KingDon28
I have played elder scrolls games since I discovered morrowind, I see a lot of people make a fuss about being Lore friendly. According to the character description in morrowind, Only Nords are gifted with the power of the voice, so apparently skyrim allows other races to use this power because it sells better and has nothing to do with lore at all. This of course makes sense in the real world of making sales, but according to their own lore, Nord's can use the voice as other races have their special abilities, Like argonian's can breathe water and khajiit have stealth and so on, To me, The nerevarine was most definately a dunmer, the hero of cyrodiil apparently imperial, and of course the dragonborn with the power of the voice must be a Nord, According to lore. Of course they will have all other races as playable options to enhance enjoyment to the masses, But we all know deep down that only Nord's have the ability to use the power of the voice. This being said, We need a mod to become high king of skyrim for those of us that stick to lore 100%, I mean really that would be the next step for the dragonborn, Who better to lead skyrim against the dominion than the dragonborn hero sent by the gods to shape tamriel? I see no better candidate other than the Nord Dragonborn.
Enatiomorph
Not really. It says that Nords are inherently gifted with Thu'um magic, from Kyne breathing life into them (and Kyne's daughters teaching the first Nords the Voice). A Dovahkiin however is naturally talented in this, and every race can be Dragonborn. While Beth has contradicted or retroactively changed some lore, this isn't one of those instances. AnkhAscendant
Also, Sheogorath in this is racially Breton if you look him up, and the Hero from Oblivion I believe 'officially' became the new madgod, so I humbly submit that the Hero was a Breton. slainia
i've always wondered about this, since I'm not versed in as much of the lore as i'd like. When the npcs refer to the player being dragonborn, are they referring at all to the players actual lineage? I'm not going to touch on the argonian/kahjitt being dragonborn because that's too complicated for me, but how does that work out? I always kind of figured there was a genetic point to it - lost heirs and all that stuff.
StayFrosty05
From what I understand, the DragonBorn's ability is a direct gift from Akatosh and so given that, I can't see Akatosh having race/species issues and choosing instead to bless the one deemed most promising or worthy regardless of their race/species. @ AnkhAsendant....I to refuse to believe that is what became of my Oblivion Hero...he (a Dunmer) lived to an old age and died as any mortal would....or died in glorious battle....He DID NOT become that.....
nakakita
The Hero of Kvatch could be any species/gender. There's some random line somewhere about them using the wabbajack to take on the appearance of Sheogorath later if it matters. And I personally would have no interest in being High King/Queen, Chamberlain, Patriarch or anything of the sort, whether my character is Nord or not. I'd rather (as I mentioned in another thread) have my Dragonborn use the elder scrolls at a possible time wound in the Imperial City, take Martin's place, and be forgotten. (And hopefully not sent to Sovngarde. That would be a travesty.)

nakakita
Because then Martin is the new Emperor, and the war of succession doesn't happen, and the world is probably a better and happier place? Without the empire completely collapsing? Maybe? Martin will remember you. Sortof. But it's not like anyone is going to really understand what happened. If you go back in time and rewrite history, all the history you made in the future is void, and so, you are forgotten by default. I'm not saying everyone should hold my opinion. It would make the next TES game a lot different anyway, and they wouldn't need to resolve the civil war.

Very good points...I never liked that Martin died and it has crossed my mind how would it have changed things.....Thank you for the answer Nakakita
