sendo75
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39j5v8jlndM Amazing cinematics as expected from Square Enix. Too epic I had to share with fellow fans of the series! Summary:The trailer portrays the end of a dark era with the descent of the world moon Dalamud, an event brought about by the Garlean Empire with unclear intentions. The Eorzean Alliance along with the heroes are battling at the site of the impact in an attempt to accomplish a grand ritual of summoning the 12 Divines to stop the meteor. Dalamud eventually reveals an imprisoned elder Primal Bahamut along with his wrath unleashed. The heroes were teleported to a rift of time and space by the noble Archon Louisoix in the last scenes to save hope for the future. This will set the stage for the game reboot when the heroes emerges from the rift to face what is left of the world after the cataclysmic event. More Spoilers and Details here. Not sure about the game reboot as its only in the Alpha stages. They do seem committed to salvage this MMO. Time will tell. landrot
Looks pretty awesome. But this is an overhaul of the original game, right?
Vagrant0
You can't judge anything by Cinematics. They should just make movies.
Vindekarr
Considering how abysmal the last few FF games have been I don't trust Squenix anymore.
sendo75
Looks pretty awesome. But this is an overhaul of the original game, right?Yes it is an overhaul and its still in the alpha stages. And I give them credits for committing to an overhaul rather than abandoning it completely. You can't judge anything by Cinematics. They should just make movies. They do make awesome cinematics and is what I mainly wanted to share here. Considering how abysmal the last few FF games have been I don't trust Squenix anymore.Don't need to trust anything, just wait for reviews to see how it turns out. =) Speculations on the reboot is premature at this stage. Jiggalopuff
Considering how abysmal the last few FF games have been I don't trust Squenix anymore.IMHO, The FF series peaked around X. As for XII and XIII, I didn't like the gameplay or the storylines. Square was almost as bad as Sega when it came to having something good, then trashing it. Vagrant0
IMHO, The FF series peaked around X. As for XII and XIII, I didn't like the gameplay or the storylines. Square was almost as bad as Sega when it came to having something good, then trashing it.I think one part of what killed it was them trying to make games, while still working on an MMO. Another part was that they tried too hard to keep reinventing the core and combat systems by bringing in one new gimmick after another. Having the majority of the storylines based around "Angsty teenage character has to save the world" probably didn't help, especially those cases where the character pretty much whines about it every step of the way. But really, most of it probably came from the fact that most of those who grew up with the series stopped being primarily console players at around the PS2/PS3 point due a multitude of reasons. The high cost of buying all the extra hardware, services just to play XI was one of the factors for me personally. Since XII and XIII were PS3 titles and didn't review particularly well, I couldn't be bothered to shell out another $500 for a system that I didn't have, and probably wouldn't play too often. JimboUK
Those looking for a decent FF type game should have a look at Lost Odyssey (X360), it was produced by the creator of the FF series. No sulky teens, the children are treated as children rather than half naked objects for the adults to hit on, the characters grow over time and the acting is very good as is the story. Vagrant0
No sulky teens, the children are treated as children rather than half naked objects for the adults to hit on, the characters grow over time and the acting is very good as is the story.Actually, the problem isn't even that really. Stories where some teenager gets pulled from the safety of the world they knew to face unbeatable odds and overcome them is pretty much following the Path of the Hero completely, while being an allegory the trials of moving from the world of children to the world of adults. The problem is that this seems to be the only story they can seem to do right in recent years (FF7, FF8, FFX), meanwhile their attempts to play with the formula, but stick to cliched teenage characters have not worked well (FFX-2, FFXII, FFXIII). It's like they completely forgot all about how well the stories of FF4, 5, and 6 actually worked while being virtually devoid of any younger characters and diverging from a strict Path of the Hero model. Meanwhile their releases for the DS (The World Ends With You, Tactics Advance, even those with the Final Fantasy name) tend to have much more better writing/planning/execution. Almost tempted to think that Square might be better off trying to go back to it's roots, rather than pushing for games that play like movies. JimboUK
It's the characters that are the biggest problem, it's not so much their age but their personalities, nobody likes sulky kids or adults and FF specialises in them. You're not going to enjoy a game where you detest the character you're playing as, Star Ocean 4 was a great example of that.
