Random CTD's / rusty face glitch help?

thank you for your advice, im gonna try it out as soon as possible... although when you said reactivating one mod per game start did you mean one body/face texture mod, or literally every mod? because I don't know if my sanity can take starting f04 200+ without actually playing it.

Before you walk the whole mile, I would advice only to reinstall your texture mods. Chances are, your problem is resolved after that step. It always was in my game.

oh damn that was a huge step in the right direction. i found anothe mod that seemed suspect, so i temporeraly deinstalled 4k face, 8k skin textures, more skin colors. update on the culprit later.

 

edit: and also forgot to mention rusty face is gone

Like Cossayos said, only as the last resort will you have to do the whole trial and error with your load order.

Once you get your texture mod straightened out, and check what's going on in your task manager (btw, if you have any that are using a lot of resources there, and you don't know what those processes are, post a screenshot of the taskmanager, and I'll look them up and translate them for you, so that you can tell if you need it running when you game or not.) One thing I'll warn you of tho, is that antivirus/antimalware programs can really take their toll on your system.

 

I'd recommend starting a new game, without any mods active (aside from your body mods) Just to test. If it works ok without any brown face, then just go ahead and load up your load order, and then do a test again on your regular character.

I don't use install managers myself, so I can't tell you which ones will let you do this. But some of them will let you set up "profiles". Which are lists, of which mods are active, and which ones aren't. You might check to see if your mod manager lets you do this, and set those two different profiles up in advance of trying the testing.

IE- One profile with only your body mod (CBBE) active (for testing) and one profile with your regular load order (for play through testing).

 

IF it comes down to having to do the trial and error, with loading the mods a bit at a time.....

Yeah, it's tedious. It's a pain in the butt. And it takes forever for most of us. It's pretty much a last resort kinda thing. In a case like you have, you can get away with loading 3-5 at a time, and I'll give you some advice on which ones to try and which ones to put to lower priority for testing, IF we need to take it to that level.

 

(You don't want to go through all that, and I don't want to type it out, if neither of us has to do it. LOL ) ;) :D

Ahhhhh ya Ninja'd me! Snuck one in while I was typing my reply! :D

 

That's good! Now we have it narrowed down! Of those three, I'd suspect either the body tex mod, or the face tex mod. But yeah, it's still not a good idea to mix texture mods. Not on something that runs constantly, like your Player Character actor. ;)

turns out it was the face texture. i was so curious about it that i only ran the face texture without the other two and it still had the problem. so using 4k face by trophihunter is a no go for me i guess... :dry: kind of sad since when it worked it looked so good... any way ill try out other face texture mods if you got any suggestions i'll try em out.

 

now I don't know how the last problem I have happens and I cant send screens or links in my messages but my hud sometimes gets really f'd up. like the curser gets a black or dark teal box around it and when it happens in char creation I cant even se the chars face... its hard to explain...

In my opinion it's never a good approach to only use face textures. It's better to use a set of textures for the whole body. If for no other reasons apart from possible conflicts, such as 4K and 8K combined, for the neck/scalp adjustment.

I've got the same problem. I can't post pics either. I'm not sure if there's a weekly/monthly limit or something like that. I'd have to check the stickies.

I'm using a free host called imgbox. https://imgbox.com/ I like them, because they will include a full link that will include a thumbnail of the picture in the post. I just CnP that into my comment.

And they let me choose what size thumbnail, or a fullsize I want to use.

 

 

 

 

 

 

So, for your next problem... wow.

Are you using any UI mods? If so, have they been updated, since the latest Bethesda/Steam update? Do they run from F4se?

I wanna note, that if you're using DEF_UI, that's not a mod that you can just set to inactive. It'll cause wierd issues with your containers and item lists, if you do that.

 

Edit- I'm curious.... Does your computer have a dedicated video card, or does your vid card share memory from your RAM?

ok so I do run def_ui but I never disabled it so it making problems is possible. and the whole video card thing... I have a GeForce rtx 2080 and a AMD Ryzen 5 2600 six-core processor... I hope that answers your question...

Ok, yeah. That definitely answers my question about your video card. I was wondering if you were using a shared memory card, as those can sometimes cause graphics issues when the computer gets jammed for memory. But that's not what is happening here for you. So we can take that off the list of suspects.

 

I'd try disabling your UI mods (not def_ui itself) and try a clean start (fresh character) to see if the problem persists.

If it's still there, if you haven't already, I'd suggest doing a rollback of your fallout 4 to version 138. We can't post the direct links anymore but there's info about it here in some threads about the recent update, and the web can lead you to the reddit pages.
