Marchiavel
Hi there, I've just began to mod my FNV Ultimate, and I was wondering : has somebod tried to replace the Wasteland map by a bigger one ? Sure, it would be hard work, because all NPC and buildings to replace on the new map. And sure, it wouldn't be compatible any more with any mod, until a patch would be done. But the ratio between the FNV map and the reality is something like 30:1, as there is 50x70 cells. The bigger map that the GECK could stand is 512x512. So a map with a ratio of 4 (1" in the game = 4" in the reality) would be possible ! Or did I miss something ?
Mishaxhi
I don't think you understand just how insane of a job that is. Resize map, fix glaring landscape bugs and tears, fill this map with plants, rocks, shrubs, trees, water, landscape features, add back in vanilla everything on correct scale (would take heavy landscape editing), add enemies and NPCs to new land created, add stuff to the new land in general to make it interesting, navmesh, test, re-do everything, test, re-do everything... I'm not one to kill a dream but damn.
Marchiavel
Hum, I didn't think this was such a big work. Is it really much to do than create a whole new worldmap ?
TrickyVein
It turns out only a fraction of the mojave wasteland is playable. There's no need to expand it by creating *new* land. Go into the heightmap editor and see for yourself. Methinks you have some reading to do :) Edited November 20, 2012 by TrickyVein

Thanks for your wise answers ;)

TrickyVein
The Mojave wasteland is functional more than it is playable. It organizes/collects locations. Between them, there is nothing, and little reward for exploration.

JustinDK
I've spent close to 18 months working on my worldspace, and am now just getting to the navmesh. A person with intimate knowledge of the GECK could do the same in half the time (i.e. the Devs) but when you are learning the ropes while creating it goes slow. I have LOST days of work due to poor saving practices and random GECK crashes, that is another factor. It is not impossible, just requires some serious commitment on the modders part. I considered 'expanding' the existing Mojave, but honestly, it is less work just starting from scratch and creating the world you envision.
