remotecontrol
I tried it and had glitches, like dips in the ground being covered in an illusion blank-flat surface that disappears when I walk under it ... same underwater too. I dunno, is there something I'm doing wrong? It says it's supposed to give a FPS boost and get rid of alot of stutters n stuff. Does it work for you guys/gals? Does using it with overhauls affect it's performance? ...any recommendations?
Khet
While I don't use Streamline myself (I've been too lazy to download it) from my understanding it creates more problems that it solves when you first start using it, but after a while things start to switch and it smooths things out and improves performance. But, that's just from what I've heard. Like I said I haven't downloaded it yet, despite the fact that I keep telling myself I will.
remotecontrol
well, this time it hasn't been that bad, I just installed it again... the stuttering isnt as bad as it was the first few minutes playing... I was thinking to myself "it's like it takes time to adjust to your game" ...then you said that and is confirming my suspicion. ...beside the fact that it streamsaves every time I kill something, it's not bad right right now... hopefully gets better. I'll maybe figure out how to tweak it around a bit... maybe make it not streamsave every 5-10 seconds... ...or at least erase the last save before it makes a new one, lol I went to save and found a bunch of "streamsaves"... had to erase 'em. Khet
Dunno what to tell you about the saving, but I'm sure there's a way to change the frequency. Actually, since I'm thinking about it I might as well pick it up right now. I've been saying I would for the past two weeks now and I just haven't gotten around to it, haha. If I find anything in the options or whatever for it before you do, I'll let ya know.
Khet
Took a look through the README and came across this little bit of info for you. Looks like you gotta change some of the settings in the sl.ini but this is exactly what you're looking for I think. [streamsave Settings]=================================================================== The SaveTimer controls how often (in real time) Streamsave willattempt to automatically perform a savegame to your disk. NumSaveSlots is how large the total number of Streamsaved gamescan reach, up to a maximum of 60. When that limit is reachedin-game by Streamsave, it will start over again at 1, writingover those old Streamsaved games. DuringCombat, WhileYielding, DangerousArea all define whether ornot Streamsave is allowed to save when the player is in thosesituations. Normally you would not want these happening, but theycan be toggled on if needed. AllowTresspass, AllowSwimming, AllowSneaking, AllowWeapon are allsimilar to the last bunch, telling Streamsave that it isn't okayto save when the player is in those conditions. They can eachbe enabled if needed. For example, by toggling "AllowWeapon"to 1, you are telling Streamsave that it can perform a savegamewhen the player has his/her weapon out. AfterCombat is a special setting that asks Streamsave to do asavegame after it senses combat ends and the player is stillalive. This can be very handy in avoiding having to re-do anentire area that you just fought your way through, only to dieor crash at the end. InteriorOnly, WhenIdleOnly are special in that they will limitwhere Streamsave is allowed to do savegames. The first means"only do a save when the player is indoors". The second means"only do a save when the player has stopped moving", andusually takes a few seconds even after the SaveTimer has ended. AfterZone tells Streamsave to do an immediate savegame afteryou fast travel or go through a portal/door. AfterWaitSleep tells Streamswave to do an immediate savegameafter you finish sleeping or waiting for a period of time. PlaySoundOnSave will give an audible sound that meansStreamsave successfully completed a savegame. GagAutoSaves will tell Streamsave not to put a message on thescreen about having saved a game for you. By enabling SaveReminders, you effectively turn the savegamesystem into a reminder-to-save system. Streamsave will nolonger do the saves for you, it will instead pop up a messageon the screen reminding you to do it yourself. UseLiteReminders is another form of SaveReminders, this timewithout a message box in the middle of the screen. LiteReminders instead put a message in the upper-left area ofthe screen for 2 seconds as a polite and non-intrusive way ofreminding you it is time to save your game. SecureAutoSaves should only be used when you feel like you aregetting corrupt savegames all the time. It reduces the list ofsaves to one (1), and attempts to do a savegame while amessagebox is displayed. Note that this feature is experimentaland not suggested for most players. LowHealth tells Streamsave it is okay to do a savegame when theplayer's health is very low (not usually advisable).LowHealthThreshold determins just how low your health is allowedto get, and still perform a save. For example, if you turn onLowHealth saves, and set the threshold at 15%, Streamsave wouldperform saves only if the player's health remains at or above 15%. SaveBeforeFastQuit is a menu-related item. Using the SL MainMenu you can tell the game to quit to the desktop immediately. This feature tells Streamsave that you want to do a savegame justbefore you drop to the desktop, when using fast quit. PurgeBeforeSave tells Streamsave to clean Oblivion's memorybefore doing a savegame, which can sometimes lead to a more stablegame and less corrupt save game files. If you get problems withthis turned on, you can try turning it off (0) to see if it hasan effect. Edit: Kept looking through the sl.ini file and I found this line: set SLv.AfterCombat to 1 ; Force a save after each combat ends? Change it to 0 and it won't save after a fight. nosisab
see... when I got the download I just got two things... the exe/installer thing and the patch. I didnt see a readme file, I assumed it was install and go, lol... thankyou very much.If only for the saving capacities, it would be enough to place streamline as a must have. The memory purging too is a good thing though not giving it so much freedom doing it may help. As the number of save slots I think 6 is more than enough, and normally I change the streamline quicksave to the F5 key and the vanilla one elsewhere. If you think it being too much aggressive at changing the behavior and details, you can limit it's range or disable the features at all. Some of the stuttering complained are because of the saving and/or purging, mainly this last one and should be restricted or even avoided, if is an issue. Streamline is a very complex support utility and everyone is advised to read it's extensive documentation with care. I have been using the 3.1 beta for a long time without complaints. I fear the author may have lost interest because the negative comments from careless people, since it is for long time in that beta stage. Although intended to help at the defaults settings, this is something that can't be take for sure thing. Several factors may harm more than help using the defaults in certain rigs. Edit, PS: You can try in game settings hitting ctrl + home keys (which will open a menu) but to have the changes granted directly editing the sl.ini file is a must (streamline shall never be attempted to be controled from the oblivion.ini). As aways, backups of the Oblivion.ini and the own streamline ini is a good measure. Last but not the least. Mods that changes the Oblivion.ini may harm the streamline settings, or the other way around, streamline changing the mod settings. This just ratifies reading the documentation of mods, mainly the ones that changes such things is AWAYS a must do.
