VegardPompey
In yesterday's Extra Punctuation article, Yahtzee bemoaned the lack of accented voice sets for XCOM and actually offered to do something about it. I'm serious about this. If anyone knows anything about modding, let me know how one goes about replacing sound files in the game and I'll record a voice pack. I'll record three or four covering several regions of the UK if you want. Because I like doing that sort of thing. I did my own audiobook, didn't I? And I've done a handful of VO gigs just for the fun of it. I was "The Professor" for an educational game a year or two back (uncredited), so honestly, it'd be my pleasure. And this goes for Worms Armageddon, too. Mainly I'd like to voice an X-Com soldier from Yorkshire. Dashing to cover with a hearty "Back in a bit, put t'kettle on". Somebody needs to make this happen. Sadly I don't know the first thing about modding XCOM.
Wulf2k
Did they even put in a link between nationality and voice files? I think it would be more than replacing some files, you'd have to code in an extra check for nationality before they speak. Not impossible, but an order of magnitude harder than just replacing files. FlyingHigh10000000
That could provide a whole new form of interesting backstories for characters. An Israeli with an English accent? Why not?
Deleted2725050User
I think this is a great idea, If it were possible to do I'd email the guy myself and ask for the voice packs. The problem is that right now it would be like trying to replace meshes but without gildor's tool. Until somebody figures out how to modify existing .upk files beyond just scripts it's not possible. At this point theres no way to even extract existing voice files out of the .upks, let alone put them back in. Did they even put in a link between nationality and voice files? You're right, there's no check for nationality in the voice .upks. The way the sound files are organized, from the looks of it the easiest thing to do would be to put Yahtzee's files in Malevoice1 or whichever and then assign that voice to your british troops in-game.
