Fallout 4 Some texture mods will not work at all

Veteran Skyrim modder here trying my hand at modding Fallout 4 and for some odd reason, most texture mods I have will not work. I of course added the required archive invalidation things to my fallout4custom.ini in my Mod Organizer as well as to the ones in My Documents.

It's not an issue with Mod Organizer because I tried to install the texture mods manually and they do not show up in game. I have also reinstalled Fallout 4 three times and all were a no go.

Most texture mods that are not working are loose files which is odd because that's what the bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 is supposed to fix.

Also, first topic, sorry if this is the wrong place.

just to make sure

go here: C:\Users\Your Computer Name\Documents\My Games\Fallout4

Open: Fallout4Custom.ini

inside that you should have this:

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
you need both of them lines for modding.

delete the lines from the Mod Organizer Custom.ini

you only need these lines once, and that should always be the one in Documents or vice versa.

it would not be necessary to have the same setting in 2 different locations. especially since their custom files, which means just like mods, they would most likely override the original game settings, and their could very well be an issue with 2 custom files that have the exact same settings.

but i have no idea with Mod Organizer, i just know that Almost every single program (especially games) Uses documents for their settings.

i have edited my post, i dont know about mod organizer at all

but i do know that every single program uses the Documents in 1 way or another.

should that fail, then likewise Re-Add them back into Mod Organizer Custom.ini, and simultaneously Move Fallout4Custom.ini out of Documents.

C:\Users\Your Computer Name\Documents\My Games\Fallout4

replace the text in bold with the name of you computer. i wrote that text in bold in their, because i copied my own address bar, and replaced the name of my computer with that text as to eliminate any confusion.

replace *Your Computer name* with your windows Login Name, then copy and paste the full address into an address bar, to take you directly to it. where fallout 4.ini files should be.

or alternatively navigate to it.

Note: Address bar in this instance is the full address of any location you see in your computer at the top of the window, you can see the location such as the fallout 4 installation folder, you can actually click on that address bar and copy and paste into it to be directly taken to the location.

Note: Your Computer Name is the actual name you created when you installed windows, its your login name, that you put in that address bar.

if the fallout 4.ini files do not exist in that location (after you have corrected it by replacing the text *your computer name* with your windows login name), then yes that is a problem, and explains why the textures are not loading.

Yeah, so the Documents folder in "C:\Users\My Computer Name\Documents\My Games\Fallout4" doesn't contain anything. The My Games folder and everything else are just sitting in "This PC\Documents".

I wouldn't think that's the issue though since I've never had trouble with New Vegas or Skyrim SE.

I tried using the archive invalidation thing in only the Fallout4Custom.ini, and then only in the MO Custom.ini, and then both together and none of it helped the texture mods work.

The heck??? I've never heard of anybody bypassing where the game puts the "Documents" folder! What kind of magic IS this???

IF that actually works I wanna save my savegames to my external drive!!

Now, that said... this I have to ask: IS the game actually saving games to that custom location folder? If the answer is no, then most likely, the game isn't using that folder the same way that it would the default location. Meaning, that might be your problem. Try this. Create the same folder structure as what Gamewinner posted above. Make a copy of the ini folder [edit] Errrrr, I meant "file" there. [/edit] in there. Test.
