Guest deleted3178556
hi all, first of all it's my first thread on this forum and i wish to thank everyone of the staff for the nexus and forum itself and for all the work of modders, my question is how i should proceed to backup my skyrim with mods and savegames since i'm going to format the computer in order to upgrade to win8,i thought i could first store the savegames both in local (usb drive) and in the steam cloudthen should i backup the game with Steam Backup? i have no idea what would happen with steam backup, is it going to backup the mods aswell or not? if yes when i'll reinstall nexus mod manager will it be able to refresh the list itself after having pointed out the new destination folder? i understand i might have been a little too dispersive in here so if you please would tell me a better way or if this is a clean one. i've installed something like 30+ mods and i don't really think i should reinstall clean and then install every single mod, i fear i might break the savegame and plus my skyrim as of it is right now it's not in a "clean" shape ^^ thanks everyone, please avoid replies like ZOMG BURN WIN8 xDbut please share if you know if there is any compatibility issue with skyrim on win8
SiniVII
If you have an additional HDD, just copy your entire Skyrim folder (with mods) and the folder in "documents\my games\skyrim".You may also want to backup the skyrim folder located in (X:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local" to keep your plugins listed and your load order. If you want to save space, you could try compressing the skyrim folder with WinRar or something of the like. As for online storage, I have no idea... EDIT:I don't know if Win8 has a compatibility issue with skyrim. Sorry. Edited November 21, 2012 by SiniVII
Guest deleted3178556
ok i will try as you point, seems a correct way, and i didn't know about the files in the appdata/local, good.last question, will steam recognize skyrim as an installed game after format and reinstall of steam itself? :D
SiniVII
I'm not sure if you could just throw the skyrim folder into the common folder in steamapps. I "THINK" you could just initiate the skyrim download installation first, while the download is progressing you pause it, then you throw all the files into the skyrim folder created by steam and it should recognize all the files as downloaded and installed. Truth be told I am not sure, sorry.

Jandalss
Hi Torok Have you managed to restore everything correctly after you formatted? I have the same problem now and I really would kill myself if I loose everything(again).I went on the steam page, the one posted by digitaltraker here above, and it seems extremely complicated. Is it?What should I do, in layman' s terms, to fully backup and restore my game after formatting? Thank you
