Using Default NPC voices for a text to speech program

Recommended Posts

I hope this is the right place to post this. I recently discovered an awesome looking software called "Lyrebird". It's 'Voice Double' feature claims to "Create a digital voice that sounds like you from a small audio sample." I thought it might be really cool to input default Skyrim NPC voice type dialogue into the program, and create new natural sounding dialogue lines for those voice types. If this would even be possible in the programs current state I don't know. What I was most concerned about would be Bethesda's policy on something like this, if any. I'd be putting Skyrim's voice clips into what is essentially a text to speech program, using them to make new dialogue lines with those voices, and porting the new dialogue back into Skyrim for a mod. Also, one of the questions for the application says "Tell us about the voice(s) you want to synthesize, and confirm that you have their permission" I know getting permission from the voice actors themselves is probably out of the question, and assuming I can't, I was wondering if Bethesda's policy might have anything to say about it. I apologize for the complicated nature of this question, if anyone knows anything about this topic, I'd be grateful for any information they can give me.

To be honest, I think this one kinda falls into the area of getting this info directly from the horse's mouth.

http://address001.com/Address-of-Bethesda-Game-Studios-04693 There's a phone number, listed there, but I dunno if it will do you any good.

Normally, I would suggest trying to reach out to them, by contacting them via their support page. However, most of us know, that Bethesda's idea of support runs along the lines of "Copy and paste response, then ignore further interaction".

DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A YES OR NO ANSWER. Bethesda's outlook has been that assets used from one of their games, has been ok, as long as it stays within that game. No cross-game ports. This includes but is not limited to for example Fallout 3 assets to Fallout New Vegas. That's a no no in their (lawyer's) eyes.

Now, however, when we go into artificially recreating recorded voice assets, this can fall into a different category as there are contracts between the voice actors, and the company. This, is why I say that if you want to know for absolutely sure, then you need to contact Bethesda directly.
