tataunka346
As the title says. I'm trying to use a build I found but at level 1 with the same tagged skills, SPECIAL, and traits they have 5 more points in every single skill than I do. I thought it might be a mod I'm using but basically all my mods are just cosmetic in nature. The only ones I can think of would be YUP and Unofficial Patch NVSE. Do either of these mods change stat distribution? Anyway, load order in case it helps (I know my load order is a mess but it works for me and I haven't experienced any issues while using it, lol.) M48A5
(I know my load order is a mess but it works for me and I haven't experienced any issues while using it, lol.) And yet here you are with a problem. A proper load order is the first requirement for being able to troubleshoot a problem.
dubiousintent
Please see the 'Vanilla Load Order' entry in the 'First Timer Advice' section; and the 'Common Game Problems' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. * If you have more than one mod that makes any change to the same record or set of records in the vanilla game, then you really need to use a "Merge Patch File" with that collection of mods. Please see the 'Third Rule: The Rule of One' and 'Merge Patch File' sections of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. When in doubt, create a "Merge Patch" file anyway. You say "I'm trying to use a build I found". I don't know of any mod that "reduces" the number of points in tagged skills, SPECIAL, and traits; especially not at "Level 1" before you have earned any "new perks". (However I am not familiar with them all.) Suggest it is more likely the "build" you are trying to emulate pumped them up 5 points instead; perhaps with a mod not in your list or perhaps simply by using a "cheat" tool such as "Fallout NV Cheat Terminal Redux". -Dubious-

At level one with 5 points in a given SPECIAL stat I should have 25 skill total. Instead I'm ending up with 20. I'm definitely thinking it's gotta be YUP or Unofficial Patch NVSE doing it. One of them must change the base stats to be 5 lower as I'm still getting the normal amount raised for each SPECIAL point I put into a stat. Sadly I can't check which one is causing it because my game won't load without the two even on a clean save. :-/
dubiousintent
Not according to the formula given here. With only 5 points in both the related stat and LUCK, you will only get 2+(2*5)+(5/2)= 15. Even with a "tag" on the skill that only gets you to 20. With LUCK maxed out at 10, you only get 17 before adding a "tag" and 22 with one. -Dubious-

I'll have to play around with this a bit more to see what's going on then.
Mktavish
To find what is doing it , Load a suspect .esp into FNV-edit one at a time. Then look to see if they have something under "Game Settings" or just "Settings"And the settings you are looking for will start with "FAVD"Also cross check them with the FNV Master file. Which will be loaded at the top with any other masters the .esp relies on. Then the one that will give you the higher derived skill points. Is what you want to load later in your load order. Or if you don't care about a load order mess , adjust the settings in the .esp you load last. Probably more easily done with the GECK than FNV-edit.But that is just me and my opinion maybe.
