NexusComa Posted January 19, 2020 Share Posted January 19, 2020 That has happen to me too with the "had to go back thing" ... Try to just start a clean slate. Back up what you have then remove it all and do one of them file checks from steam.After it rebuilds your Skyrim files you can then move forward to figure out where your error /errors are. Can't be sure what you are doing till you know you have a clean Skyrim that don't crashor in this case the editor. Also working with land edits in Skyrim is the best way to kill your game. I know cuz I've done it. Truth is the navmesh is a mess stock. It most likely is a mesh conflict.Maybe not a navmesh but still. I've ran into nifs that are just bad. They must have been edited wrong. I've also seen it where just one messed up .nif can crash you out.One good trick is to start up the log. Then you can see just where the error is that made you crash. (I'm not sure if there is an editor log)Here is my editor int files. I opened the original esp this morning... the one that was crashing on save. I touched nothing, I'd found nothing in SSeedit. Save... computing navmeshes... Done! It's not the first time I've posted on the wrong forum, either... Doh! I did have a PC issue this morning where it wouldn't start windows.I went into the Bios to start it. CK saved after that. I wonder if it's related. It beats me totally why the kit won't save the esp one day but will the next. If it was somehow corrupted yesterday, it's corrupted today, too. (NOTE: Always write notes about where you make changes to your computer important settings so you can easily return them to their Default and functional settings if you don't know what you're doing and get carried away playing in the places you are yet to have educated yourself well enough to play in.) Turning off Apps that do nothing but hang around warming themselves on your CPU heat and Eating up RAM. Freeing up the Paging File when it is full, Virtual Memory's Maximum is reached because it is lower than the Amount allowable due to today's larger amounts of RAM computers have. Your Paging file may be getting full and not deleted at a point while all your other Apps are not in use and stuff is being Archived you don't need Archived as well, as leaving the Paging file from yesterday and yester-year huge. The virtual drive setting in your Advanced system settings may be set to what Windows OS/Linux OS determines is adequate but less than your system settings and RAM balance should allow. You need to know how much your computer can allow. Then set it up manually, and also free up a lot of bulky useless text. Another culprit at the times of a CTD is a somewhat familiar bit of software we all know a little about, but do not think about that it may be calling the OS's home server asking if it has any Updates to be downloaded. CPU threads might not all be set to be useful. I have seen where 2 were on a Quadcore where 8 are available on the CPU, just because default setting in Windows 7 did not recognize the Quadcore revolution. I looked into the System Settings last night anf found the Windows 10 set the least amount of RAM and the Most allowed amount of RAM as if it was an old 2 GB RAM motherboard. I only have a paltry 16 GB of RAM, but the System Settings in the Advanced settings didn't make use of any more RAM then it did for Windows 7 and 2 GB RAM with a Duo Core CPU. I found out that all 8 CPU threads could be set to be activated for different Apps to use. Apps are fickle when they are not given full permission due to other controlling factors that do not recognize their full software capabilities. Thus we have to learn the configuration settings in our ini's. If you haven't already; check your Advanced system settings to see how much RAM is allotted by your System Settings. On the low end 2% of your RAMs capacity is best. On the high end you can determine a max for your computers needs. Also get the switch to empty the Paging File at the end of your computers On time changed to On. That is change the 0 to 1 using your Registry Editor, so when your day is done the Paging File will be deleted and refreshed for the new day. Then the no longer required Paging File information; that is supposed to have been used for other reasons and often just sits simmering in disbelief that it did not even get forwarded to Microsoft for the Paging File's purpose. I've even tried to send the data collected to Microsoft manually, via their own tool function, and been told that some problem occurred and the server was not available or something like that. I hadn't realised that Windows would restrict my own 16GB of RAM! The sneaky git! I'll certainly switch that 'Paging File' setting, as you suggested also. I have the usual weekly defrag set up and I regurlarly clean up my drives, but those settings you mention, I was not even aware of. It's starting to fit the evidence. My esp is big. The others I tried (successfully) saving were way smaller in comparison. After I had an issue starting windows, this morning, I cleared out the dross files and checked the fragmentation, but that was 0% on all drives. I'm guessing (and I really am guessing, I'm no wizard with stuff like this) that booting the system afresh from the BIOS, cleared out the stuff that was adversely affecting CK, so my esp was then good to go. That would tally with it being unable to save yesterday, but fine this morning. You live and learn, as they say, as long as you have good tutors and listen to their advice! I've just had another thought. If I raise the priority of CK, it may help, too, but I'm guessing I won't need to bother with that once I've sorted out those settings you mention. Next step. I'm building a new PC! AMD Ryzen7 3700x. I'll stick with my 6GB 1060 GPU for now and upgrade to min 32 GB DDR4 RAM. Maybe that is getting large? I've got esp files 4 MB and above. I took a look at my PC set-up, with your recommendations in mind. Unfortunately, since I have Windows 7 Home Premium, I don't have secpol.msc, so I can't see a way to empty the page file. As it turns out, when I looked at the settings for page files, I had 'None' for my E:/Drive where CK is. I added a 'Managed' page file to the drive. So far, the esp is still saving fine. BTW, the info you're giving is very much appreciated. Did you ever find the limit that CK could handle for an esp before needing two? That would be priceless info. I just realized. I recall now that the crashing was after I installed a lot of furnishing and a sorting script. That sorting script worked fine until I added some new jar nifs and textures to sort ingredients and potions. Now that I am rested and thought back to then, I realize I lost the files before being able to save it not because of it's size, but because of the machines floppy disks capacity. Which I was saving everything on since hard drives I acquired from other used computers tended to get burned out after a lot of use. My knowledge of proper combinations of Motherboards and plug in cards: video cards, RAM, and peripherals, such as, Daughter boards was an adventure intriguing as seeking a lost city of gold. The devices to save files were 3 and 1/2 inch floppy disks. I recall I saved up to 600 MB easily on the 640 MB 3 and 1/2 Inch floppy disk. As long as I did not go over 600 MB when I was saving to one of those disks I never had a problem. If I did go over that I was shown a pop up telling me the disk had 0 used space and asked if I would like to Format it. Which signified it was corrupted so nothing Saved on it was accessible. I think it needed that extra 40 MB of space to keep it's swap file space from causing the floppy disk to become corrupted. I recently purchased a USB floppy disk reader.
