zone22
Part of the problem with mod authors, especially in skyrim and oblivion is that they have poor mod packaging. This problem can be split into two parts. One file structure. Two .esps/.esms names. File structure is a big issue for any type of mod manager to resolve, but that's not what I'm here to talk about. Often .esps/.esms names are not representative of the mod's actual name or it's an acronym. Therefore, it is difficult to identify mods by looking at esps/.esms names. My proposal is to add a search field for .esp or .esms. That way, users can search using "Immersive Werewolves.esp" to find "Immersive Patrols by Scrabbulor" This would be invaluable to anyone that does not have access to the a authors readme or the full mod title. What do you guys think of this proposal? What other purposes it could serve?
Hickory
Are you suggesting that the search engine scans inside of every mod archive on the Nexus? If you already know the plugin name, chances are that you already know the name of the mod it comes from. Or you should. Having said that, I could see a case for a searchable database of plugin names. Think of the BOSS masterlist, only with extra mod information for each plugin name. If somebody had the spare time to come up with such a thing, that is -- the BOSS masterlist only has plugin names, and that has taken a very long time to put together. zone22
Essentially, yes, that is what I'm suggesting. it wouldn't be all that difficult to implement. Every file is tied to a particular mod and it could be easily indexed during the upload process. Often working with other peoples load orders it becomes frustrating to identify mods.
