Help with getting started with modding

Hey guys,

I have been trying to do some research into modding but haven't been able to come up with much. I have learned that some games provide SDKs but these are not available for all games (or so I think). Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to what I would need to start looking into modding as a hobby? If there are people with knowledge of modding games like Code Vein or Resident Evil 2 Remake, that would be great. Thanks in advance everyone.

Please note that this forum is for feedback about the Nexus site itself.

Also, I would like to point out that when people talk about "modding", they may be referring to a couple of different things:

-- Installing and using mods developed by others, and/or

-- Creating your own mods.

Whichever you're looking to do, I would suggest the following:

-- Choose a specific game you're interested in "modding", and visit the forums for that particular game. Each game is very different in how it may be modded, and the types of mods available for it.

-- Take a look at the mods already available for your game of interest.

-- Visit the forums associated with your game of interest and start reading. You will often find the information you seek already exists in threads/posts there.

-- Post your questions in the forum specific to the mod and/or game of interest.

Enjoy!

Heyas Sunreaver! Pasquale has passed along some really great tips.

I just wanted to add to what they've said, by mentioning that many of the specific game topics also have stickied threads in them with links to tutorials, needed tools, sometimes definitions, etc etc etc.

The easiest way (for me at least) to find the forums for the games that I'm interested in, is to go to the nexus start page. https://www.nexusmods.com

There, you will see icons for all the games that the nexus supports. Click on the thumbnail for a game that interests you. Just for my example, I'm clicking on the thumbnail for fallout 4, which takes me to this page- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4

Now along the very top of that page, you'll see a row of several drop menus. (They're not very well highlighted, but look for the downward arrow V next to the text. Click on the arrow next to the drop down for Community. After that, you will see a link for Forums. If you click that link, that will take you to the boards specifically for that game.

[Edit] Here's a screenshot to help out. It's a thumbnail, so click on the pic to see the full size. The arrows show where to click, when you're in the site for the game f your choice.

Modding, as in creating mods, can be a learning experience. Especially with some of the games. But, if you hang with it, it also has it's own rewards.

Good luck in your endeavors!

Thanks guys, I'll look into the specific forums for help. Sorry for putting this in the wrong place. Hopefully I can contribute to this community by adding a few cool mods in the near future.

I've looked into the Resident Evil 2 Forum and it's completely dead. There is an active post seeking advice with modelling and texture and there are 0 replies. I'll keep looking elsewhere.

Just because a forum is "dead" (doesn't have any recent replies) doesn't mean it's completely useless.

I took a look at some of the older posts, and came across this, which appears to have some useful information and links. There may be more there.

Learning how to mod often requires a lot of digging around, experimentation, and patience. Step-by-step spoon-feedings (tutorials) are great when you can find them, but may be a little on the rare side.

Anyway - good luck.
