I dunno, I've being watching all the gameplays and it doesn't seem like a FarCry to me. Besides it's too god damn colourful you know? I'm one of those who liked FarCry2's sepia thing, and if you ask me, Crysis 1 and Warhead generate a better "jungle ambient" than FarCry 3. Maybe you are right, Farcry 1 was indeed ahead of its time, but still, every time I see a Farcry 3 gameplay it seems to me that everything is "overdone", like forced to look like a jungle and it doens't seem natural to me. Anyways, I'm defintely gonna play it evetually, just that I'm not gonna pay the full price for it, and wait a month or two until it's on sale.
