An idea for a quest mod if anyone wants it...

I have a mod downloaded that adds more giants to their camps. I had about 15 chasing me at Secunda's Kiss a while back and this came to mind.

While you approach the West watchtower to battle the first dragon you notice a number of giants in the distance watching intensely. They do not help for they have an important reason for observing. After killing the dragon and becoming dragoborn at the West watchtower, being a deity-like figure, animals and giants no longer attack you, for the Divines have provided the protector of Tamriel (sp?) and it's inhabitants. The giants become aware of your power, and give the dragonborn a large stone tablet engraved in the dragon language.

The stone tablet teaches you a word of power that you do not yet understand. In short, you learn from the Greybeards that the shout has an unknown origin. The shout is used to open a door or portal to the giants version of Sovengard (sp?). You need to discover each shout (each used to access another area in Tamriel) save their king (or Queen and wives/children of the giants) The giant royalty and families are guarded in a deep dungeons or caves and protected by numerous bosses, most of whom are dragons that can only die if their life power is absorbed by the dragonborn; hense, their only chance of rescue. This leader(s) of the giants can only speak to or be saved by a dragonborn, which is why he/she has been in captivity for over 200 years. The shouts were created by the giant king after seeing vision in an elder scroll that the dragonborn must find and read to learn the whole story and locations to save the captives. Parthunax also helps in discovering the meaning of the shouts and where the elder scroll of the evil giant hords rests. Sorry, there is so much more to this and could be a legitimate addon or game within itself.

Also, the after giants' royalty have been saved they align themselves with the side of the dragon born in war of Skyrim and later against the Thalmor, who are flanked by the giant armys. An ally the Thalmor never considered...

Thoughts?

Hm, well for starters, the first time you arrive at the western watchtower and it being in flames (when it wasn't previously) and the guard on the ramp would most likely take to attention first, then anything in the distance. Then the dragon would naturally be the next point of interest for your attention, you kill the dragon and then the guards would take your attention and talk to you about being the dragonborn.

Irileth would then tell you to go report to Balgruuf so that would take your attention next because its kind of an emergency with a looming dragon threat to Whiterun and all. Then the loud booming voice coming from the throat would next take you, you then rush into Whiterun to report to Balgruuf.

So i don't think a giant or two in the distance (when they are a somewhat common sight on the plains) would be much interest to you visually to even begin this quest. And most of the time you know you should keep giants at a respectful distance so you wouldn't naturally walk up to one without thinking to try to kill it naturally if you ever were to. you probably wouldn't even notice them in the first place.

You need to have someone human like an old witch or something to talk to you and grab your attention like say on your way to to go talk to the Greybeards and tell you to go meet the giants and they then give you the stone to learn the shout etc.

you'd probably need to create some new animations for the giants to use to try and rudimentarily communicate with you since they can't speak and if they just throw a stone at you that could be construed as a threatening motion and you'd be forced to attack them. you know RP/"realistically" speaking or whatever?, "Story flow wise" something like that if you catch my meaning.

Huge counter argument.

The Giants will be scripted like the courier or durak during Dawnguard, and immediately after absorbing the Mirmulnir's soul the Giants will force a convolock with the player. (Small bit of added dialogue to irileth and the surviving guards to mention the Giants as the continue this prophecy ramblings)

Completely detracts from your attention grabbers.

At the OP, I personally love this idea and would love to see it come into existence.

Also your points in a giant not being able to speak is 100% incorrect. Scattered throughout Skyrim are Non aggressive and SPEAKING Giants. There are random events that take place on the roads where a farmer and a painter cow are traveling to a giant camo to make the annual offering that get Giants to leave their stock alone. There is a giant outside of a village who has made a deal with the farmers that live there to protect the village. And there is a single solitary female giant in vanilla who is locked in a cage who you can rescue, like many of the wolves, spriggans, and a specific hagraven you rescue to retake a tower, all of which are non aggressive to the player and some of which talk. The Giantess aswell as the giant protecting the village have subtitled and audible dialogue.

Being that these dialogue scenes are vanilla assests this would even work in ps4

In vanilla. I was surprised by this as well. My wife who prefers vanilla over modded (for now because she hasn't gotten the achievements on console) walked into a small village and saw a giant on the path on the way in and was like s#*! there's a Giant in town, it stopped her and started talking. The Giants don't speak very propper but do speak. Second the Giantess is in a cave in the mountains, yes in solstheim, no I cannot remember where. And the random events with farmers painting cows for offerings to Giants, is, well, random. All three events happened in my wife's game in the span of 6 days irl. I do not remember which village, nor do I remember which cave. No this is not modded. And no I'm not BSing. I have 9 years of Skyrim experience. Edited by Syddraf

I remember the Sanguine quest for the rose staff. It's starts as a drinking contest unwittingly with a daedric lord. You have to get the goat back from a giant during the quest. I don't remember a female giant right off but I never completed every little side quest either.

Maybe it was Sam who did the talking. Maybe they used a sign language.

Maybe there's a solitary voiced female giant waiting for you in Skyrim to rescue the giant damsel from her giant distress. A huge maybe.

Anyways, it's not a deal breaker.

I'll let you know later what I think.

There's some work to be done with improving Skyrim Giant Mountain Trail to do this year.

OK, here's my thoughts:

that may surprise you but I don't feel like making it for Dragonborn only.

the quest after which giants ally with your side in civil war - because civil war should be playable without being Dragonborn

other quest content - well, that's because I already have one quest about giants which is tied to main questline specific stage. That is the Skyrim Giant Mountain Trail, which in the end lets you skip Fallen/Season Unending. So, it's a quest content that does not really pays off unless you are at that specific stage of the main quest line. The secret plan for this year is to make it an option for non-Dragonborn players (essentially by shaking up a little the final Alduin fight...). The not-so-secret and obvious would be to make it worthwhile for all players regardless of the main quest stage, by expanding on the content - just not necessarily related to being Dragonborn.

Another reason to scale the idea down is that there is only one pose for Skyrim vanilla giants - when they don't have a weapon equipped, they keep their right hand up as if they had a club leaning over their shoulder.

That said, you might get interested in Mihail mods for giants...
