SUPER TAMRIEL SAGA

ABOUT THE SUPERCONTINENT OF TAMRIEL BUT ALSO SOME PLACES BEYOND TAMRIEL.

CHANGES:

IMPERIAL means anybody who is an Imperial Citizen, Semicitizen or Demicitizen with the full rights and obligations of one, normally taking on Imperial Culture in at least a large way.

IMPERIAT means a person of the Imperial Grand Island of Imperiarna and the Imperial Grand City, of Imperiarda, that is centered on the island.

Imperial Battlemages: very high ranking battlemages serving the Imperial Court. Often work with the Blades and-or the Mages Guild.

Imperial Investigators: high ranking investigators of security, criminal matters of certain types.

Imperial Sheriffs: law enforcers serving the Empire; Imperial High Sheriff, Imperial Sheriffs, deputies, constables etc.

CYRODILIN means person of Cyrodiil, the Heartland Province of the Septim Empire.

HIGHCORA is an added Province, a great pass between Skyrim and Cyrodiil. Western Highcora is dominated by Ozdane humans and Ozmer Mer while Eastern Highcora is dominated by surviving Ayleid Citystates now accepting imperial rule along with more Ozmer who serve them. Ozmer are actually part Ozdane and part Ayleid.

ORCS are also know as ORCMER because they are of the Mer.

BLACKMARSH is the whole Province but only part of it is in the Empire. Argonia is a semiautonomous region that is at the 'fringe' of the Empire.

AMULET OF KINGS has become the AMULET OF IMPERIA but there is a separate AMULET OF KINGS in the story.

QCouncil is a mysterious, immortal, council of the QElders. There are also QAdivsers, QGuards, QAgents and others serving the QCouncil.

Steammagic machines partly developed from exposed Dwemer secrets. Generally not common but becoming steadily more so. Trains, trams, cranes, tractors, carriages, stagecoaches, coaches, traction-engines, pumps, crawlers, wagons, carts, guns etc.

Quasimagical machines are fairly common such as airships, airboats, wingships, wingboats, ships, boats, trains, trams, catapults, lifterdisks, golems, golemites, skeltons etc.

New Provinces: Highcora, a great pass between Skyrim and Cyrodiil; the Havenlands, a great archipelago off the eastern coast of Tamriel that stretches north-south; Prosperana, a relatively small Province between Cyrodiil and the Imperial BlackMarsh; others to be added.

All chapels are used for all of the Nine Divines except for nine special chapels. Every major Cyrodilin city will have one Chapel of the Nine and one chapel devoted to one of the Divines. There are Nine Imperial Cities in Cyrodiil, not including the Grand Imperial City that is officially not part of Cyrodiil, so this works out nicely. It is Cheydinhal that holds the seat of Cyrodiil's Imperial Provincial Government and it is there that the Imperial Duke and-or Duchess, of Cyrodiil, are based.

HERE STARTS CHAPTER ONE: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

SUPER TAMRIEL SAGA

0001(0001)0001: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

Jadekin awoke in a prison cell in the Imperial City Prison that was on the island of Imperiarna but about two kilometres from the outer RingWall of Imperiarda, the Grand Imperial City. She knew that, officially, she should not be there but that, in truth, she needed to be there; the cell was a fake and was never meant to have prisoners in it. She was shackled with antimagic wrist irons that suppressed arcane magical abilities and was glad that her intrinsic magic was not arcane in nature.

Otherwise she wore brown shorts and a shirt, basic and slightly filthy, typical of common imperial prisoners. Such prisoners would often be sent working in chain-gangs to help fix up the roads and other infrastructure of the island and city. Others were either considered too dangerous to send out or were favored or had simply been overlooked by prison clerks.

The prisoner, in the cell across the way, had been jeering at her, had been trying to take his anger and fear out on her, but she had ignored him. He was a Dunmer named Valen Dreth, a cunning fool who had little wisdom and who had made plenty of powerful enemies.

Now he jeered that somebody was coming to kill Jadekin and Jadekin 'sensed' the hurried, worried approach of soldiers, and the Emperor, along with some others. Jadekin went to the back wall of the cell and stood passively there. A woman officer, of the Bladeguards, came to the cell door and spoke with noticeable anger. “What is this prisoner doing here? This cell is supposed to be kept empty.”

“Must be a mix up in the watch.” An Imperial Prison Guardsman came up to her. “We Guardsmen will try to stop more of the traitors coming through this way.” Next to him came a big, savage looking guard dog who growled at the Dunmer so that Dreth drew way back into his cell.

Captain Elisa Renault turned to the Guardsman. “Have this one killed. He has seen too much!”

So it was that Valen Dreth had his life ended by a pair of Prison Guardsmen. Captain Renault marched into the cell. The big guard dog came over to Jadekin, tail wagging madly and licked her hands. Then she rubbed his head, fussing over him.

Renault shook her head. “Strange, those dogs do not normally behave that way towards anybody but their handlers. His handler got killed by the traitors so you are now his new one, according to him. It will be a shame if we have to kill you. There is something about you that 'says' that you should not be here.”

Jadekin sighed and lifted up her right hand, palm outwards, and it glowed softly. A symbol appeared there. “No, I am just where I should be.” Jadekin lowered her hand as it returned to looking normal.

Renault looked started. “I did not know that the QCouncil was real. I had heard whispers but though them to be a joke.”

The Emperor entered and smiled at Jadekin. “Yes, you are the one that I have seen in my dreams. My time has come. What of my sons, yes they are dead, I know it 'somehow'.”

A male soldier came through, another Bladeguard, and he was Baurus. He was young, handsome, and eager looking. He was also obviously nervous though he tried to hide it. Being close to the Emperor calmed him. The Emperor was a Dragonborn immortal, had lived for centuries. He had instigated the Grand Imperial Reformation soon after being rescued from the treachery of Jagar Tharn, the Imperial Battlemage. The QCouncil had saved the Emperor after he was trapped for ten years.

SUPER TAMRIEL SAGA

0002(0001)0002: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

Jadekin had been the one to save the Emperor back then by entering the bizarre dreaming realm that he had been trapped in. Ten years the Emperor had been there but it had seemed to him to be far longer than that. Yet some other presence had assisted him there, had helped to keep him sane, had comforted and strengthened him. Emperor Uriel Septim VII had come out stronger, wiser, than he had gone in. The changes in him became reflected in the changes instigated by the Grand Imperial Reformation. That was well over a century ago.

The Emperor gave a start and then he laughed softly. “You are the one who saved me from Jagar Tharn, who killed him and who I named the Imperial Champion, giving you also the rank of Imperial Battlemage and the Amulet of the Champion.”

The Amulet of the Champion gave her authority with many people through out the Empire, gave her credibility, though it also marked her as a major enemy to others. It was something she had to use carefully. She pulled down the front of her shirt to show the amulet and exposed much of her bosom in doing so. She wore nothing beneath the shirt, had been given nothing to wear under the shirt. The Emperor only smiled a little more. Then she hid the amulet again. The attractive redhead smiled at him.

Then she showed him the glowing symbol of her hand but he shook his head just a little. Clearly he did not need the extra proof of who, of what, she was. The QCouncil was deeply mysterious in nature, very secretive, but it was known that it was not mortal in nature or even lesser immortal as the Dragonborn were, such as the Emperor.

The Emperor sighed. “I see in the celestial music the patterns indicating my ceasing. My future is unclear beyond that point but I will not be Emperor after today. The death of my sons takes them from inheriting the Dragonthrone, and the Amulet of Imperia, but that is for the best. None of them were suitable to sit upon the Dragonthrone.”

Nobody, who heard those words, was shocked by them. The three sons were a foolish would be world conqueror, a hedonistic fool more interested in his pleasures than in the Empire and a strange fool for ever seeking forbidden knowledge and great magical powers. The late Empress had been loved by the public but those who had actually known her had seen her as the monster that she was; the three sons were not as bad as she was but were not good Emperor material.

Five more Bladeguards came into the cell. All Bladeguards were normally battlemages but two were actually full mages in armor but relying on a wide range of arcane spell-powers along with magestaffs. The magestaffs were sturdy enough to be used as normal fighting staffs.

The Bladeguards accepted that Bobbie would be going with them. They gave her a magical Akaviri longsword, gently curved and with only one sharp side, along with its scabbard. Its former owner had died fighting traitors, after killing over a dozen of them in summoned daedric magical armor of unusual appearance. Jadekin slipped off the wrist irons effortlessly and made them vanish with a sparkling shimmer. Then she made all vanish with a sparkling shimmer, leaving herself naked except for the longsword and a sheaf. None even looked at her except the Emperor smiled softly and Baurus blushed deeply.

The Emperor spoke. “My dear, would you please stop causing Baurus so much embarrassment and quickly summon some proper armor. I 'sense' you use divine magic; it was so the last time. You are powerful but rely more on your wisdom and canniness than on force unless you have to do so. You avoid killing unless you have to do so.”

SUPER TAMRIEL SAGA

0003(0001)0003: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

Jadekin smiled at the Emperor's compliments and summoned forth armor that was, in appearance, of the Bladeguards but which had special qualities, extra tricks, that no Bladeguard armor had. The Amulet of the Champion was now in the open, on her armored chest.

Jadekin spoke. “We must hurry, Sire, but I have a gift for you.” She took out a shining, crystal ring. “Please place it on the middle finger of either hand.”

Uriel did so with out hesitation as if expecting such a thing to happen. He then sighed. “Yes, now I am fully prepared for what is to come. Open the hidden door.”

The hidden door opened with a slight grinding, indicating ancient mechanisms needed oiling. A hallway tunnel was revealed that sloped gently down underground. It vanished from sight. Glowcrystal lamps lit the hallway that was of a kind of Ayleid design not typical of ruined, abandoned, Ayleid cities in most of Cyrodiil and surviving cities in Eastern Highcora.

Just behind the door was a level area and the Emperor strode to this, turned and faced a blank wall of the tunnel. He took the Amulet of Imperia and pressed it gently against the rock wall. It vanished with an odd shimmering, being a 'solid illusion'. A hidden alcove was revealed with a hulking steel golem armed with a steel mace and a steel shield. The Emperor held up the Amulet of Imperia and the golem strode slowly, majestically, out of the alcove.

The golem had concealed a basic looking wooden chest with its body and the Emperor walked to it carefully, placing the Amulet of Imperia against a crystal disk on the front of the container. The chest slid down into the ground for it was a rather nasty trick for the unwary. Hidden behind it had been an alcove and in this was a smaller, more ornate chest. This the Emperor took out and walked out of the bigger alcove holding it.

He spoke. “After Jagar Tharn's treachery, I took some extra precautions that even you Blades did not know about. Now it is time to show you something special.” Then he made the solid illusion, of the fake wall, return to existence.

They went down the hallway tunnel, a Bladeguard closing the secret door of the cell behind them. Yet none of them seemed to assume that the traitors did not know of the door for it had turned out that they had known about so many other deep secrets of the Imperium, the high-core of the Empire.

The dog trotted faithfully beside Jadekin. She did not tell the others that, in truth, the canine was not even a real dog let alone an actual Prison guard dog. The creature was far more deadly than any mortal dog could hope to be.

They came to a large chamber, not abandoned or damaged, but used as a storage area for furniture, rolls of carpets, lidboxes of items, barrels of substances, fittings, and much else of the same. Everything was preserved with clever physical, and basic magical, means. The group would have gone right through the chamber but the Emperor walked to a table and placed the small, elegant chest upon it. Then he placed the Emblem of Imperia against it and the chest clicked open.

Inside were five bracelets, each of dull dark silvery material, but each with a different emblem on the front of it. There was also a metallic wand of dull dark silver but tipped with dull, dark gold at one end. Then there was a silvery chain dotted with very small, very intricate, figurines of many kinds but also six sided dice and other objects.

SUPER TAMRIEL SAGA

0004(0001)0004: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

There were seven Bladeguards, bodyguards to the Emperor, being all battlemages along with the two Blademages, actual mages serving the Blades, the Emperor himself and Jadekin along with her doggy companion.

Uriel look over them all and then he beckoned Renault over. He carefully placed one of the bracelets on her left wrist and sealed it tight, shut, with a soft shimmering. Then he spoke to her. “Powers of summoning, of transportation, of teleportation and others meant for larger groups of soldiers that I see you often leading in the future.”

Obviously pleased, Renault stepped back and Baurus was brought forward. Baurus looked shocked as a second bracelet was placed on his left wrist. The Emperor spoke. “I foresee that you will be very much a soldier who will go out and seek the enemy either alone or in small fighting teams. Here are powers of detection, of duplication, of sneak and others meant for such actions.”

Then the Blademage Chajint and given a bracelet that gave, enhanced, powers of summoning, of shielding, of restoration and some extra tricks.

The fourth to take a bracelet was the Bladeguard Vephan but when the bracelet was placed on his left wrist, he froze and stared into mid air. The Emperor spoke. “Tell me the truth of yourself.”

Vephan spoke. “I was successfully recruited by the MythicDawn Cult, the ones behind the killing of your sons and the attempt to kill you. Others have also been assassinated and assassination attempts have faced such as on Archmage Traven and Imperial Elder Ocato along with Imperial Marshal Gencona. At first I was taken in by the MythicDawn seduction but then I began to have my doubts. So I sent false information to my superiors, those that I knew of for information was kept to a minimum for most individuals. I blended truth and falsehood. I informed them that the escape door is in a fake cell but gave the wrong position for the cell. I deliberately understated the number of Bladeguards that would be protecting the Emperor.”

The Emperor nodded. “You speak truth and though you will have to make amends, you will not be executed. Your future with the Blades is probationary at best. Tell me of the MythicDawn, of who leads it and who it follows.”

Vephan frowned. “There is only so much that I know. Perhaps the cult was getting suspicious of me but they seemed to provide me with decreasing amounts of information. The insane genius, Mankar Cameron, leads the MythicDawn along with his daughter and son. Like him they are Altmer. The MythicDawn follows not one Daedric Prince but three along with four unnamed deities. There is MehrunesDagon, MolagBal and Boethiah that are named.”

Even the Emperor seemed stunned by this announcement. That any Daedric Princes would willingly enter such an alliance was strange enough but that more than one would do so seemed quite impossible. Yet 'something' seemed true about it; the Emperor, who was strong of the ThirdEye, certainly heard only truth in the words.

The Emperor spoke again. “You will wear that bracelet until you have redeemed yourself. What happens after that is up to you. The bracelet will give you useful powers and enhance various spell-powers.”

Vephan woke with a look of shock, of fear, on his face but when he looked around he was obviously surprised to see no hostility. The Emperor had vouched for him and he had fought the enemy.

0005(0001)0005: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

The Emperor gave the last bracelet to Jadekin with out trying to put it onto her. He also gave her the wand and the chain with the small items on it. “You will know what to do with these.”

Then Uriel Septim VII took the chest and touched various gems embedded into the front, in a particular sequence. The interior of the chest glowed briefly and out from it drifted strange shimmering forms that quickly vanished. When he was done, Uriel sighed as if having completed a difficult task or having finally putting closure on something best kept secret. He did not say what had happened and the others did not ask. He passed the chest to Renault and asked her to take it to Jauffre, who would know what to do with it.

Now he spoke. “Now I am completed in my duties as Emperor. I have brought final closure to certain issues that needed closing off for a very long time. Now we must hurry.”

MythicDawn Followers ambushed them not much further on but there were only five of them and they seemed shocked by the number of people protecting the Emperor. Vephan killed one, stabbing her with his longsword. The others fell quickly enough, for searched for clues but they carried nothing of use, including forms of personal identification. Some useful items were taken from them for the group did not know how far they would go with out access to resupply.

After going down into more damaged, neglected area of Ayleid build, and design, they rested in a side chamber, more of a partly open space than a true chamber. Symbolic mathematical symbols adorned the walls along with engineering equations. Towards the ending of the Ayleid control of Cyrodiil, of their enslavement of other peoples of the Province, they had begun to turn against MehrunesDagon that they had formerly followed. The reason for this remained a mystery being lost when freed slaves had smashed and burned many Ayleid artifacts with sheer rage against the brutality of their former slave masters.

Baurus frowned at Vephan. “Those MythicDawn Followers seemed taken aback at the number of Blades that confronted them. Was that your doing?”

“I hope so!” Vephan frowned. “Looking back at my treachery, I remember it being like some kind of waking dream, or should I say waking nightmare?”

Jadekin spoke. “You were mesmerized by a powerful entity. If would have played on a part of you that had doubts about being a Blade loyal to the Emperor. Do not frown so for such doubts are normal even for the most wisely loyal of us. Only the blindly loyal, the fanatical, do not have such doubts. The mesmerization that I 'sense' you speak of does not seem to be something of MehrunesDagon, MolagBal or even Boethiah. It would be something to do with the other 'four'.”

Vephan looked puzzled. “Actually it could be more than just seven deities leading the MythicDawn for another MythicDawn traitor, a Legionary, told me he considered there might be nine such. I did not believe him at the time but soon after he vanished under odd circumstances and I began to wonder if he might be right. I also began to wonder if the MythicDawn was the only organized group of traitors that were part of what seemed like an Empire wide conspiracy. Oh, yes, Kvatch may well be in danger. I am remembering information that was... suppressed somehow. The enemy wish to send an army, of some kind, against Kvatch, to smash it. The city is already heavily infiltrated with traitors and other individuals have been mesmerized as I was. I was never involved directly with the part of the plan involving Kvatch and I can only relate scattered whispers and other bits of information that I managed to pick up. Yes, Kvatch is in extreme danger as is a young man called Martin but also something else.”

0006(0001)0006: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

Vephan could not remember what that other 'thing' was.

The danger had far from passed. They continued onwards with great care, threading through ancient Ayleid areas that were of mixed states of repair and use. Artisans, and less skilled workers, had fixed up some areas. Locked off areas were storage chambers full of imperial flotsam. Some doors were of heavy metal armor and had powerful divine wards on them. The group steered clear of them. The Empire had far too many secrets, some of them being quite dark.

They came across eleven dead Imperial City Guardsmen, along with eight twelve dead MythicDawn Followers whose summoned daedric armor, and arms, had vanished. It had been a truly savage battle and signs indicated subdaedra, daedric monsters of less intelligence, had been summoned by MythicDawn Followers. Some MythicDawners had survived but at least two of those had limped away, leaving spots of blood behind on the ground.

The Emperor suddenly halted and cursed softly, surprising many there for the Emperor was not normally one to swear. Then the Emperor spoke. “Fools, deluded fools, what have they done? My three legitimate sons have been resurrected in different ways. Why? How? For what reason would such evil stupidity be carried out?”

Jadekin spoke to Uriel. “Sire, can you explain further?”

Uriel shook his head. “Not much knowledge comes to me clearly. One has become of the undead, one has become of the unlifen and one has apparently become alive again but not naturally. The undead one is the dabbler in forbidden knowledge, the unlifen is the would be conqueror of the world and the falsely living one is the hedonist driven to sate every desire. Somebody must save the Imperial City of Kvatch, must save my illegitimate son Martin and what ever else needs saving there.”

Jadekin spoke. “Another is already in Kvatch trying to warn the people there of the coming threat. She has assistance with her and at least some are listening. Is there some kind of link between your resurrected legitimate sons and Kvatch?”

The Emperor sighed. “I do not know! My time is passing as a mortal. It is up to you people, and other mortals, to work out such things from now on. The enemy is coming from all sides. Prepare to fight.”

The first attack was that a failure. The Imperial City Guardsmen shuddered, as if some force was trying to turn them into zombies, but the bodies abruptly stopped moving. Divine intervention, through faith and emblems, had protected the bodies. Then they were standing up but their divine emblems were glowing. They were healed and would fight with enhanced strength, speed and endurance but they could only live for a full day at most. The Nine Divines had given them a second chance to fight, a chance to help protect the Emperor.

For the Nine Divines to intervene, in such an amazing manner, indicated that the Empire faced a great threat and not just a mortal one.

Then came the first swarm of the enemy in the form of summoned subdaedra, that is firepulse shooting scamps who also used long retractable claws, and fangs, at closer quarters, and dinosaur like clannfears stabbing with horns and smashing, biting with great mouths full of big teeth. It was not long before the first dremora came, savage fighting humanoids in magical daedric armor with magical daedric weapons such as swords and shields or crossbows or even greatswords in both hands.

SUPER TAMRIEL SAGA

0007(0001)0007: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE CEASING OF THE EMPEROR

From another direction came MythicDawners with summoned daedric magical armor and arms. They charged with summoned clannfears and scamps. There were also scards that were like scamps but yellowish brown in color and who spat sparkpulses of lightening instead of firepulses. The MythicDawners wore special amulets that would have the other lesser daedra not attack them.

The two Blademages summoned forth a pair of trolls who went rushing into battle. The steel golem did the same. As Dragonborn, the Emperor hurled bolts of energy. Blades began to move into battle as did the temporary resurrected Guardsmen. The canine became surrounded by elemental energies sparkling and flickering. Jadekin summoned forth three very small, but deadly, elemental dragons.

The fighting was savage, brutal and with no mercy given. The enemy seemed to be surprised by the number, and power, of the defenders. Vephan's deceptions seemed to have assisted greatly against the enemy but why would the MythicDawn believe so much in his word that it would influence their plans so greatly?

Magic projectiles were hurled along with crossbow bolts, swords slashed through the air, weapons smashed against shields and there were the grunts, cries and other sounds of combat. The magical canine flew into scamps, scards and clannfears to hurl them in all directions. The great steel golem smashed enemies again and again. A Bladeguard fell. A dremora fell. A clannfear was hurled, dead, through the air and vanished because it was summoned.

When the Emperor was struck down it was by a figure that emerged out of mid air. Mankar Cameron laughed and thrust his dagger into the back of Uriel Septim VII. Then he vanished away even as Uriel collapsed towards the floor. Thus he failed to see the Emperor vanish with a strange shimmering effect to leave behind all of his gear to fall in a heap to the floor.

At once the enemy began to withdraw, the fighting died away, and the surviving Guardsmen shimmered for a moment. They had been rewarded with prolonged resurrections of nine years because of their great courage. The dog lost her energy fields. The big steel golem stood next to Jadekin. Summoned creatures vanished.

Baurus frowned. “What happened to the Emperor? Was he saved? Is he alive somewhere?”

Jadekin responded. “The Emperor has died but he is still with us, with the Empire, and will assist us with his wisdom, knowledge, experience and powers. There was much more to the Emperor than the vast majority of people knew. I must take the Amulet of Imperia to Jauffre at the Weynon Priory, close to the Imperial City of Chorral. Others may come with me if they wish to do so.”

The Imperial City Guardsmen would go back to their barracks, at least for the moment. Something had changed fundamentally with them and so had their destinies.

The Blades would go to the Blades' Emperor Guardian Temple, a fortress next to the Grand Imperial Palace and also close to the WhiteGoldTower.

Jadekin would do as she said she would but would make a detour first to somewhere she had to go to.

They were all in a kind of shock. Too much had happened too quickly. The world had exploded into danger and violence. Many normal dramatic events had taken place but also many stranger ones. People needed to rest, to work things through and to make decisions.

HERE STARTS CHAPTER TWO: THE SAVING OF MARTIN

SUPER TAMRIEL SAGA

0008(0002)0001: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: THE SAVING OF MARTIN

Jadestone was like a male version of Jadekin, was dressed as a blank-shield mercenary, that is one with out oath, contract or subcontract. His shield was blank of any symbol, no matter how temporary. Other mercenaries moved with him, enough to form at least four platoons and one smaller squad. They were all battlemages though some had more magic-powers than others, there were big war-hounds, there were some big packdogs and even a packmule. They had the look, and feel, of very tough and experienced warriors of various peoples, not all of them human.

The Kvatch Guard Commander stood close to the very big outer wall to the city and also to a great big tower that was also where some Guardsmen rested, fed, while on long stints of guard duty. He looked pensive because he was one of the few individuals in the city who seemed to detect coming danger and to be willing to do something about it. He, and others, had been both seeking out traitors and trying to prepare the city for a big attack. The Count, Countess, City Governor and a few others did not even seem to want to know about any possible danger.

It was getting later in the day and darkness was threatening to fall. Jadestone knew that when midnight came, so would a large scale attack on the city. The nature of that attack was only partly known, the knowledge coming from a variety of sources, some of them being rather exotic. There had been a spate of nightmares amongst local people that had been surprisingly similar to each other, all consisting of a great grotesque creature-machine attacking the city's main gate after coming out of a huge OblivionGate that had formed not far from the gate. There had been swarms of hordes of zombies, of skeltors like leathery covered skeletons, of ghostly wraiths, distorted bat like vamprires, vampires warriors in necromancic magical armor and other undead monsters. Seers had picked up visions of the same and some more exotic magic working mages had also picked up indicators of coming attack.

The leadership, and many other people in the city, seemed bizarrely oblivious to what was going on. The Count had gone as far as making surprise announcements that everything was wonderful with the city, everybody was safe. He did so with out apparent reason for doing so and his speeches were whispered to be oddly removed, at times close to confusing. Jadestone was not the only one who quickly realized that a very powerful mesmerization spell had been cast over the whole metropolis and its inhabitants. Except that the powerful, dark magic seemed to have some odd effects on a fair sized minority of people.

Savlian Matius, Marshal of the Kvatch Guard, was the one waiting to meet Jadestone. He was in full Guardsman armor and with swords but no shield. Around him were about a dozen other Guardsmen but not the larger number that Jadestone had hoped to find waiting for him.

Savlian was noticeably angry and it showed in his voice. “You must be Marshal Jadestone, from the description give to me. As you can see I was able to only gather about a quarter of the soldiers I hoped to. Count Ormellius Goldwine insisted that many Guardsmen be sent to private celebrations he is holding tonight where most of the important people of the city will be. That is a nice juicy target set up for any mass assassination to cut down most of our decision makers. This is most amazingly incredible behavior.”

Jadestone shook his head. “Not when an extremely powerful, dark psychic-magic spell is being used to mesmerize most of the city's people into being unable to detect danger, let alone to defend themselves. Except that many thousands have become panicky, and extreme response to the spell, and have fled into the Kvatch Undercity taking what they can with them. I have made contact with people that I know in Kvatch. Some of them are organizing those folk for survival and defense.”
