brokenergy
Who's playing it? Is it any good?
Vindekarr
It's a masterpiece. Some of the best voice acting I've ever seen in a game, fantastic gameplay, and an air of quality. This game is... well, it's just a little bit special. There's just something... subjectively good about it, that special "extra 1%" that trully amazing games have. I'm a total neophyte at stealth in general, I tend to like to bash down the door, and while you can play this as a (damn good) third-person shooter, I felt compelled to play it "properly" like a real assassin. I found my difficulty niche at the lowest setting, but with the caveat of never being detected or killing a civilian. Incredibly, I've actually been able to hold to that(with a lot of restarting) as you can, with some practice, really become an invisible assassin. It's a tense, nerve-wracking experience, picking your way into a Mansion without firing a single unneccesary bullet or killing any non-target, but the game rewards it comprehensively, and it's very much a viable stratergy for real perfectionist nutters. The most standout feature though is the cutscenes/voicing. The voicing itself, firstly, it's absolutely amazing, it's near-perfect so-far, not just from the main characters, but even from the guards and enemies, who's idle conversations are actually worth listening to as they often contain backstory or extra info you can use to your advantage. There's also a real sense of macabre humor to the game, though it infrequently emerges, that simply means it hits with massive force when it does, such as an early moment where you're creeping along a ledge, and a guard in a window ahead is on the phone to his doctor, being told he doesn't have prostate cancer afterall. The moment before I pulled him out the window to his death at the hands of a 300 foot fall, he said "oh man, this is great! NOTHING to piss on this dayaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhhh........................*THUD*" My only issue is that I've been struggling to make it stable with my hardware-it's been extremely unreliable for me seemingly due to a GPU bug, I keep getting directX related errors, and from the gist I think it may be a physical wiring fault somewhere between my GPU and monitor. EDIT: To summise, if you liked Max Payne 3, you'll love this. Simarly concept: lots of action supplementing an exemplary story. It's like Max Payne 3, but with stealth. Really, really good stealth. Iv000
Vin, did you play the previous ones too? I heard some reviews from people who played the ones before that it's lacking the open levels aspect, the exotic locations and that it's too story driven? I think it was the Angry Joe review who said that the most. So I'd like to know if I loved Blood Money, will I like this one just as much or even more? Vindekarr
Did you really just say TOO story driven? No such thing IMO. I've never played a stealth game before, let alone a Hitman game, but most of the reviews in Australia say it's the best hitman game to date, and I think it's fantastic. Vindekarr
Just finished uninstalling the game. All the content in the world can't really shake off the sense of disapointment I'm left with from this game. I've painstakingly checked-over every system in my PC, uninstalled and re-installed the game, checked STEAM over for what good that did, nothing. I'm on the latest drivers for my entire system, and there's nothing wrong with either the software, or the hardware that I can discern, however, whenever the game attempts to load, it CTD's, making it unplayable. Right now I'm out of options to fix it, and am left with a defective product, and thanks to steam, no recourse to get it replaced. If the problem was on my end, I'd be experiencing issues in other games, and I'm just not. Not in anything. The most system-stressing game I have runs a smooth, flatline at 59 fps(limited due to monitor) with stable power usage and the temperature sufficiently low that I can touch the motherboard with my bare hand. I checked the wiring, no fault there besides a slightly worn microphone input cable(fixed and replaced) the drivers are all up to date, and the disc itself is brand new, for what good that does with a steam game. Nothing else i'm playing on PC at this moment has any sort of incompatibility or technical drama, so it can only be steam, or the game itself, and neither of those are within my power to fix. I've uninstalled it to clear space, hopefully one day It'll run properly. Until then, it's shelved. Edited November 22, 2012 by Vindekarr

I was literally getting ready to pick this one up tomorrow on Steam but not anymore. Sad to see Square Enix fail on optimizing the technical aspect of the PC version, I hope they release some kind of patch or something that fixes these crashes and slowdowns. I was reading on some other message boards and a lot of people have been noticing the crashes to desktop and drastic fps slowdown and drops. If not oh well, I can wait.
Vindekarr
Don't not get it because of my issues guys. Chances are it'll work fine for you, and if it does, it's absolutely worth it. Any hitman fan would love this game, while it was working, I sure did and I'm not even a Hitman fan. That's why I'm sad it's busted lol, I wanna finish it. I feel like I was eating a really tastey sandwich and someone nicked it. Edited November 22, 2012 by Vindekarr
Vindekarr
OK! I just finished testing it and it works 100% Apparently the problem was the local files didn't install right, so I re-downloaded, STEAM got it right the second time, and boom, the game runs flawlessly.
