0056(0000)0008: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: BACKGROUND EVENTS

Dibella spoke then, beautiful and graceful also with one exposed breast with her toga like gown that swept down to the floor, covering her feet. “Secunda, Masser, are not the real corpse of Lorkan but were greatly effected by his undoing. Was he betrayed by the other Aedra Divines? No, he had done much that was wrong and had been going criminally insane for a very long time. At the last moment the remaining sanity, and wisdom, in Lorkan went along with his unmaking, his 'death'. It was as if he wanted to be at peace, which he had not been for a very very long time.”

She frowned. “Lorkan used deceit to help cause the creation of Mundus and that negativity of purpose, of action, had the consequences of creating the TwistedGod and the AntiDivines that serve him-her, though reluctantly, unlike his own Twisted Followers. The Grand Daedra arose as a natural balancing act between the Aedra Divines and the TwistedGod, along with the AntiDivines. Then there is the AllDivine that arose, that we Divines have never really understood. The AllDivine is the Divine of the Divines and is as mysterious to us as we tend to be to mortals.”

TommiTomo suddenly spoke up. “Forgive me for changing subjects but the MythicDawn as broken away from the alliance it had formed with others. It is led by five Grand Daedra now and four others. As yet only the three original Grand Daedra are known being MehrunesDagon, MolagBal and Boethiah. One of the others is Sithis and the Dark Brotherhood is now at war with the Empire and others. A number of important Imperial, and other, individuals have been assassinated across Tamriel and not just in the Empire.”

It was said that Sithis was neither Aedra or Daedra but had existed before both along with his counter part Anu. While Sithis represented evil and the 'void', Anu was of the light, of goodness. It was said that when Anu and Sithis battled, that their spilled blood mixed to form the Aedra but that only the spilled blood of Sithis created the Daedra. Far from all agreed that this had actually happened.

To join an alliance, to take sides, to fight for some 'cause' was not really in the nature of Sithis as he was commonly known of. All there were surprised, though some far more than others. TommiTomo seemed to almost take it in his stride.

0057(0009)0001: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: MARTIN'S FIRST CHALLENGES!

“The Dragonfires are dimming and there is need for you to take the Amulet of Imperia to the Temple of the One in Imperiarda to strengthen them.” ArchPriest Caugajin showed clearly but with some grayness in the great crystalglobe of the crystal-communicator.

The ArchPriest was in the Grand Imperial City, at the Imperial Templedom that was the administrative, clerical headquarters of the Divine Orders. Caugajin was a clever, capable man but tended to be abrupt and disliked by many people. He also had many strong beliefs that put him at odds with others both inside and outside of the Divine Orders.

Martin was Emperor and yet did not get the feeling that Caugajin had any real respect for him. He sat in a good copy of the Dragonthrone that had none of the special powers and nature of the real Dragonthrone that was to be found in the WhiteGoldTower. The Amulet of Imperia, that could only be worn by the Dragonborn, and a very small number of others, clearly showed at his chest. He wore Imperial Robes.

Martin spoke quietly but loud enough to be easily heard by the ArchPriest. “Do you normally speak to your Emperor in such a fashion? Did you speak to my father, Uriel, in such a manner? Would you like for me to have you beheaded?”

Taken by surprise, Caugajin sat back with a look of shock on his face and then he smiled in what he probably thought was a charming manner; it was not! “Sire, please forgive me for my impertinence. The events of the last few days have proven to be rather stressing.”

Martin nodded. “So stressing, ArchPriest, that you have decided to retire from your position. The growing controversies over your dealings with others, along with your rather particular views, have begun to concern even those of the Divine Heights. The Amulet of Divine Faith will be passed onto one chosen by the Imperial Elders Council, the High Divine Council and by myself. Your chosen successor had proven not to be a worthy candidate, partly because you attempted to have him succeed you while side stepping ancient official procedures and unofficial protocols.”

“Then there are your beliefs that only divine magic should be allowed in the Empire, that all Daedric worship should be brutally crushed, that only men should serve in the upper most ranks of the Templedom, that the worship of Talos should be banned, that only humans should be allowed to join the Divine Orders and that the ArchPriest should have more authority than the Emperor; none of these are acceptable. You will be retired from your position within the next twenty-four hours. Do not concern yourself with the details for they have already been taken care of.”

The communications ended and Martin sighed. He had not truly wished to be so harsh with the ArchPriest except that Caugajin had refused to change his ways, had refused to take strong hints, even from Emperor Uriel Septim VII, that he was quickly heading towards disaster. It was bad enough that Caugajin had thought himself above the rules, regulations and traditions of the Templedom of the Divines, but he had insisted on loudly pushing his beliefs in public as well.

Martin turned to Jauffre, Grand Master of the Blades. “How goes the hunt for the MythicDawn and the Dark Brotherhood?”

Jauffre frowned. “We picked up some former Dark Brotherhood Assassins who left because of what they call the 'bizarre changes' taking place within the Dark Brotherhood. Many powerful individuals, formerly high in the ranks, have vanished and nobody can seem to contact the NightMother.”

0058(0009)0002: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: MARTIN'S FIRST CHALLENGES!

Martin sighed. “We need to extend the Imperial Amnesty, as already given to MythicDawn who willingly surrender, to Dark Brotherhood members that do the same. I will speak soon with the Imperial Elders Council on this matter. What of my resurrected half brothers?”

Jauffre responded, gravely. “Their castle estates were found abandoned, stripped of many resources and each had dead servants, guards and others who had died horrible, strange deaths. Geldall, Enman and Ebel have vanished, along with many who had been with them. Or at least the things, that were your half brothers, have vanished.”

Martin did not appear to be surprised. “They had no good reason to stay at the estates and every good reason to abandon them. After they have been investigated, I would inherit those estates, would I not?”

The Imperial Elder Hazta Yrane, of the Imperial Elder Council, responded. “Yes, you will inherit the properties and other legal assets of your half-brothers and father. That is their private assets, of course. You already have a large private fortune. This is considered proper for an Emperor, or Empress, so I hope you do you plan to give it all away. Your fortune supports the livelihoods of many thousands of people.”

Martin steepled his fingers, in a fashion that his father had often done. “I have no such rash plans! I wish to support some of the ideas of the Constitutionalist Movement such as Imperial Government sponsored commoner schools. At least half of the Empire's population can not read or write. This is not acceptable. Teaching the common people reading, writing, basic maths, general history and some other knowledge will not only help them but help meet the Empire's rising demand for a higher skilled workforce. The Traditionalists' stubborn resistance to any form of reform is damaging the Empire.”

Hazta nodded. “You need the support of the Traditionalists. Can these reforms not wait until a more fortunate moment?”

Martin smiled at the Imperial Elder. “There will always be a 'good reason' to delay difficult reforms. Always! The reform process will need to be carried out carefully. I would put some of my own wealth into the reform programs. What has been happening with my father's Grand Imperial Reformation?”

Hazta sighed. “Many sections of Imperial Highways have been upgraded or repaired. Over a hundred major bridges have been fixed up along with over five hundred secondary bridges. Fifteen Towerforts have been fixed and are being used by the Imperial Guard while another twenty-four are being fixed up. Another eight are still being cleared of various threats, especially in the underground areas. Twelve smaller Ayleid cities have been cleared out and are being prepared for use as storage centres, refugee centres and military posts. The expansion, upgrading, of the Anvil and Leyawiin Harbors continues including the addition of new coastal fortifications.”

Martin frowned softly at the Imperial Elder. “You act as if these reforms might not be so important.”

Hazta shrugged. “The Empire has gotten on fine with out them. Public spending has been kept to a healthy minimum. Taxation of the important peoples has been kept to a minimum. Large tributes have been taken from the aristocracy, from the Guild Elites, from others of wealth. The Emperor gave, himself, a large tribute of his own wealth to the Grand Imperial Reformation. Perhaps the reformation has far enough. Perhaps it is time to give back to those who have given so much to the Empire. A dropping in tribute and taxation of 20% would be a good start and gain you much support.”

The new Emperor unsteepled his fingers and frowned at Hazta. “You were not sent here by the Imperial Elders Council. You have lost favor with them and will lose your position with them thanks to concerns over claims over your growing links with the wealthy, powerful elites and of you taking bribes in order to influence the Imperium in favor of those elites. Imperial High Elder Ocato ordered you to stay away from myself. Instead you came here with a large entourage including many soldiers.”

Hazta smiled with apparent innocence but beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. “One must take extra precautions during such difficult times. Your Blades stopped any of the mercenaries from coming into Cloud Ruler Temple, which is rather unfortunate. I do not know why you distrust them so.”

Jauffre spoke. “Where do these soldiers come from? None of their faces are known to any of the Blades though they claim to be Fighters Guild Mercenaries. This is not true. The way they move indicates something very wrong with that idea. They are also concealed head to toe in armor. Their weapons are not typical of Cyrodiil or Highcora or Skyrim or any of the more familiar Imperial Provinces.”

Jadekin stepped forward and it seemed she was suddenly very noticeable when she had seemed almost invisible before. She frowned. “They are Thalmor Mer from the Summerset Isles. The Thalmor consider themselves to be the 'True Altmer', They consider themselves better than all other Mer Peoples though they have much respect for the Altmer. They consider all nonMer Peoples to be inferior, to be tool using, clothes wearing, beasts. I would say that they bribed Hazta to come here and help them get into the fortress so they could treacherously attack the Blades and kill the Emperor. They wish the Empire to be weakened so that they can further their plans to rule the whole of Tamriel one day.”

Jauffre smiled unpleasantly. “A combined force of Bladeguards, Bladeknights and JadeKnights has dealt with the Thalmor. No quarter was asked for and none was given. We took the Thalmor by surprise but they are excellent fighters and had battlemages so we lost a few good people. We killed many more than we lost and the Thalmor will have squandered many of their best with this overly cunning plan of a kind so typical of the Thalmor.”

Martin frowned. “We are a long way from the Summerset Isles.”

Jadekin nodded. “Yes, some other faction brought the Thalmor here using some kind of powerful, dark, magic that had left impressions of its use on the Thalmor and also Hazta here. Jauffre, and I, could question the Imperial Elder more but I doubt that he knows much of use so I say just kill him.”

Hazta lost his calm and cried out. “I do know something. They thought they had me nicely blindfolded but I used a very basic, subtle power from a very old magical artifact. It allowed me to see, though in a poor fashion, through the blindfold and even through my own eyelids. I used tricks, like riding me in circles, to try to confuse me about where I was going. They stuck me in a cart for a time but I carefully listened to surrounding noises.” He smiled. “If I tell you more, will you let me live?” Then he noted the expressions of the people around himself, gulped, and spoke. “They took me to the city of Baanecosa, a strange place with a crazy reputation famous for working with soulstones. We went down into the ground, through many tunnels and then came to a strange... gate of some kind. Like, but not like, an OblivionGate. I saw an excellent sketch, of an OblivionGate, once.” The man shrugged. “Okay, I used to be with the MythicDawn but they got evil even by my standards and I abandoned them. They were the ones who set me up as an Imperial Elder because they thought they could trust me but I can not even trust me, not since....”

0060(0009)0003: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: MARTIN'S FIRST CHALLENGES!

Hazta suddenly clutched at his head, gave a strange horrible noise and fell writhing to the floor. Then he was dead. Second later the creature rose out of his back, ripping up out of his body, a gnarled muscular thing of scaled leathery skin. It was not very large, being about twenty-five centimetres long, but it looked extremely dangerous.

Jauffre went to draw his blade and kill it but Jadekin stopped him.

The creature turned is ugly head and looked at the Emperor. “That amnesty you spoke of earlier, does it include simulaclones who have woken up to their true nature and who have become free from their enslavers?”

Martin nodded. “It includes all but you would be better to go through a testing-transformation, if the AllDivine will grant you one.”

The creature looked dubious, somehow, even with its alien face but then nodded. “We are taught to fear such but since everything else, I was taught, turned out to be a lie there is nothing to lose.”

Some moments later the more attractive fur covered creature was perched on the throne arm with the Emperor having his back scratched by the imperial monarch. Furgusta was his new name and he would be pet-companion but also bodyguard to the Emperor. Around his neck was an elegant collar and on that an emblem of the AllDivine that would help protect him from his former masters.

Hazta stood there looking very puzzled. He was enhanced of mind, body and spirit. He looked youthful as an Imperiat in divine magical armor but he was armed with only a knife. Instead he had a portable art kit in a carry-case. Hazta had been a much better acting person when younger, had saved a few lives, had done wonderfully good art works to sell at reasonable rates. Then he had met one Mankar Cameron, who wanted a special set of portraits made. But soon Hazta was sinking into the madness of the MythicDawn, was turning dark, was doing bizarre paintings for the leader of the MythicDawn while often earning little or nothing in return for his efforts. Hazta was most shocked that he had been given a second chance, a chance he had not considered that he deserved.

Hazta spoke with obvious troubled emotions. “I drew for Mankar Cameron aspects of what he called his Paradise that he would create one day, with the help of some Grand Daedra and powerful daedric magic. Those art works appalled me for the paint was not normal, was horribly tainted, and so were the brushes, the canvases and the mad visions I took the views from. They were not just of daedric magic but very dark daedric magic. Until then I did not know that there were different grades of daedric magic from off white to darkest of grays and yet neither white or black as in other forms of magic. It was then I learned that Mankar Cameron was not only a lover with his own daughter, Ruma Cameron, but that she had begotten four children to him along with a child to her brother, Raven Cameron. All those children were born monstrous and powerful but I do not know what happened to them.”

Hazta went off to sleep. He would end up living in the fortified settlement of Cloud Ruler Town that was semiautonomous an outer part of the Cloud Ruler Temple. In the town lived camp followers and others who could not, and-or would not, live in the temple fortress proper.

When the dead Thalmor bodies were more deeply investigated, partly because Jadekin 'sensed' something odd about them, it turned out that they were ingenious fakes, were simulaclones as Furgusta had been. Somebody had been trying to set up the Thalmor and the Thalmor were very a very good choice because trying to kill a new Emperor was something they would try to do if they could.

0061(0009)0004: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: MARTIN'S FIRST CHALLENGES!

Once a simulaclone had gotten very close to Emperor Uriel Septum VII and once another had gotten very close to Emperor Martin Septim. That second one had been inside a man who had become an Imperial Elder. Just what was happening, and what was behind the simulaclones, that they could so deeply infiltrate even the deeper secrets of the Empire? What relationship did the simulaclones have with the MythicDawn and those behind the MythicDawn?

Martin went off to take a much needed sleep, as did others. Soon a series of meetings, of research sessions, of training and other important activities would involve the Emperor and his assistants and advisers along with others who had come, or were coming, to work with him.

Waygates were being either more active, or reactivated, across Tamriel along with Wayshrines and Wayglobes. These were based in places of current, or former, divine worship but only known ones under supervision were activated. Waygates could take lifeforms, or things, in mere minutes from place to place but took much divine energy to use. Between any two linked Waygates formed a short Waygateway that had to be traveled through like a transdimensional tunnel. There were the Waypaths, Wayzones and Waycubes but as yet the Divines did not seem inclined to reactivate any of them, they all being long deactivated and firmly locked. Most people did not even know such existed.

Jadekin returned to where Jadestone was, that is in Kvatch helping to explore, to chart, and carry out other important tasks in the ArchDome.

0062(0010)0001: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: ARCHDOME SURPRISES!

It was a big surprise when Jadekin, and Jadestone, found the great domechamber in the ArchDome great underground cylinder area. This was even bigger than the one that held the pyramid-arm machine, as it had come to be called. This one held a great cylinder at its center, vertical and with a shallow spiral rampway running up it from bottom to top. There were hundreds of vertical capsules and each held a humanoid be it a Mer, a human, an orc or some other. Most were either Ayleid or human slaves of Cyrodilin kind. There were Dwemer, Altmer, Bosmer, Nords, Redguards, Ozdanes, Ozmer, Orcmer (orcs), Argonians (lizardfolk), Khajiit (catfolk), winged aviaviins and some folk thought long gone. They were the Manmer, a people of officially recognized human and Mer mixture as were the Ozmer of Ozdanes and Ayleid mixture.

They were checked and were not simulaclones, doppelgangers or other kinds of fakes. They were genuine and they were ancient but they had suffered some damage during storage.

When the AllDivine intervened it was considered rare but it happened then and there. Light glowed through the cylinder, healing all, enhancing all, and waking all of them. It was a mad rush to bring many people to the domechamber to help the awakened. Healers, advisers, security people, workers, scribes, scholars, guards and many others came.

There were 1,000 capsules and one thousand people awoke, rejuvenated and prepared by the AllDivine to better face a new existence. The news of their awakening went through out the city as did other news about the opening up of the ArchDome, the amazing things found in it, the horrible things found in it, the charting of its interior and how the Orders of the Divine had begun its spiritual cleansing.

It was time for humans of Cyrodiil to face their past of horrific slavery and to discover some surprises. For within the ArchDome Cylinder slaves had been treated very well compared to in other places. They had been given more freedom, had been trained, had been paid allowances, had earned semislavedom and demislavedom or even freedom within the Cylinder. Under the rule of somebody called the ZeroLord life was still hard but heavenly compared to that of most slaves in the Ayleid United Kingdoms. The Ayleid there were moderates of a kind who had no qualm about mixing with freer slaves or even former slaves. If the Ayleid had treated all of their slaves like that then perhaps there would have been no bloody, destructive, revolt but a more peaceful reform process to end slavery.

Then conditions began to turn bad. The great research development projects taking place in the ArchDome were mostly going well but some, including the core project, began to go wrong. None of the awakened had been involved enough with those 'Zero Projects' to know anything much about them, especially the 'Zero Core Project'. They just knew that the ArchDome Cylinder slowly, steadily, changed from being a hard place to live in to a horrific place to survive in.

It was the ZeroLord, who was often called 'LordZero', who tried to 'save' people by putting them into cylinder-capsules in secured domechambers. Why not let them leave the ArchDome? Because all were infected-infested with a terrible cursed thing that had been turning people into monsters of different kinds; that is sociopath killers who looked much like everybody else, obviously distorted humanoids or even monstrous shapeforms no longer recognizable as anything like their former selves. Yet the awakened had only limited knowledge, experience, of such and other threats because they had been in the most secure part of the ArchDome Cylinder. They had no idea of what had happened after they had gone into deep sleep except some who had experienced strange 'removed' nightmares.

The AllDivine blessing had removed all traces of the infection-infestation from the awakened. They were free to go up to Kvatch and they were taken up there to begin new lives as Imperial Citizens.

0063(0010)0002: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: ARCHDOME SURPRISES!

Citizenship was granted automatically because of the AllDivine's blessing of the newcomers. The thousand of them, adults and children, found themselves in a totally new land where a great deal had changed. The Dwemer faced the vanishing of their people, the Ayleid the vanishing of their kingdoms in Cyrodiil, the slaves the end of their slavery and so much more. They all faced an Empire that had existed for many centuries though not always in the same form.

Jadekin found herself being an advocate for the awakened, protecting their rights as much as possible while investigating them carefully, while Jadestone ran further operations in the ArchDome. Part of this was bringing up to the surface some Dwemer and Ayleid devices that the newly awakened Ayleid and Dwemer had good practical, and theoretical, knowledge of. It was not long before the first floaterdisks were functioning in public. In future the upper levels of the ArchDome Cylinder would become workshops, storage spaces and storage depots to do with such mechanisms.

As Jadestone made his way through depths of the Cylinder, with his JadeKnights and an entourage of Imperials, he became more certain that there was more to be found there than was yet to be discovered. The upper most levels of the ArchDome Cylinder were bleak but lacked the troubling 'feel' of lower levels. The JadeThirteen had already recommended that the upper twenty levels be sealed off by locking up armored doors, gates, shutters and grates that were there apparently for good reason. Below the 20th level the actual Cylinder looked different and was differently laid out than it was above yet the differences were not stark ones.

The pyramid-arm machine was at the 23rd Level, three below the now sealed off upper level. The large storage areas full of Dwemer, Ayleid, and other tech stuff had mostly been found from the 21st Level down to the 30th Level. Much else had been found there also along with workshops, living quarters and much else of the kind.

Another change took place after the, now, sealed off zone between the 30th Level and 31st Level. Nobody had actually lived below that point except a very few elites and elite individuals such as LordZero of the ZeroLords. Workers, guards, specialists, would all commute to and from work down in the depths or do much of their work about Level 31.

All the Zero Projects were primarily based down below the 40th Level but from Level 31, to Level 40, were many special service support facilities, depots, workshops, factories, administration sites, work stations for Dwemer robotic mechanisms, armories and much else. It was at that level that strong proof was found that there were a relatively large amount of heavily armed-armored soldiers, and other safeguards, for the size of the ArchDome population.

Jadestone stood in a great chamber, a half cylinder with a shallow dome ceiling, and looked out over the remains of an ancient battleground. The battle had been an amazingly violent one with no mercy asked for or given. Dwemer power armored soldiers had died there along with others using Ayleid armed-armored floaterdisks or wheeled mechanisms. Machines were smashed including robotic centurions, spiders and sentinels. They had been fighting strangely distorted creatures, often melded insanely with twisted machinery and metallic parts to form crude weapons and armor. The enemy had often melded with Dwemer, Ayleid and other technologies. Yet the 'enemy' seemed to have been former comrades of those they were fighting.

Jadestone cursed softly and then he spoke. “Zombinoids and zombinors were at war here with others. Zombinoids and zombinors melded with weapons and armor in a very cumbersome and ugly fashion. Glimmervists were not here, not out in the open, for they are more vulnerable in that state.”

0064(0010)0003: LUCKYTHIRTEEN: ARCHDOME SURPRISES!

They were at the 44th Level. The battle had gone beyond that chamber but that was the area of the most savage fighting. The group spread out but too too much. They searched carefully for clues until one of the JadeKnights found a cursed Amulet of Kings. It was Jadestone who picked it up, briefly gave it a closer examination and then put into a special kind of pouch.

They had gone down, and up, through the ArchDome Cylinder a couple of times but its sheer size, and complexity, made it hard to truly explore and chart. It was a place where secret spaces could easily be hidden deliberately or spaces be missed by accident. Then, at the 101th Level were found thirteen false Waygates. It had been assumed, at the discovery of those 'gates' that beyond them were to be found the major projects and other sites of importance but perhaps the truth was not so simple or straight forward.

What had MythicDawners been doing down there, not so far back in time, and was it linked somehow with the Pavelino Brown expedition and its goals?

The big power door was open and through it had come a MythicDawner group. They had created an outpost close to the power door and the ancient tunnel that it led to. Perhaps they thought it might give them a quick escape route; in that case they thought wrong. Not much remained of the MythicDawn Followers except some scattered bits of bodies, some spilled equipment and supplies.

Jadestone found the journal that spoke in code, that he easily decoded, of the mission's search for a list of artifacts including the Amulet of Kings. Yet the instructions were careful to state that there were thirteen cursed versions of the Amulet of Kings and one that was genuine a gift and not a curse. The Amulet of Kings was the only artifact that the MythicDawners had been seeking that the other expedition had also been searching for. That expedition was also seeking artifacts known as the Trove of Kings, which seemed to be a set of linked artifacts, the HizaSoulDevices, the ZeroKeys, the MagiLamp and the MagickaMakers. The journal also warned there were competitors searching for the uncursed Amulet of Kings but did not name, or number, them.

After taking all that was useful, Jadestone and the JadeKnights continued searching. Mostly they found bare chambers or chambers partly filled with junk. They found scorch marks, dented parts of walls and other signs of very nasty fighting having taken place.

Then they found a big armored door leading to Zero Project Effective Duplication Energizer One. Soft humming, thrumming noises came through the door that gave the idea of many big powerful machines functioning. Yet when the door was opened there was a small metallic chamber with a small machine making the fake noises that they had been hearing earlier. They found more fake projects, each being no more than a big armored power door, a small metallic chamber and a small machine making false noises of many bigger mechanisms in action.

They found some big empty chambers partly full of damaged Dwemer, and Ayleid, style devices along with lots of junk.

Jadestone got to the false Waygates, that he had assumed were working fake copies, checked more carefully only to find that they were unworkable fake dummies. The only thing they did was to look like Waygate copies. They would never activate, would never send people or things anywhere or receive them. It was all a big fraud and yet masses of resources had gone down into the ArchDome Cylinder, had vanished, so where had they gone? Also why create such a huge and elaborate fakery? Was it a decoy to lead away from real secrets?
