cosinusoid
thanks thats been really helpfull . ive been drudging through that form since i got FO3 , and its reasuring to know thats where most of the discussion is taking place (sounds obvious , but given that there has been no SDK for fallout i just assumed the discussion would be else where) cheers for all your help there , im off to play the actual game now , altho i kind of dont want to play leaving that poor boy in greyditch alone , its annoying the hell out of me all the political crap games have to deal with now . i heard in an fallout developer interview about a year ago speaking aobut how you would rescue a young guy and then decide to help him find a home OR tag along , but considering how they removed the child death option , that excludes by defalt the idea of having a kid as a companion. cosinusoid
thankyou vashts1985 , this application is beautifull !. it would seam a huge amount of work has been done here , or ported over from other Bethesda games , either way this is great work .considering that modding is pretty much a thankless , time consuming job. however im slightly at a loss as to how .esp files are created ? . would you mind if i picked your brain a bit more. i can see all the detials of what is what in F03eidt , but im at a loss of how to create an .esp file with the data. again thanks for any replys to this , ill say again that ive never touched an Bethesda game before , so sorry for asking things that might be very simplistic and obvious to others. our conversation has cleard a lot of things up for me , that due to the early days of the modding , are not mentioned clearly anywhere. Xorak
I must be a complete n00b, because I still haven't figured it out. I've opened the Fallout3.esm with FOMM, as well as a few plugins. I'd like to modify some items, in such a way as the Better Power Armor mod. It seems like I should be able to change the physical stats in the item record, and the effects in the ENCH record, by copying and pasting the effects I want from other items, and then changing the magnitude..? But, I can't actually seem to change anything. I can delete a record all together, or create a new empty record or sub record, but I don't know how to change anything. Is there something weird going on, or am I totally missing something? I've never worked with this sort of thing before.

SpeedyB64
In Fomm you double click on the value you want to edit for example say you have a weapon you navagate to the weapon entry, click on it stuff apears on the side and bottom areas, if you double click on it it gives you the form id and other settings to edit. Most of the other info and stats can be edited in the bottom window just double click on the value for example the NAMO for weapons and can then hex edit the values. (this is how it works for all entries, there may be errors in my post as I don't have the program open to check) If all else fails double click on stuff until you find something that opens (or go to the FOMM website) if you find the ENCH record double click on the word ENCH and the window should pop up
cosinusoid
a small update for anyone readding this. thanks to the help from vashts1985, and the various good tools already avalible for hacking fallout3 , i have manged to make the changes i wanted. the npcs smoke as jeriko dose , and i made a "wild" version of bryan , in a similar fashion to the mad max 2 movie . wild bryan has all of dogmeats sounds and is a companion.
