Skolhamarr
How about we break this into the different branches of the Imperial military? They would all be listed under "Legion" but from there we have the Army (foot soldiers), Navy (ships), Coast Guard (ships, but just the coast), Foresters (wilderness), Cavalry (horses), Black Ops (spy stuff), Special Forces (extreme fighting) and the Watch (military police). THE ARMYBasic foot soldiers or archers that make up the bulk of the Legion. When there are battles to be fought, these men are usually the first to arms. They usually travel in squads of 5 to 10 and are seen in forts and outposts across the lands. I would say most squads would consist of: a captain, an archer, and either three swordsmen or two swordsmen and a battlemage. For player missions, probably starting out as a simple grunt with standard issue sword or bow and training to fight in small scale battles with their squad. THE NAVYThey are the ones who brave the high seas, battling enemy navies, transporting troops, escorting diplomats or traders and taking down piracy and other illegal sea operations. For the player, I think I saw out there a mod that you can captain a ship and tell it where to go. Perhaps something similar could happen and you start as a sailor doing tasks for the captain of your ship and eventually become captain of your own ship. THE COAST GUARDLike the real life version, they are restricted to protecting the borders of the empire's heart. Most likely missions would involve defending coastal towns from attackers or investigating smuggling operations. FORESTERSSoldier rangers who protect the wilds and villages in-between the major cities. CAVALRYThe guys you see riding around on horses. Perhaps they could have ranks so the player can eventually become a mounted knight or vassal. BLACK OPSA branch that technically "doesn't exist", they are the eyes and ears of the operations. The stealth based agents steal documents, make bad people go away and learn the weaknesses of the enemy. SPECIAL FORCESThe best of the best of the best (MIB reference). Like the United Stats Marine Corps or the Navy SEALS these guys are considered "insane" by the other soldiers because they are sent on the most extreme missions that can only be accomplished by the most hardened of warriors. THE WATCHI can see these guys being a mix between guards/militia/police. In olden times there was not a distinction between police and military, so these guys would handle taking down gangs, protecting the town from internal threats and keeping an eye out for potential danger outside the walls. I like your idea, but lets keep simple 3- 4 branches is enough. Legion: they are the watch, patrolmen, foresters, coast guard more or less they are homeland deference, Now you could have your different mission within this branch. Mission to help of the homeland. start here serve your time, if you wish to raise throw the ranks here you can. After some time, you become apart of the Professional Army or Security Service Professional army: there is where you could be able to find your cavalry, foot soldier, primitive gunpowder, and everything else relate to war. Elite would be in the higher ranks of this professional army. Navy there is where you could have your Marines, but really that falls under the professional army. You can raise only throw what element you choice either Naval/ Marines Title of Admiral, Army Title General or I just like how Field Marshall sounds. then the last ranks... General of the armed forces maybe, after that point become empire you have that right lol Security Service: Black ops, blades, ect....held that one just like CIA, KGB... what have you with issue of rank exanimis the land should dictate how the fort should be, what element are there to make said fort. Around Anvil you have stone, Bruma you have wood and stone mix, the great forest well you get it.. Bravil Brick, because the mud lol.....
exanimis
Since the idea of actually getting NPC's to operate in any kind of order or ranking is next to impossible (ie, marching in unison) I think the main objective should be getting the Legion out there, meaning more outposts. @ forsaken_epicentre I agree with the architecture being what would be available. I always hated watching a western and seeing a log cabin in the middle of a desert when there wasn't a tree within a hundred miles.
socksftw
May I have permission to use some of these ideas in my mod?
Skolhamarr
I have already said yes, have at it..... go forth an mod..... exanimis you can have rank just very basic.... the NPC you get mission from, after so many you get a new NPC missioner as you move up with rank. Player ranks just total pomp, after so long everything going to come from the elder council anyways...You can not tell me you would like the rank of Admiral in your menu thing.... Mad god, admiral, Arch-mage lol just all pomp... do some voice over have the legion or who every in said place to address you as that...
Lisnpuppy
I think anything that gets done should add not replace any existing Legion things. Otherwise the OOO, Frans, etc would get seriously screwed.
wasder
Well, I think every way this topic seems to have split into are good. On the subject of Blackops I still think invasion of a new world would be quite good. Like maybe your there on your own assasinating and spying, setting up for the invasion. Just a thought. And then asecond part with all this Legion Unit stuff in it for an invasion.
Skolhamarr
there is enough armors floating about the Nexus here, that we could use just picking out the ones and asking if someone could use them... Image of the imperial military complex 1: small out post/ fort near or on a border2: System of forts around the IC3: Fortress to house, standard military4: Naval Dock Yard.... Where:Anvil Admiralty ...Leyawiin, Naval Shipyard 5: Black Ops ( imperial prison HQ)6: Ships of the line, able to be seen from Gold Coast and Topal bay7: 1 ship of the line station off the side of Shivering isle gatwway8: IC water front would be home of the Coast gaurd9: Regional Legionaries, match the environment they happen to patrol ( i believe there is mod already in place)10: Patrols around the IC, Heavy Lancers or Heavier armored legionaries..11: Each city would have its local "knights" just like Cheydinhal knights of the thorn. 12: More legion/black ops/ professional army at the Oblivion gate and battle of Kvatch ( that is prefect thing for that professional army to help with)( personal I love have some heavy troops there, instead of weak kneed legionaries that last about 3 seconds...) those are my thoughts on the image .....
