Regarding Yagho being banned.

I would like to discuss the site's decision to ban user Yagho.

A few months back, Yagho posted an image titled "The Fall Of Man" depicting an Adam and Eve inspired scene. The screenshot was judged inappropriate for the imageshare and thus removed. Last month Yagho uploaded a heavily edited version of the same image, which caused his account to be banned and his images removed today.

This is the text of the announcement:

Yagho banned.

Violation of site regulations: Nudity in the imageshare.

Again, after all the arguing and complaining you did after the removal of your "Adam and Eve" image, and even being told by the site's owner that it was unacceptable for the general imageshare - you reuploaded it again, and linked it to every other image you uploaded.

You had your chance. You account is banned and your images have been removed from the site.

Now, in my opinion, this statement is imprecise:

1. The image was not simply re-uploaded. It was heavily censored by its own creator, so as not to offend anyone's sensibilities.

2. Dark0ne never publicly expressed an opinion on this new version of the image.

So, I would really like to know the motivation for this decision. I'm well aware that the site isn't in any way obliged to do so, but the fact that Yagho was not given a warning regarding the imminent ban is also rather puzzling.

I'm trying hard not to get into the discussion of the image's intrinsic value (which I find considerable), the incredible craftmanship involved or its popularity (the first version got more than a hundred endorsements), but I'd like to point out that not in any way it was a vulgar or provocative scene. I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around this situation.

A request for moderators and administrators: I know that a lot of people would like to express their opinion on the matter, so I'd be grateful if you kept this thread open long enough for them to intervene (at least a few days). Also, I'd like to ask permission to link to the images in question from an external site, so we all know what we're talking about.

This again?

There really isn't anything to discuss. He got banned, if he deems his ban as being incorrect, he only needs to make an unban appeal and explain the situation. Such issues regarding someone being banned and moderator actions should be done in private, directly to Dark0ne or another moderator anyway. Last time this was discussed, it turned into a popularity contest, with people believing his image should have been put back simply because it was popular, even though it broke the rules.

image link - image taken before page deletion on one of his other shots, this same style of arrangement was featured on many of his later images...

The version he used on the "compilation" section (like the one above) was featured on many of his other images and was NOT the censored version, it was the original uncensored one - which in itself is a violation - and he was told not to reupload the image at all.

So the ban is about the thumbnail?

OK. You're technically right. But still it's a 12x20 picture that was still hosted on this very site, not exactly on-your-face-nudity and it linked to a very different image. The original one was not reuploaded.

Under the circumstances I hope you'll consider an unban appeal, if he decides to do so.

His upload of the "censored" version (semi-transparent boxouts do not count by the way, we do not accept characters or NPC's using their hands as covering either) was a violation as well - as he was told directly not to upload that image in any form.

There is no "technically" about this, and I'm not going to let this turn into another topic like the one from the first time. If he wants to be a part of this site - he obeys the rules here. That is the end of it.

Ok, it seems my link to that first discussion doesn't work anymore, so I can't argue on whether he was told to not upload any version of the image. I don't remember it though.

Checking the affirmation regarding boxouts and hands. Not that I don't believe you of course, only wanted to see how clear the regulations are. Could someone point me to that part?

So does this mean he will be unbanned under the condition he won't upload that picture again? (altough I'm having a hard time understanding what was so inapropriate about the censored image, except the hidious bars - but oh well, I will just have to live with that).

There’s an adult-only content filter (that some have just taken to mean “nude content” filter) but adult-only content is more than just nudity. It’s excessive gore, it’s risque comic-strips, it’s pictures of characters wearing the skimpiest outfits possible without breaking the rules. It’s basically everything you wouldn’t want to have your boss catching you looking through at work.

Does this help?

NO NUDITY ALLOWED

Do not post any images of nudity including breasts, genitalia, buttocks or characters that are wearing so little that they might as well be naked (like 1 pixel wide thongs that cover nothing up).

If you do not heed this warning it is very likely you will be banned.

That is right from the image upload section

The fact re uploaded the image after being told not to, and then decided to use to the uncensored version as a thumbnail, means no he will not just be unbanned.

It was not in that discussion - it was directly to him via private message at the time. The topic was removed from public view as it was deemed to have become nothing but an excuse to raise trouble and nitpick at the site regulations. He was well aware that image should not have been reuploaded, especially after that very discussion was held.

This was reached amongst the staff after a spate of images featuring characters in said poses and/or boxedouts - it was deemed an extension of the following (in bold) and that the boxouts were a "cheap" way of getting around the very rules on nudity.

We have an imageshare section for this sort of content - the supporters section - if you do not have access to that section, then there are some types of image and content you just do not post. Simple. This entire matter could have been avoided from the beginning.

There are various users around the site that can confirm this ruling as they have such images removed already.

No. Not after this.
