod
Well, this mod does work on versions other than English, you just don't get text changes. But these changes are pretty minor, nothing game-defining. I'm not sure if BlackAlpha actually knows Italian. You can make a translation yourself, however. To see what's changed, post original int and Warspace int contents here:http://www.diffnow.com/Select "show only difference" in options. Look out for bright purple text. Then open your ITA\Xcomgame.ita file (I think that's how it is called) and make appropriate changes yourself. I think, if you send it, he might put it up as an optional file.
