oc3
Making a player home mod and would like to know what features are "must have". I don't plan on trying to please everyone, but hopefully a large percentage. Which ones should I include that are available as modders resources? Hickory
One of the worst mistakes to make when creating a player home mod is to pander to what other people want -- a popularity cry. You will never, ever please everybody, and what one person wants another will despise. The best advise I can give you is to make it how YOU want it to be, otherwise it just becomes another run-of-the-mill generic home. Make it yours; make it unique. mhahn123
I would have to 2nd on Hickory's comment. Build in what you personally would like to have, and can manage with your current modding skills. Some will like it, others won't...but that's going to be true no matter what you put into it. Chances are you will receive many different comments no matter what direction you take, so just make it your own.
oc3
Thanks to the both of you for the constructive response. I think it's good advice. Is there anything though, if I were to leave it out, that would be condidered a total foul? I'm actually getting sick of working on this mod after 270 plus hours (not all on the house) and I'm wanting to finish the upper floors of the house quickly. I plan on having weapons racks and some place to put armor at a minimum, but I don't really care for doing spell alters, alchemy, etc. Can anyone recommend some preferably automatic weapons racks and armor racks/mannequins? Thanks again,OC3 Cloud Top Falls, Coming Soon....Landscape overhaul, Player Home, mini quest.
Hickory
Anything you want to put in is completely valid. Anything you want to keep out is completely valid. That was my whole point -- nothing should ever be considered a 'total foul'. That kind of thinking is guiding you towards catering for others, not yourself. Rule number one: always make a mod first and foremost for yourself, which means that anything goes. The only time this rule would be invalid is if your are creating a mod FOR somebody else, like a request. If you like it, do it. If you don't... then don't. Lanceor
I recommend Loths Better Weapon Racks. Rather than using fancy scripting or other means, his racks have nice collision meshes so that weapons and shields drop into them nicely and won't fall out. As to what features, almost everyone wants a bed. :D And some storage containers. But house mods are always a compromise - Do you want all the house features in one room and risk it looking too crowded? Or do you space them out nicely to make it look better even though you have to run everywhere to store your stuff?Do you want all your containers labelled to make finding stuff easier, or are generic containers better since not everyone stores the same things that you do?Is it better to have lots of containers to make it more organised with less likelihood of them being too full? Or is it better to have fewer containers so you don't have to rummage through everything?Do you want to go for attractiveness or functionality? For example, a fountain is attractive but not functional, while a wall of chests is very functional but unattractive. What you think is the best compromise isn't what's necessarily the best for everyone. But I'd start by deciding how big I want the space to be and then decide how many features I want to put in without compromising attractiveness too much. Small areas would probably require generic containers, while large spaces can use labelled ones. And lastly, don't forget roleplaying! The Strategy Room in the Castle of the Nine in my Revelation mod is very popular with players despite the fact that it doesn't really do anything!
