Recommended Posts

haha, i just read it myself (8:07am) and im wondering what the hell i was smoking then, i did the post at around 1:30am and then after watching the ring the internet wouldnt log on, so i was paranoid for the rest of the night.

ok, that question was directed at Maquissar although i do respect your opinion malchik, ok, the question really was

"do you choose to avoid "sinning" at all costs, even the slightest bit, so in a way, you could say that you follow the bible with your life and live your life by it?"

sorry if that doesnt make sence, i have an exam in 30 minutes (bloody english THEN american historys exam, my hands gonna be sore tonight)

EDIT - NOTE : if you are wondering why such a type of question, in my opinion maquissar had quite a view on the bible, so i had to ask that question.

I am an inveterate sinner. And I do not choose to live my life by strictly following

the Bible, especially because I do not really believe in the Bible. I am not a

believer, I am not an atheist: I guess you could define me an agnostic, although

I'm not sure I am that either. I do not deny the existance of God; I kind of

believe there is a God, although I don't know what this God would be like. It

might be the Christian God. But maybe it's just an entity without any real form.

Maybe the very laws of nature are our "God".

My post concerning Adam and Eve was merely out of philosophical curiosity;

I happened to read the Genesis for a Medieval English Literature exam, and I

wondered what people, believers and non-believers alike, thought of that. I have

talked, in the past, with some people who believed in every single part

of the Bible literally, and if there were any such people in the fora I was

curious as to how they would have answered my philosophical question. But of

course every opinion is welcome :)

P.S. : Technically, I was born a Catholic Christian. As far as I know, I still might

be one. All I have about religion at the moment are questions, and no real

answers.

ahh ok, thanks for clearing that one up, im doing a research on how religion can affect people, ranging from christianity to buddhism even to satanism (satanism isnt actually what you think it might be).

also i do recall someone on these forums by the name of hundiman (not sure whether he still hangs around here) he took christinaity very seriously.

thanks again.

I remember the GOD thread, it was huge and covered about every diffrent view on why christianity and religion in general was primitive. Does that thread still exist on sombody's hard drive? Could we get a link to it for refrence?

My veiw on Adam and eve; The name adam probaly didn't even exist back then, it didn't, the only names where "uuunngh" and "derrrg!!". People probaly didn't care about being naked for a long time. Probaly as we became smarter and more self aware and the primitive humans died out we started to do what animals do when they get smart, we created things. We can still see monkey's doing cave men type things today, like using sticks as tools.

As far as religions, I've said time and time again with all the diffrent religions and how dedicated people belive them how do you know yours is the right one? A religious person tends to use religion as a cruch as Pergrine mentioned long ago. It serves as a emotional cruch, a mental fill in for things you/we cannot understand (yet), it also serves as mentioned a set of laws to maintian order. We know damn well BS religions have been created to serve these purposes. And if you belive in say... christanity then you look at all other religions as BS. So you must agree there are @ss loads of BS religions, and yet with no proof, a book of fairy tails, and a human desire for somthing more in this existance, you believe.

I am not even close to a agnostic, there is no god at all, just nature and the galaxy, can I provide evidence there is no god? I don't need to, can anyone here provide proof that I am not a super powerful enity from outer space? Go ahead try.

If you can't, then it's true right? There is no reason to belive in god other than to feel better in a delusion.

With that said, hope I didn't make anyone feel bad, here  :P :D there everything is better now.

I start to wonder whether it is me as a Christian who is really as prejudiced as people say I am or if it is other people... <_<

Acrid, you can not believe in God as much as you like, but that doesn't mean that

he doesn't exist. It all depends on your view of God. An elderly man with a

long beard and a nightie? I'll agree with you he is unlikely to exist. But when we

seek God, we actually look for nothing more than some sense into life's apparent

chaos.

You say you believe in Nature, right? Well, Nature doesn't do thing randomly.

Have you ever heard of Fibonacci's sequence, for instance? Nature has a will of

its own, Nature has a plan, and that is God. (By Nature I don't just mean plants

and trees on Earth, I mean the complex system of physical laws valid throughout

the Galaxy.)

As for Heaven and Hell... well, that's a completely different matter ;) But although

I'm agnostic, I am more inclined to believe that there is an entity which created

the universe and its physical laws, rather than believe that the universe is ruled

by chaos and came into existance out of nothing. But I'll agree with you... maybe

it's just because it's easier to accept.

Not every christian is prejudiced, Morgoth. I have met those who believe there is one god who is the same for all religions and that they are only christian because that was how they were introduced to religion. To them it doesn't matter which god you worship so long as you believe in a creator that can save you and mankind.

But most tend to say 'my religion is right and yours is wrong'. Usually they have no idea of the other religion's tenets.

Even more annoying to me are those who are selective about the bits of the bible they accept. It re-inforces Peregrine's statement that if some bits are wrong, how can you believe any of it?

Such godly exhortations as 'vengeance is mine saith the Lord', 'turn the other cheek', 'blessed are the peacemakers' etc. have disappeared from the minds of many! Christ taught forgiveness even at the moment of his crucifixion. You don't find many forgiving so-called christians these days!

It is why I am sure that many of those who profess to be christians don't really believe it themselves! If you are one of the enlightened few, then good for you. I respect that.

I disagree, Maquissar. 'Nature' is fundamentally random.

Nature does not have a plan. What we see are the results of random occurences. In nature everything is possible - however, some outcomes are so unstable that they have a very short lifespan. Some probabilities are vanishingly small. Yet even vanishingly small, the probability is still there.

So, why do we need a divine principle, other than to make ourselves feel better about our insignificance?

Well, maybe you're right, but what makes some outcomes less stable than others?

The laws of physic. Why is that? If I keep asking myself why? there is one

final why I can't give an answer to.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that there is a divine principle. I am just

saying that I don't feel fit to answer the question whether there is a divine principle

or not. I can't say there is no divine principle with the same certainty as

you. I am keen in believing in a generic divine principle, but I'm not sure about

that either. Therefore I tend to be agnostic - that is, I believe that I am not fit

to give a definite answer.

I have thought about the problem of coincidence in the last few days together with some others I know. The result was the following:

Coincidence doesn't exist.

Why? Let us assume that we possess all knowlegde and all wisdom and a super-human-intelligence far beyond our imagination. When this would be true we could just precalculate everything that would happen, because everything happens according to laws, rules and variables. Everything is mathematical and logical at its basis, we are just too stupid to see those basis. If we knew every last variable in the universe, coincidence would cease to exist. No, I am wrong: Coincidence doesn't exist even now. Coincidence is only an imagination of our minds because we do not know yet everything and that is why some things seem to be coincidence, but in fact they are also happening according to complex rules which we do not understand now.

The basis of our universe is logic and rules based on logic. Coincidence is chaos, logic is order. Both can not exist at the same time. Either our universe is based on the principle of coincidence and we wouldn't have any laws, rules and logic would not exist. Or everything is based on logic and order would rule the universe. Because we know that there are laws defining our universe, coincidence can not exist at all. For us maybe, but it is only an imagination based on our not so complete knowledge. For a being with all knowlegde, the imagination of coincidence would cease to exist.

Because our universe is not based on coincidence, but on logic and planing, it is logical to assume that coincidence was not the origin of such a planned universe, but a planned action by a being we couldn't even imagine. This being is generally known as "god", but there are a lot of other names which were given to this being. So I will wipe it from its names and make just a clear definition:

Our universe was created by a allknowing, superhuman being which is purely spiritual (or energetical, it doesn't matter which term you use; spirit is nothing else than intelligent energy). The basis of this plan was logic and thought, we can see this in the laws and the order our universe is based on.
