The Pentadel Second Below Superlevel now showed itself as it has been before being flooded, and damaged, by both water and the Deepgloblackness. Utility netsystems were all functioning well, experimental projects were neatly in place, much data was available in many forms and much of the Superlevel was standard by Predoomsday terms.

Abecidofug was now with the SweetieDukeSA123ABC, WarDukie123ABC and others in the Pentadel First Below Superlevel.

The second air convoy, of airships and long range hubcopters, had arrived from the distant WashingtonWWS in Calibraska and was busily unloading. It was quite bigger, with far more cargo of different kinds, than had been the first one. The Pentadel would have needed expanding except that even with the first air convoy having arrived there was still plenty of room to spare. Soon there were tensions and political changes were taking place within the TechOrderhood.

The IronsOrderhood arose into existence as it, and the bigger TechOrderhood, took up diverse roles. The IronsOrderhood was based in the Pentadel First Below Superlevel where it would continue the task of dealing with the mysteries, in the depths of the OldPentagon, along with other ones arising out of WashingtonEWS.

The IronsPlatoon, not to be confused with any IronsOrderhood platoon, was to be headed by the newly returned IronsMono Pearla Irons and the IronsTriplets Saraa, Shyla and Stella each commanding their own variable sized squad. Pearla had returned from a long mission in the East Washington State outside of the actual city. After meeting with Rowyn Irons, now PrimeElder of the IronsOrderhood, Pearla had sought some long needed rest and even some basic recreation.

Plans were being made for the IronsPlatoon to plunge deeper into the depths of the OldPentagon, into what seemed to be a new section that might one day be called the Pentadel Third Below Superlevel.

The unknowing, semiconsciously resistant, traitors were the PaleOneFamily! They were exonerated quickly, officially, as they began to remember just what data that they had unknowingly sent to the PaleOneThreeNinePyrammax. Semiconsciously they had sabotaged important parts of that flow of data thanks to the subtle influence of the LittleFateFamily. They were ‘PaleOneClones’ as created, and exploited, by one of the most powerful of the subfactions of the secret factional war of the PaleOneThreeNinePyrammax; unfortunately they had only a general idea of what subfaction that was.

PaleOneDad spoke to Rowyn Irons. “Was there ever really a PaleOneDad, PaleOneMum, PaleOneBrother or PaleOneSister of a PaleOneFamily? We have contacted the PaleOneThreeNineQueen herself, a dangerous step to take at any time for she is precarious to gain the notice of. Still, it worked out somewhat. She informed us that her own subfaction has suspected treason by the subfaction of the PaleTwoOriginator who has a habit of producing such as paleclones for reasons both legitimate and illegitimate by the standards of the PaleOneTwoThreePyrammax. Yet this is hardly a strong reason to focus on the PaleTwoOriginator as many subfactions are guilty of the same breakage of PaleOneThreeNineCodammax Laws. There was a time when the PaleOneThreeNineCodammax meant something but since the secret civil war began it has become a joke as have many of our people’s primary institutions.”

They were in the large, new, command chamber in the Pentadel First Below Superlevel. 3Dwallscreens showed views of the WarDukie123ABC, SweetieDukeSA123ABC and others in the now very large chamber that they spent all their time in. The snow creature, a six limbed Catohexi, lay sleepily in a very big cold, snowy, alcove. He had appeared rather suddenly, along with his alcove, and so far nobody seemed to know how, or why, this had taken place. A small polar bear, two SweetieDukies and some petbots were keeping the furry creature company.

The focus, of the command centre, was very much on the growing Pentadel and the exploration, study, of the OldPentagon Superlevels being now very secret, in nature, when it came to Predoomsday, or Prewarday, official documentation. Even secretive semiofficial data did not appear to even show glimpses of what might lay below the Pentadel Second Below Superlevel.

Rowyn spoke. “I will not pretend to understand your people, the Palefolk, or the way you organise. The distorting effects, that the PaleOneThreeNineDemigod PaleSquasishgo caused while here has not made matters easier.”

PaleOneDad nodded. “Yes but those distortions have been cleansed away firstly by the LittleFateMan and then by the LittleFateWoman. They are extremely powerful entities even as LowCelestrials but, when it comes to Noncelestrial realms, they can intervene only in some ways and in a fashion following certain patterns. The Palefolk are hard to understand even by the Palefolk.”

Rowyn spoke again. “Humanity has the same kind of difficulty! There are also the Dimensionites of Solarites, Lightgloites, Blackgloites and Shadowites. Just the sort of addition to make matters even more complicated.”

PaleOneDad responded. “Do not forget the dreaded Undeathites and the Celestialites said to have a subtle, but important, link to the Celestrials of the Celestials. There is a need to retrace your steps back to the departure from WashingtonWWS and perhaps even before that. Why is it that Veralina Irons has now trustworthy when…”

Rowyn looked puzzled. “She has always been at least some what trustworthy.”

PaleOneDad sighed. “Oh, I see. Foolish of me to bring up such an idea. How is your brother doing?”

Rowyn frowned softly. “Which one? Richard the Ironsheart, the new PrimeElder of the TechOrderhood? Ryan the SageSapper who helps run the massive TechOrderhood workshops, manufactories and warehouses? Reginald, the spiritual philosopher, who nobody else can quite work out? Richie, one of the most influential politicians amongst the Techfollowers and the ViceMayor of PentadelTown? There are also three sisters being Rachel, a keen merchant-trader, Rhonda who works with the GaiaOrderhood as an ecoscientist and the black sheep Ruby who is a brothel madam. As you might guess, a few of these people are Techfollowers.”

Richard is now the PrimeElder of the TechOrderhood!?” The PaleOneDad nodded as if to himself. “A good choice. Changes without change. There is the PaleOneGrandmum, a floating sphere, and a PaleOneGranddad, a cube on four legs; they are most curious additions to the PaleOneFamily. They have already begun to help the PaleOneFamily in more than one way but also, through us, others in the Pentadel First Down Below Superlevel. There was a great sweeping change that started back in time, that saw a profound change happening across the MultiWorld. You may have forgotten it.”

Rowyn froze, staring into mid air.

Banjosam suddenly stood there and he spoke. “As you PaleOneFamily are now fully anchored into the current reality, the Irons Family will one day will be the same; then they will remember the way it was before the changes took place. Be patient, PaleOneDad! For now I want to show you something.”

Revolver howitzers hurled shells at the encroaching enemy forces that had attempted to, but failed to, encircle FortPentagon. The tracked armoured howitzer vehicles emptied cylinders that then opened up and down to be speedily reloaded with caseless shell cartridges. Autohowitzers and big automortars added to the fireshow as did multiple rocket launchers and arty cannons. These weapons were not all on-in vehicles but all could be moved out quite quickly.

SpectreOrder agents, and other Techorderlers, had detected the approaching enemy but what really gave away the supposed sneak attack was angry locals both pleased to see the brutal invaders punished while getting well paid to provide valuable information. The enemy forces were also fairly clumsy in their attempts to be stealthy.

True Progressive Union, TPU monstrous humans backed up by TriInstitucorp created monsters, were attempting to help destroy the Demfreefighters but now had also the TechOrderhood to deal with including the IronsideOrder. They had come south with the conviction they would face no real challenge and now they were being hammered because of it.

The ambush trap closed in on the enemies, being mostly full body-armour Hashnels and fewer power armoured Shocknels. With them were refurbished military vehicles found in old, hidden, stockpiles and relatively small numbers of biovat grown big hulknoids, even bigger growlernoids, and biggest crushernoids. They came hard to kill, naturally armoured with quite effective self healing systems but they were generally dumber the bigger they were. Only the smallest, still bulky, smartnoids had any real intelligence as they were in command and both special plus general service-support categories. The information gained was not seen to be the total story thanks partly to the Wastelands Whispernet.

Apart from Ironsidetroopers, in heavy power armour, there were full body-armoured Demfreefighters along with some in light power armour. The fighting was brutal despite the enemy being caught totally by surprise. The far fewer biovatnoids quickly proved to be far more dangerous than the larger number of TPU Troopers but their numbers were too small to swing the battle their way.

Marshal Barris spoke to his three quadruplet brothers using 3D2ways. “The enemy force came over confidentially into the area, assuming that they would meet much less resistance than they did; otherwise this could be a clever decoy force but to who? We have gained no intelligence data on any bigger force. Not even the Spectres have found any hard evidence of such.”

His quadruplet siblings were Brant, Brent and Bravis each of which commanded a separate section of the IronsideOrder.

Brent spoke through the 3D2ways. “There have been whispers of the existence of biovat grown creatures with phase cloaking abilities but they supposedly operate only in small numbers.”

Brant nodded. “Perhaps large enough numbers to smuggle a powerful bomb, or bombs, into a base while the occupants, of the base, are diverted by a decoying attack?”

It was automatic that specialist Ironsideorderlers were constantly on watch against any infiltration but ‘phase cloaking’ could be difficult to detect even by counter phase actions or even psychic psyker activities. The efforts, to find any phase related infiltration, were stepped up but nothing was found.

Even as they were being destroyed, the enemy force retreated until the ambushers ceased to attack what had become a decimated enemy force. Perhaps it had just been a great mistake after all? No assumptions were made.

Banjosam studied the great big, non reversed mirror like, truemirrors that went way beyond human’s 3Dwallscreens in their amazing reflection of reality. Indeed they were almost too accurate as PaleOneDad tried to take in the birth of the MultiWorld in its first crude, and broken, pattern. Even if far from perfected, it was a massive event of incredible expenditures of natural resources of which some were more exotic than others and very few were extremely exotic.

There were 13 original worlds, wrapped in bubbles of multiple forms of protection, untouched by the process and none seemed to belong to the MultiWorld.

Banjosam spoke quietly but PaleOneDad picked him up easily enough. “Those 13 multibubble worlds were, and still are, the last remaining ones of the Terran Empire Federation being all of them alternate earths known as AltTerras or Alternate Terras; they are also known as the Original13 but that term is also used for other matters. What condition, they and their occupants, are in is unknown by most and what I do know I will not speak of.”

PaleOneDad glimpsed bubbled worlds but was not totally certain if they were the ‘Original13 of the TEF as he was starting to think of it as. One surprise, that came to him, was the TEF was somehow linked and known to him.

The scene switched to that of the great sweeping back-forward that changed the MultiWorld and ‘filled in the gaps’ while clarifying the vague. Or at least that is how PaleOneDad considered what he was seeing. As he observed those transformations, PaleOneDad saw something most odd and disturbing as a patch of malignant darkness flashing with red hatred.

Banjosam spoke. “That is the PaleOneThreeNineGod but in a weak form far less powerful than it once was. This weakness plays through its semigod, demigod and other expressions. It needs to be dealt with before it can become much stronger as the PaleOneThreeNineGodhood. The way to do this is to exploit its unusual weaknesses and to gain the support of powerful counter forces.”

PaleOneDad sighed. “There is the LittleFateFamily to help us.”

Banjosam nodded. “Yes despite that, like your ‘family’, the LittleFateFamily was created as unwitting traitors who have been able to semiconsciously able to sabotage their slavery to the PaleOneThreeNineSemigod PaleSquasishaziz that forged them. There is no such thing as the LittleFateFamily, at least not as linked to the MultiWorld. They, like you, have proven that they can serve against the insanity that is the PaleOneThreeNineGodhood. I brought you here on an impulse, for being impulsive is my norm, but it is up to you to both gain something from being here and to discover what that is. This is the True Reflections Chamber being ‘inside’ a special transdimensional realm but through that silvery metallic door, over there, you will find a chamber with that will close up and then reopen to give you access to the chamber of the Dukies.”

Then he was gone, leaving PaleOneDad to keep one quietly observing the truemirrors.

Richard Irons wised up, as did others, and he became FieldMarshal of the expanding IronsideOrder so that now the IronsQuadruplets could focus on commanding field forces as they had originally done. The Ironsideorderlers gained new specialist units and greater flexibility. They needed to do so as soon operations would extend beyond FortPentagon at least as far as the GrandBridge.

PrimeElder Craham replaced Richard Irons as a non Irons Family leader. She at once proved herself to be an excellent choice who had previously had much experience as a HighElder and, before that, a commander. The only other contender was Grendelson who was little respected, or trusted, by most TechElders; it was little surprise that he got nowhere especially as he was under investigation by a Techjudge.

The United Orderhoods, or UniOrder, reformed with it now having the original TechOrderhood and GaiaOrderhood along with the newly formed ClansOrderhood, KeeperOrderhood, IronsOrderhood and SpiritaOrderhood. The first was of tribalclans and related grouping, the second was a rising new orderhood to directly assist Wasteworlders, the IronsOrderhood was now a specialised in dealing with special challenges and the SpiritaOrderhood was difficult to define to what it did but otherwise did much the same as the IronsOrderhood. At ‘top’ was the Orderhoods Council and the CouncilOrder that served its needs.

The IronsPlatoon prepared to make its first attempt to go through a second ‘GrandPlug’ to what could end up being the Pentadel Third Below Superlevel. First would go Stella’s Ironsoperats, then Shyla’s Ironsscouts and last of all would be Sarah’s Ironstroopers. With them would go androids, robots that would include roborobots but also more exotic auxiliaries.

Which was when three men died gruesome deaths!

Three men, one in a lightly armoured robetunic of an administrator and the two others in light power armour, had been hurled with incredible, brutal, force against a basement storeroom wall of smartconcrete. There were no clues that led to a conclusion that humans, or human type tech, had been used to kill them but psykers had found fading traces of the use of dark psychic psyker power. It was not human but its nature was proving hard to define.

One man was Grendalson, in a robetunic, and the other two were well known to be his bodyguards who were both former Techguards dishonourably discharged for reasons of criminal activity. It seemed natural that they end up being hired by him especially as they had been his nephews. They were all members of the Grendalson Family or at least they had been.

Administrator George Grendalson, who would soon have been a former administrator as convict, had brought with him lockboxes of valuable items be it golden fingeringots, precious gems, and four fully charged Ecells. The lockboxes lay untouched, locked, on the floor where most likely the administrator himself had placed them; he would have carried them so as to leave the bodyguards free to use their weapons, not that it had done them any good.

Deputy Sheriff Amanda O’Brien was a dark skinned woman with no hair on her head. She wore light power armour with the visor fully open as she examined the crime scene. Forensics were already investigating as a standard field team. Her job was to try to work out why the administrator, and his bodyguards, had been there in that isolated part of PentadelTown so that they could end up being brutally murdered; she doubted that they had deserved such an ending to their lives and wondered if they would quasiressurect for lately she had been consciously considering such matters.

Three Spiritaorditers paced quietly into the chamber, being from the relatively small SpiritaOrderhood. They wore odd black power armour supposedly designed to deal both with conventional and exotic threats. One came forward while the other two stood back. The one opened up her helmet visor to expose a face with odd scar patterns on one cheek and a just as exotic tattoo on the other.

The nocturnal nocturnman spoke. “Lieutenant Sjeturo Cambrinde from Moontown. I can already tell you what was here, most likely indirectly through an avatar. It was of the PaleOneThreeNineGodhood. That man was a fool if he deigned to gain anything positive from dealing with such forces. I suspect that he failed to keep what was most likely an impossible to keep promise and was overly punished for doing so. The pattern is a familiar one when it comes to the false deity.”

Amanda decided that, despite the hard reputation of the Spiritas, that she liked this woman. “I did not know that the Spiritas existed until the SpiritaOrderhood was created.”

Sjeturo smiled. “You consider such matters when most take our existence for granted. What other matters do you wonder about that others shy away from? Quasiresurrection, for example?”

Amanda nodded, warily. “Yes!”

Then the other woman nodded. “You are awakening as others are doing or have done but most have yet to do so if they ever will do so. Such is a mixed blessing but this is not the time-place to go more deeply into the matter.”

Amanda nodded again, but by reflex action rather than for any real reason. “The corrupt administrator put himself forward to replace Richard Irons as PrimeElder of the TechChapterEWS though he had no chance of success. His campaign was lax.”

The other woman frowned. “He may have always been part of the PaleOneThreeNineCult or at least had strong links with it. The cult following, of the PaleOneThreeNineGodhood, has always worked in most peculiar ways. If he was suddenly pressured heavily, to do the impossible, the lockboxes could have been a futile effort to save his life or he, and his nephews, could have willingly given their lives to save others.”

Amanda did not nod. “Individuals are complicated and the Grendalsons are known to be very loyal to each other. If we are to work together, on this case, we need to talk to those who have been investigating the administrator.”

There was a soft shimmering and the three, formerly dead, men sat being successfully resurrected beyond mere quasiresurrection.

The administrator spoke. “Now having given up on being a criminal, there is some help I can give you. My nephews are also of reformed nature. We met one of the real HighCelestrials who informed us that the LittleFateFamily are now redeemed as Demicelestrials which is like demigods to gods or so I suppose.”

It was interesting news that turned out to have already been passed onto others including the LittleFateFamily.

George Grendalson spoke again. “You were correct in that it was foolish to be part of a bargain to try to become the TechChapterEWS PrimeElder but it was forced upon us by the PaleOneThreeNineGodhood through the PaleOneThreeNineCult after it discovered that I had stolen some of their valuable property. The items, in the lockboxes, are those stolen items plus some bonus gold fingeringots. I had little hope that bribery would work but it was done to divert the malignantly false deity from what has been hidden by the cult Grendalson Family for over 200 years. I think that you, and others, need to meet this one though vital entities have already done so. I will also show you why it was necessary to steal those items.”

61.1[85]

Not all of the Pentadel Second Below Superlevel had been explored so the IronsPlatoon carried out its first mission in the deepest, most isolated, hardest to get to areas where six new type scoutbots had vanished. Scoutbots were fast, well armoured-armed and had other neat tricks while moving in groups of three to support each other.

Stella’s Ironsoperats glided along in stealth power armour as 15 humans plus two dimmed down solarspheres, five dimmed down solarlings and three scoutbots. Suddenly they were joined by PaleOneBrother and Banjosal, twin sister to Banjosam who had not shown herself to the UniOrder for a very long time. Then they were joined by 15 robostealthtors moving quietly and doing various main tasks as big gunners, packers and detectors; they were a type of roborobot.

A dark chamber showed itself after an isolated computerised lock was hacked but nothing was taken for granted. In that chamber dominated, spacewise, big hard metallic storage lockcanisters. Lightly grimy water dripped from the ceiling, falling upon junk piled up against a wall as if it had been swept there.

The heavily armoured lockcanisters were not all locked but those held only ‘semijunk’, that might be of some secondary use through repair or recycling, and even more junk.

Stella held, and examined, a burned out energy cell of curious nature. “I have a bad feeling about this device. It’s giving me mild jitters and I conclude it is a destroyed zerotech type zeroEcell. It will need to be totally destroyed as in disintegrated. The United Orderhoods have encountered some zerotech though nothing as intensive, as dangerous, as a few found datafiles have indicated exist in hidden parts of the Wasteworld.”

PaleOneBrother studied heavily locked containers and after a short time spoke with a tone of caution. “117 undamaged, uncharged, zeroEcells and only 22 more dangerous, part charged, ones in a single big lockcanister along with 23 uncharged zeroEcells. Fascinating form of technology, based on a just as interesting science, but it all needs to be totally eliminated. The GrandPlug below us is twice thicker than the one above us though that is very thick; discovered datafiles gave only limited information about the lower GrandPlug but it is extremely secured in more than one way. I fear that, down there below that second GrandPlug, are both zerotech and horrors caused by the use of them.”

Combining their powers both the PaleOneBrother and solarspheres totally destroyed all of the zeroEcells so that nothing remained of them; it turned out that Banjosal did not need to assist in the process but was there just in case.

A secret door opened after some hacking. The bigger, obvious, powerdoor led to the seeming dead end of a great big metallic and concrete chamber stretching into the distance past massive concrete pillars. The much larger space was empty except for rows of cryogenic capsules that were both inactive and empty; there were 131 of the preserving units designed, it seemed, for humanoids but not necessarily humans.

Inside the secured, secret, chamber was a partly damaged, as if sabotaged, zerogenerator that lacked vital parts to function properly and there were no zeroEcells or a special zeroEcellrack to hold them. There were also minor clues, that is traces, that others had already been there including Undeathite created zombies in power armour adapted for their use.

Banjosal frowned softly. “This could explain why power armoured zombies were being smuggled to the OldPentagon deeper levels; they would have much resistance even to the terrible antilife side effect caused by the use of zerotech. They could be sent below to gather data on conditions there.”
