Fallout 3 Construction Set

You know, I have this feeling, from what I have been able to see from mods available and the sneak peeks I took at some ESPS (including Fallout3.) that Bethesda has created a BIG problem for itself...

I get the feeling that MANY aspects of the game could have been MUCH better. Not only textures, but armor, weapons, stats and skills and all.

If we have a CS as powerful as Oblivions or Morrowinds are, We will get to realize that they used the rules for alchemical ingredients from oblivion to create food and all kinds of adaptations to the oblivion engine.

I don't know, but I get the feeling that they are trying to figure out how to give us acess to editing the game without making thenselves look like fools on the process.

Just my 2 cents here..

AND I hope this CS gets out soon. Even without it, modders are doing and amazing work, I can only imagine what we will get once it is out (more reason for beth to be a little frightened about it).

People have already sorted through the fallout BSA's. and its already a known fact that what bethesda did was take their lastest build of the oblivion engine, completely whiped everything, and rebuilt it into fallout. They didnt bother to delete lines of code are within the files that read like "Horses ridden" and "Ingredients Eaten". So you are correct that all they did was implement oblivions code for fallout. On top of that, the perks and stuff are actually spells and what not, just with their different effects.

In other words, bethesda cut ALOT of corners making this game, but that doesnt change the fact that its a good game. And you are probably right that they are cleaning up the construction set to hide those aspects, ontop of making it in general user friendly.

Yeah, I picture in my mind, the folks at Bethesda like

"poo, how can we launch a CSet without then noticing that Dogmeat is the ArenaFan with a different model!"

or

"Damn, how can we hide the fact that ammunition works like magical charges on an item!"

Though it's absolutely a REALLY great game.

Oh, well, besides the ending, wich I didnt like, personally.

Still waiting for the CS..

I don't think anybody enjoyed the ending. What I get from the game overall is a great feeling of "rushed". Even hexediting the files shows TES4 marks all over it, nothing is changed in the actual code. Fallout 3 is just a very advanced Oblivion mod AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

In fact, if they do release the CS, this is good for us because it means all the lessons will have already been learned in Oblivion and we'll get mods up the wazoo and maybe some enterprising individuals would be kind enough to change or improve the ending or to give us alternatives.

That said, despite being a good game, it does feel very rushed with many cut corners and cut features. The game oozes potential but feels so much shorter and smaller than Oblivion. There just isn't much to do at all in it and the plethora of places and NPCs have very little you can do with them in your interactions. Large cities like Megaton and Rivet City only have one quest associated with them and then you basically don't need to go back to them again. There are a lot of individual NPCs with their own stories but they have nothing you can do with them, no quests, nothing. It's all very disappointing that you have this whole world before you that screams out the potential of so many stories (Church of Atom is pointless for example) but they are hollow shells. There are all these details in the text and even loading screens about who really runs Megaton and yet there is no "Power Struggle in Megaton" quest or anything of the sort. It's quite sad along with the great lack of decent equipment and variety. Most players will end up wearing the Armored Vault 101 suit from the beginning through the entire game until they get Riley's Armor or Power Armor. That's sad for this kind of game.

Having played Oblivion, I can't help but be disappointed in how hollow Fallout 3 turns out to be in terms of all the stuff they put on your plate but you discover it's all just smoke and mirrors. It's still a great game, but we need a CS so modders can improve this.

I totally agree with everything but your small number of quests comment. Yeah, the quests aren't nearly as numerous as Oblivion, but there are also a distinct lack of "Go to B, fetch X, return to A" quests on their own. Sure, people have you do things like that, but each one is part of a larger questline, and that, combined with the different ways you can end or complete each quest, leads to what I feel is a lot of replayability.

There are plenty of improvements that can be made, preferably starting with the ending (there shouldn't be one as long as you survive >:( ) but the quests I think are fine.
