Unsure about a rule

Hi, This may have been asked before. If so I apologize for the inconvenience.

I am currently using a weapon that I downloaded -legally- quite a while ago. It appears in some of my images. And now some people are asking questions about it.

The problem now is, that I can see that it is under review by moderators. Thus I cannot of course link to it.

My question is: Am I allowed to tell the name of the weapon and the author? I have currently written "Weapon currently unavailable" in the caption to my latest pic.

Thank you

Steffen

If it's under review by a moderator, contact a moderator for clarification. If they are looking into it, you really shouldn't be appealing to the masses, so to speak.

They seem to rarely look into these files anymore, as if they're too busy with other things. If there is a reason, I'd rather have something specific than just saying that the file is under moderation - At least knowing if the mod was stolen or content was ripped from a game would easily answer some questions.

Although, I must admit, the way you handle content ripping bans is a bit...unjust. How does the staff know if an asset by a user, or if all assets uploaded by him or her, was illegally ripped from another game if you don't have certain evidence, such as exact textures and/or meshes, or he or she didn't have expressed permission? I liked how LHammonds handled it a few years ago when he banned someone and also presented evidence on how he knew the content was illegally ripped or not. I also remember that all content wasn't immediately put under review, or if it was, but wasn't illegal, it was down for a short time. Now it seems like it's always undetermined.

@Zitch & @Bernt;

a) We only delete mods/ban uploaders when we DO have proof of ripped materials or assets used without permission. We have some rather sophisticated modders on the Staff, and they do comparisons of meshes, UV maps, and other tests to determine the origin of suspicious materials.

b) If a mod has been placed under Review it means that we have sufficient reason to question its validity. In most "prolonged" cases of being under review, we have attempted to communicate with the author(s) and have not received a response. While we could have some sort of automatic "If no reply is received by xx/xx/xxx, your file will be deleted", we prefer not to take that approach.

As zitch correctly noted, we are busy. Therefore, a mod that has been placed "under review pending more information", may stay in that status indefinitely.

As Hickory correctly noted, a PM (not public) request to a member of the Staff about a particular mod might provide the information the OP seeks. :armscrossed:

Why not add someone to the team whose only responsibilities are the tasks related to mods under review, or shift responsibilities around so that the moderators have specific responsibilities instead of sharing them all with each other? I'd say separating content moderation and member moderation into two groups would optimize the tasks, and therefore would make the process easier on everyone.

I refer you to this portion of my post:

No need to take morte aggressive action when we're already removing a questionable mods from public availability until the issues can be resolved appropriately. :armscrossed:

But feel free to PM Dark0ne directly with any concerns/suggestions.
